  1. Yeah I'd like to think so, but the CFL game has changed in the last 30 years. Not sure that Clements offence would do as well in the modern CFL, although those are my favorite memories from watching the CFL and attending games. I have wondered if Bombers had that 3-4 defence now with West, Battle, Tyrone Jones, Hill, etc. whether they would be able to stop a team like Calgary. For sure, Messam would not be allowed to run wild, but they would probably have problems covering the 5 and 6 receiver formations. Not sure whether a Ty Jones would even get there fast enough to stop a Burris or Glenn from getting the ball off...
  2. Hey, drastic times call for drastic measures. Scorched earth now, all the way, baby. So far, a surgical and less passionate response has not seemed to produce good results. Its time to give this club a radical mastectomy Sounds like you are the type that would be afraid to make changes. Do you have an anal retention problem? I know someone you could see to help with that.
  3. Left em out on purpose. They are not as good as you think they are. Is your opinion based on Walters telling you that they are good? So far Wild and Bass have underwhelmed. Neither of those guys is a James West or Tyrone Jones, both are serviceable, but mediocre. They only look good because they have been playing on really bad teams. Is mediocrity what you are shooting for in the future? If so, you must have enjoyed the past 5 years. With that terrible OLine, Harris will not be putting up the numbers he did with BC and people are going to change their tunes pretty quick. Cam Marshall showed more behind that bad OLine than Harris has so far. People are blinded by the fact he is a hometown kid. I could care less - just put the best player possible on the field. Corney is a raw rookie and yeah I would probably add him to my list of keepers. Keep in mind he is unproven and not really in a position to be starting every down. My list was directed mostly at the regular starters, not the practice roster, backups or special teamers. Too soon to tell with Corney, but this team needs stars that are playing at a high level now, not guys that may be good 4 years down the road.
  4. ... Or he would already be out with a season ending injury after getting creamed countless times per game due to the poor job done by the worst OLine in professional football
  5. Actually, given how passive and useless both the management and players are, I would fully expect them to just sit and collect their pay cheques until the inevitable end. Most of them are next to useless now, or even worse, so it's not like they could do any more damage than what they have so far. The team is already being blown out in every game, so who cares what they think. For example, given Autistic Mikey's "Officer and a Jellybean" mantra where he has only selected players that are outstanding human beings of upright and solid character who kiss babies in public and pick up loose trash, the "high road" for his group would be to help the replacements steal their lunch. Part of why the Bombers are so terrible in my opinion is they have selected players and coaches for moral character, not for sheer ability, nastiness, or aggressiveness. You got a nice bunch of baby kissers who have shown they are not aggressive or nasty enough to win This team needs its butt kicked, and I think a nasty and mean message needs to be sent ASAP. The new mantra for coaches and players should be just win baby... We'll take rejects, problem players, and players who are not good at PR, as long as they perform on the field and kick the cr*p out of every opponent, win or lose. Let them come and steal the lunch of the "Officer and a Jellybean" crowd...
  6. And by that definition Bomber offensive output would have been about 100 yards total in the Montreal game with maybe 1 first down, and about 130 yards total in the Calgary game with about 3 first downs. It's comical and also sadly pathetic the way the team and some fans use the Garbage Time stats as some kind of silver lining or opiate to appease the masses.
  7. It's by far easier to list all those who should be gone ASAP rather than anything that should stay. Out of the ones to keep, most are mediocre, and could either go or stay. So here you go: Gone Yesterday: ----------------------- Autistic Iron Mike Mouthy Family Guy Richie Prevent-D Hall Used Car Salesman Walters The whole OLine except for Chung The whole DLine except for Westerman The whole linebacking corps, including Leggett The whole receiving corps except for Mayo and Davis The whole secondary except for Randle and Adams All running backs except for Flanders Keep: ------- Chung Westerman Mayo and Davis Randle and Adams Flanders All current QBs (until someone better is found) I wouldn't wait to the end of the year, or even game 3 to effect a plan to make these changes. I'd start making them using the following strategy: 1) Bring in replacement candidates for the coaching positions now as "advisors" before firing each of the above. Have them work in parallel and make their own assessments of the problems, and then when they feel comfortable, fire each one of those losers on my list above and have the new candidates take over seamlessly. 2) With the new management and coaches installed with a seamless transition, do the same for each of the players above targeted for elimination. Keep bringing in competition until you find a player better than the target, and then fire or trade the target. Do it now, and use the entire remainder of this year as a platform to experiment and perfect the improvements by test driving coaches players and personnel people. We already know this team will miss the playoff again this year, so use the year as year 1 of the rebuild rather than making next year as year 1. Start the plan to make the changes immediately.
