  1. Have to give the guy props for developing him self late in his career into a competent teams guy, going from an abysmal blocker to average or a bit better, and for finding another gear as a runner while being able to accelerate much quicker. If he had gotten that kind of development while in college his career as a pro would’ve been very different. I respect the guys tenacity, work ethic, toughness and strength. A lot of guys could use an ounce of what he’s got. He may well be picked up by another team, especially if they try to flip the ratio at rb. Toronto would be a good candidate if they want to go onto adebobye. Or mtl with ste, or bc with jeshrun.
  2. And a roster spot that can be used elsewhere. Especially with feltmate as well. Di who is a rb/wr and kr would be ideal.
  3. 100%. The offence needs what JY has had with hall. Personally, a two team that wraps up qb coach, oc, and pass game co/qc and involves a developmental guy with a more seasoned guy is the best move. I think lapo would be a fine choice if they got the right guy to work with him. Maybe even have Marty Costello be the run game co under lapo and bring in a qb coach as well. That’d help us keep Marty and maybe keep lapo from the empty back, no run in the red zone stuff. I’m not sure if that’s the case, or if he was just forced into a box with a lot of the same kinds of players in his first and third go around here. too much money to be an emergency back up. Coaching officially and playing is probably not gonna fly with the coaching and salary cap or with the pa. He could be in a role like the goat did previously, but I don’t think zach would want that. To sit on the ir and in the room coaching. Usually guys like him need a gap of time to adjust to post playing life before coaching. The other option would be that if we keep zach we let him call the offense like in the khari and older days. I am a fan of letting qbs make some calls and run the hurry up alone. But idk if zach is the right guy for that. It’d probably be all Hail Mary plays lol.
  4. He had a lot of the pieces on offence, the limiting factors were him and nichols. Hes a great offensive mind, and a great coach of players. He gets him self in trouble over thinking play calling trying to win tri level chess matches with people playing checkers. But, I do think he comes back stronger each time he returns to coaching.
  5. Don’t think he’d get Jy, idk if they’d get permission either as they couldn’t offer a clear upgrade job. They’ll likely keep Phillips imo. Externally, none bomber types. I hope not myksimick but could be. Travis Moore doesn’t get a lot of talk but he’s gonna get a look at some point. Ott could make some drastic changes he could be available at a lateral job, as could Condell. But I think Moore as a 2 man oc could work. If jarious Jackson is out in Edmonton, and I think he will be, he could be a target. External ex bombers. Markus Howell could get a look, lapo could come back, khari could be an oc pass game coach or qb coach candidate Internally. I think Marty Costello will be a real contender. He’s had experience as a run game co ordinator and oc at lower levels. He’s a hot commodity as an ol coach and this is our best chance to keep him locked up. Pair him with a good qb coach to be a pass game coordinator and qb coach. Bourgoins could get some consideration, or even as a pass game coach. I wouldn’t be a big fan of that though, I think we need some out side fresh blood in the offence.
  6. I really like bucks chances in bc. They want an offensive leadership change, his time with ringmaiden here, his time in bc previously, plus filling the hc spot will leave it too hard to attract a good oc. Going with an established hc may hurt their ability to retain Phillips. mueller is too green still, I think the next closest pick might be lapo. But bucks good years with zach, and browns development will give him the inside track imo.
  7. I was excited about mbt too. Good taste in talent bad taste in head cases when it comes to QBs lol. Masoli would be interesting to consider in that situation too. We were hot after him a couple times. Brutal to lose Ted and Mac. Losing buck is addition by subtraction. We’ve done an exceptional job of identifying and developing front office guys if we lose one of Ted and Danny we will be fine. Replacing two key front office pieces would be hard. I think we could benefit from another fresh pair of eyes in the front office. Losing ringmaiden was much harder than either Ted or Danny. And I love both of those guys. The more you develop and circulate guys like that around the league and football the better off you are. It allows you to attract much better talent and get them to fit into the coaching cap how ever needed. it’s true. And he earned it too. He’s not a carry along he played great.
  8. He sure won’t. I don’t want a flogging. I want meaningful change. On the roster, it’s management, and at oc. Certainly seems the locker room is more of an issue than any point prior in mos career. I do not believe that the majority of the play feel that way. You think any dl other than maybe Willy and Thomas love him? Half those guys have spent more time in his dog house than on the ar. None of them saw the gc wins. Same with the lbers. I bet the dbs are more loyal to Jy. He’s hands off in the locker room, and lets the cos run their units. Newer guys aren’t gonna have that attachment to him. Even with the attachment vets might have, it hasn’t kept guys here in free agency or brought them back from the nfl. Kongbo Hansen grant Bailey, lawler, stove, darby, desjarlais, couture, hardrick, etc. lots of guys have left that spent a lot of time under mos. We’ve lost more in free agency since 19 than we’ve gained. Players like mos, and most of them like him as much as they do because he doesn’t regulate them. But the weight of that affection is measured in Pennies and milligrams. He and the mafia doesn’t have to say more than they’ve said. Be nice if they admitted the mistakes. But what’s really important is that they do more than they’ve done to fix these issues.
  9. Agree, that’s what I’d do. It’s always a gamble when you bet on a sophomore starting season with the qb. But he’s a guy I’d take the lumps with. I don’t think his down side can be much lower than cfs down side. I don’t dislike cf, I followed him more than most (and still enjoyed the doink endings) but I just don’t think he’s a qb1 you build around.
