  1. No chance that the Alouettes are on the verge of folding. They won't have too much trouble finding a new owner at this point. The team is in a much better position now then the last time they were for sale. Attendance is up and league revenues are way up with gambling revenue extra TV revenue coming from the upcoming US TV deal. Lets not let our hatred for Ambrosie cloud our judgement. Thankfully the problem isn't with the business opportunity but rather with ownership. The team clearly works if it has solid ownership. That can happen with an older player playing for a dumpster fire team. If i was him Id try and play for a team that's competitive.
  2. Ultimately i think that Eli will be an upgrade over Couture. We lost a lot of grit and nastiness when we lost Desjarlais and Eli. Eli will bring at least some of that back and I think it will be very welcome. Can't wait for Dobsen to be part of the starting group as well. Sounds like the riders are dumping some overpaid players so they can overpay for different players to appease the fan base.
  3. BC or Calgary might be a good spot for him to take a backup job. I still think that the riders will be in on him as their starter. #2 feeds into #1.
  4. Its worth a try but I don't see Couture being interested in signing there so the Riders might not be willing to take any risk on a trade like that.
  5. I don't think what he did was so inexcusable either. It wasn't written in the contract ahead of time that he would need to be vaccinated. It was something that kind of just got added in on the fly I guess due to the travel restrictions. He wasn't a starter so it didn't hurt the team. He then opted to sit out while he was not under contract and now he's back. I wish the fully vaxxinated offensive line we had in last year's Grey Cup did a better job of protecting Zach. If he can help the team I'm glad he's back. There are plenty worse things players have done in the past then opt not to inject something in their body. How does Eli's unwillingness to inject compare to Andrew Harris' over eagerness to inject things costing the team two games with him?
  6. I think so too. I was speculating today with a friend that Couture might be on the way out due to salary. Now with this it seems like a no brainer that they aren't going to try and bid against BC again. Let him go. We are retaining a lot of talent and I would like to think that we will free up some money somewhere to make a big splash at receiver this offseason. We used to sign murderers to play Center.
  7. That's a pretty big addition to a crowded offensive line. Wonder how that impacts who we decide to bring back.
  8. I mean Collaros because of have good he is throwing on the run or off balance.
  9. Im hoping he does enough in the next couple of games if he gets a chance to be considered a backup next season to White. I think Zach Wilson will be traded and they will get rid of Flacco. Might actually be a potential landing spot for Nathan Rourke. Wouldn't it be interesting if Rourke ended up competing with Streveler for a backup job in the NFL? I doubt that he comes back to Winnipeg when he's done in the NFL. With the progress he's made in the passing department I think there will be a team in the CFL or XFL that offers him starting money.
  10. Yes I didn't mean to imply that and I don't think I did. Speedflex27 still has a bone to pick with me for some comments I made about him a few years back.
  11. I never said he couldn't understand that plays. Just that it was obvious that he was mostly providing value by being a tremendous motivator and his players loved playing for him and wanted to do well for him. I'd love to know if Allen tried coaching right after his career was finished. On Wikipedia he has no coaching credits at any level. It's now been 15 years since he played. And it's harder now to hire him as a qb coach with the coaching cap. He should coach in the ncaa somewhere or a high-school team to gain some experience as an offensive coordinator or rb/wr coach.
  12. The situation with Pinball was a bit different than the norm. He wasn't coaching to teach the X's and O's and scheme. He had a lot of clout with the players and is a tremendous motivator.
  13. I have no problem with giving him a chance to coach. Similar to AC. But i don't think it's wise to put him in a major role without proving something in a lesser role first. Id love to see him come in as a QB coach and work his way up. Let's keep in mind that great players don't always make great coaches. Just ask the quarterbacks who's the bombers fielded for the 2007 Grey Cup.
  14. Assuming Damon Allen is using this guy as a vessel to get his message out it reminds me of Warren Moon. Warren wanted to go directly to GM of the Edmonton Football Team after years away from the league. And with this guy pushing for him to be an OC again it seems like he probably wants to skip a few steps.