  8. Yes. This is part of the problem. The whole mess is a sum of some unattractive components. After reading some posts here I am now thinking that to say it is any one issue or player is not correct. You can't really say that many of the players brought in are bad players individually, although there are always a few questionable areas every year on a given team. Equally, you can't say that coaches like LaPo or Hall are inexperienced or without previous success - LaPo had a good run during the 2000-2003 era. It seems like the personnel, coaches, and team philosophies do not mesh and as a result, the effort and execution are just not there. This explains why some of the talent brought in that was previously successful now fails, and why some of the players discarded from the Bombers end up playing well on another team. The system LaPo wants to use will work if a team is built around it, starting with a QB and OLine capable of supporting that style. The problem is that I don't think Willy, the current OLine, or the receivers are a good fit to that style. Willy needs more time in the pocket and is more comfortable throwing 15 to 20 yard passes if he is given adequate time to do so. If he could start to complete those type of passes the blitz pressure would start to drop off and he would be more comfortable and more successful. There is nothing wrong with that style except it doesn't match well with Bombers other personnel selections and the direction the coaching staff has decided to take. If you look at BLM, that is the style Calgary was using to dissect the Bombers. Most Stamps passes were in the 10 to 20 yard range. So who is to blame? Not LaPo, as he is just trying to execute the scheme he was brought in to implement. I can bet you that O'Shea and Walters asked what type of offence he intended to run before he was hired, and that the type of offence implemented met with their approval. One could even argue that it looks like the Bombers went out shopping for an offence very similar to Bellfeulle and that's why they picked LaPo. I put the blame squarely on Walters and OShea, and indirectly, Miller and the BOD. Both of those guys need to go ASAP, and I'd really like the management model on the Bombers changed in the long term.
  9. Bring back Mike Kelley as coach, Jim Daley as defensive co-ordinator, Reinbold as offensive co-ordinator, Taman and a few extra Subway napkins for personnel, and then promote Autistic Iron Mike to Manager of Media Realtions... In some alternate universe, this is the "Dream Team" that will lead the Bombers to the first undefeated season and the Grey Cup promised land.
  10. I agree with you in that it is going to get very ugly. In any other North American market, I would also agree that the fans would abandon the organization like never before, but this is Winnipeg, and in that market the sports fans don't mind the losing as that is all they are used to. You could say that losing is in the spirit and soul of that City. Likely the BOD, Miller, Walters, and MIke will be granted a gigantic "do-over" or mulligan for the last 4 years and life will go on in Bomber world with unicorns and rainbows for all... I think the fan base and the politics in Winnipeg are a big part of the problem. Not convinced anymore that there is ever going to be a viable solution for this team even if they did blow it up and start all over with a new crew of misfits and cronies appointed by the Board.
  11. Corney got his first sack. Actually, I think with the right coaching that kid could be great, however I'm afraid that the crappy coaching the bombers have will ruin him.
  12. Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!! Give the man a Ceeegaaarrrr! Walters and the OLine are the biggest problem, but now I don't care and wouldn't mind to see everyone from the BOD down fired tomorrow. Honestly am beginning to think the only way to fix this is to move the Bombers to another city under private ownership.
  13. End of season, and perhaps not even then. Fans show up in Winnipeg no matter how bad the team plays so there is no accountability on a government run effort like the Bombers. The fans in Winnipeg are not very sophisticated and think a team like this is high quality. The acceptance they have for Team Garbage is why they have garbage year in and year out. Watch the posts on here saying how excellent this team is in a day or two...