  10. Probably a great year to need a seasoned qb2
  11. Good points. Maybe edm offers a 2nd this year and a first next year, or maybe some one offers Extra picks contingent starts. Alexander is the better guy to get imo, but he’s a bit more of a project and less known. Hes this years Dru brown.
  12. If he tells teams he won’t report he can take back a good bit. UFL does not have an agreement with the cfl, he could go there. It’ll be interesting to see who would give up the most value for vaj. I think Edmonton would end up leaving the cupboard too bare. If he does go to the elk, will mbt end up back in Toronto? I feel like this off season is going to include a lot of movement at qb that won’t really amount to much.
  13. Dooooo iiiittttttt!!!!!!!!
  14. He wasn’t in and out for injury in 02/03, the went from a 2qb system to Maas the back up. He played 18 games a year for his first 7 seasons. He was open about being happy to back up ray in 02 when he lost the spot, 03, and 05. Then he went back to back up ray in 08, 09, and 10. 108 games played with Ricky ray, 7 starts. He was very open about being content to be qb2.
  15. 100%. If you find any player like that, he’s the first guy to get rid of imo. No matter the rest of the details. That was the biggest thing I didn’t like about maas as a player. His contentment to sit behind ray and be qb2 for life was pathetic.
  16. Willy’s a fa though. 500k is still a pretty good deal. Wonder how that hard money breaks down. Might well include a roster bonus. If it does I bet they trade him before it kicks in. How much did that concert cost too. Could well have been a loss leader
  17. League average isn’t a measuring stick unless you missed the play offs though. You’re also glossing over the fact that the punting/kicking positions have seen the biggest increase in terms of talent of any position in football over that time. Our net average on the cfl site has us middle of the pack at 36.1 You certainly aren’t going to frequently punt your way out of trouble. A lot more teams are using 2 guys who can get back and split the field. The biggest concern I have with the punter is his frequency to punt us into trouble. Maybe not his best year but I don’t think he was a big problem. I do think he’s gonna retire though, and Laroux likely takes over. Sheehan had some brutally slow releases this year sporadically. Like two steps worth of time extra. Leroux? Laroux? Good ass snapper either way.
  18. Castillo did all 3 very well previously. Thing is, the more you punt the less you kick off and kick fgs. The more fgs you kick the less you kick off and punt. Shouldn’t be a problem imo unless you’re some really mediocre team that punts or kicks fgs all the time and have a punter with cardio problems. Thing is, just because you kick it 65 doesn’t mean the return team will get all that in extra yards. It’s an opportunity for both sides. Punting as we do is also a risk. One missed tackle and suddenly that 40 yard net turns into 15-20. Missing one tackle on a long punt isn’t as punishing. If you don’t have guys who can win the race down field at a depth of 50-60, you likely aren’t winning at 40 yards either. I think we have the horses to get down field and get more field position. I also think if we got a better punter we could kick the same depth, but with more hang time and still increase our net punting. Our lead in net punting yards is a testament to the goats ability to craft a system around the pieces we have that works optimally for us. We don’t know if he could do better with a bigger leg. I do believe he could though. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe a couple of those were with the chipped balls yeah? I think Castillo will have a better % next year. I trust that leg.
  19. His 2024 numbers https://3downnation.com/2024/05/07/the-cfls-15-highest-paid-quarterbacks-for-the-2024-season/ 6) Vernon Adams Jr., B.C. Lions (A) Hard money: $403,800 Maximum value: $403,800 The 31-year-old set all-new career-highs this past season and cashed in with a three-year contract extension that included a $200,000 signing bonus. Adams Jr. can earn a $155,000 base salary, a $15,000 training bonus, $13,800 in housing, a $10,000 travel bonus, and $10,000 in non-football-related services to the team. honestly, 400k is a good deal and not having to worry about bonus bloat in the back end is nice. His numbers this year might be a bit different but I imagine not significantly off. I imagine 450k ish likely.
  20. I get that, but I don’t think they acted poorly. Every team knew vaj was available. I think what they did, by being direct and early is for the players in free agency. You aren’t coming to a team with a qb controversy. They are going to gain assets dealing him away. They aren’t going to get less because of announcing their move. But they are showing that the new management is decisive and in control. Qbing in the league is awful right now. You got Alexander as a development guy, maybe mbt as a guy you could win with but who probably can’t carry you to win and vaj. You got edm, cal, maybe ssk, maybe ham, and long shot at tor in the market. With wpg as a sleeper team that might want to move on, or even mtl who might be able to do more moving on from Fajardo. Even with just 3 teams, you got 3 guys. And you aren’t likely to see a Nash equilibrium (since you mentioned game theory) with the 3 teams. I think vaj will drive the market even if one of the other two set the market first.
  21. Yes I’d tell you which one but the mafia would get me 🤪
  22. I honestly don’t know what to expect from us in free agency. I also think buck leaving would create opportunity to see more moves like this as the new oc will have some input. Yeah that’d be ideal. But maybe we can bring in a Canadian to train up under Sergio. I really wish we’d have him punt, he’s a better punter than the aussy.
  23. Yup. Also insulates us moving on from JA for mci. So it doesn’t even end up being that expensive.
  24. I agree to an extent. He shouldn’t be held to the fire in the court of public opinion. The average fan is pretty clueless. I think he should be held accountable. That should come from media, and maybe some of the q n a stuff with season ticket holders at the diner before the year starts. I mean I can’t handle how dumb many of the questions and comments are at the coaches show. I haven’t been able to stomach it for a while. But for the last two years I don’t even listen to the caller free bit because it’s less than fluff.