  14. You are exactly right. They need to back the truck up and take mouthy Family Guy and all his Garbage linemen straight to the dump, right along with Mike Oshea and Kyle .
  15. Its safe to say that this is a very bad football team, not just a team that needs a little time to gel. This season could easily become Reinboldesque or even worse. I predicted 3 wins and from what I'm seeing now I doubt that will be possible. All the concerns mentioned last week are valid: - Worst OLine in pro sports - Inaccruate and shell-shocked QB - No speed in receiving corps when compared to other teams - A soft secondary that can't cover tight and consistently makes huge mental erros - A linebacking corps that is slow and not physical enough - A DLine that is not strong enough and gets pushed around All in all, given the shoddy management and coaching on this team none of this is a surprise. But don't worry positrons, they'll make it close in Garbage Time. This is a Garbage Club perfectly suited to Garbage Time
  16. Actually, not passing information along to the fans has an effect. Some fans want to know so that they can empathize, sympathize, or relate more to the players. Keeping these details at arms length makes the experience more impersonal for some. Also, this is entertainment, and just as is the case with Hollywood, the public wants to know details of the lives of their stars and heroes. For the athletes, that goes with the territory of the job in pro sports.
  17. We've been promised a much better game tonight by the Bomber management, Bomber coaches, Bomber players, and the deluded positron fans on this site. It's time to see what the Bombers are really made of. A reasonable expectation is if they are as good suggested by those above, they have to show some sign of improvement, not necessarily win, but make some kind of game of it for all 4 quarters, not just 10 min of Garbage Time. Have to admit, I'm skeptical. Show me something and I'll change my mind.
  18. Yep. This is also what I would think. For both (1) and (2) the OLine is going to have to perform much better AND Willy has to get rid of the ball sooner. In addition, he has to complete some passes in the 10 to 20 yard range or even deeper downfield as early as possible. You can't get the DBs to play off or get players to back out of the box and stop blitzing unless you have a significant threat down field. IMO, I don't think trying to run the ball on every possession will be as effective in stopping the blitz, but a running game will also help somewhat to increase TOP. For (3), I'd also like to see more of a pressure defence, but I doubt we'll see that. Hall's defences always seem to play too soft.
  19. Well said. The above is also my position on the subject. Also I agree with what many people on here say when they are asking for a diferent QB. A more athletic QB would definitely help the offence. If the team had a QB built like a linebacker, that enjoyed contact, could run, and was also a decent passer, it would take a great amount of pressure off the OLine. With the addition of some QB running plays you would have a very effective offence that would be difficult to defend. There are only two major problems with this. First, that combination of characteristics in a QB only comes along once every 25 years or so, and other teams will compete to retain a player with that talent combination. Second, players like that have short careers because that style is likely to cause injuries.
  20. Well you should give the kid a break... After all wbbfan is new to the CFL...
  21. Let's wait and see what happens. So far neither of those players has made the immediate positive impact that this team needs. Talk to me when they do something concrete. What they do 3 years from now won't matter much as the current regime is trending towards not surviving that long. In fact, the current regime is going to live and die by how proficient, or at least minimally competent, guys like Goosen can become this year.
  22. Yep, And that's the problem with Walters. Not including this year (and the verdict is still out on that), he hasn't really made his picks count. Waggoner was a total waste to give up a first rounder for a player who is likely only good enough to be a career special teamer. You could have selected a similar player in round 5. Another very poor pick is Goosen. He didn't start for a number of years because even as a first rounder he needed "development". Now his is a starter and looks like he is only ever going to be capable as a backup. His play in the middle is a big part of the Bombers problems. Walters needs to go before this Bomber team will ever be any better than what you saw in game 1.
  23. Yep. The way the Bombers play that is the case in at least two thirds of their games. For the game in question, definitely true. You can't honestly say that you didn't know the game was over well before half time.