  15. You don't hear as much details because people in Calgary don't care about the team the way Bomber fans do. But in reality Hufnagel moved up and is no longer getting paid out of a football operations cap and Dickenson now does two jobs under the cap. Seems like a similar situation. However, I think it will end up looking different in Winnipeg.
  16. I get that they've signed them longer term. But if they have to give a 350k raise to Rourke they will likely have to release someone who is under contract.
  17. I don't see him signing with another reclamation project after what he endured in Edmonton. So which quality franchise is going to offer him off the charts money? Bombers would certainly offer him north of 200k. If Rourke signs back with BC it will be for a massive pay rise so they'll end up having to reduce expenses at receiver. Toronto will have to give raises across the board as Grey Cup Champs. Maybe Calgary will be in a position to offer on Lawler and Sask. Montreal isn't going to pay a receiver more than Eugene Lewis is getting. Hamilton has bigger fish to fry. I feel like Lawler will end up back here. I really want him back. But I'd rather have Lawler then Ellingson and Demski if it came down to it. Demski is good but I think McCrae can evolve into that type of player and we were often starting 2 or 3 additional Canadians.
  18. The missed convert kept us from "potentially" going to overtime. Toronto kneeled the ball with plenty of time on the clock.
  19. My bigger issue with leggs then the 1 point we missed was his punting and kickoffs in the Grey Cup. Especially when the other kicker is a beast. In terms of Placekicking/Converts Bede cost his team more then Leggs did.
  20. I would like to see the team free up some cap space so we can go after Kenny Lawler who i don't think will get a 300k offer again. I assume that Schoen is gone to the NFL and that's extra painful due to the production we got out of a rookie minimum salary. Players who could be traded/released to save some cap space. Johnny Augustine. I believe he was signed to a deal that paid him more or less the same as Brady. With the Canadian depth we have we don't need a 90k a year backup runningback who hardly plays. We could find a league minimum Canadain backup for situation where we don't dress an american backup runningback like with did with McCrae. If Brady is injured going into a game we have the canadian depth to start a league minimum American back. Jackson Jeffcoat - He's a good player but his injuries hurt the team this year especially in the grey cup. The only other knock on him is he's one of the more undisciplined players on the roster in terms of taking penalties. He's a good player. But i think we need to get back into the mode of have higher quality backups and maybe take a reduction in the quality of starter at this one position. IMO we lost the Grey Cup because he went down and we had no backup on the roster. Kelly had nothing and should not have produced a TD but that loss of contain doesn't happen with Sayles at DT and Jeffcoat at DE. Bighill - Can come back at a lower salary. He's still solid and has been durable. Kyrie Wilson - Injury history a risk. We should be able to find one linebacker. Stanley Bryant - Retires. Replace him with a league minimum replacement. I though that the offensive line we dressed in the late season game in BC look shaky in the first half but in the second half they played pretty well. Hopefully Desjarlais is available. Rose - underperformed. Would only bring back at a significant pay reduction. Couture - He's a guy you could probably trade for a high draft pick to a team like Edmonton or Ottawa and replace with Kolankowski. Use this high pick on an offensive lineman who can come in on a rookie deal and add depth behind the starters. Nick Taylor, Matson -No need to spend up on defensive backs. With everyone healthy we discovered quite a few good young defensive backs like Houston, Parker, and Lawrence. Alden Darby worth bringing back on a reasonable veteran salary. After what happened i think he will be more interested in taking a decent offer from Winnipeg this season. Ellingson - Would save that money and take some of the salary saved from other subtractions to focus on Lawler. If Lawyer can't be signed maybe we look at bringing back Ellingson on a reduction and another vet such as Burnham. I personally think Bo Levi Mitchell wants to test free agency because the job in BC might be available. If BC goes that route they won't be able to spend like this at receiver. Burnham most likely to be released due to age and salary.
  21. maybe it wasn't easier but it could have been a lot harder had he rushed for 3 touchdowns and won the MOP and Most Outstanding Player. There's going to be a nice rivalry going forward with Toronto. I hate them like you wouldn't believe.
  22. They were solid until Jeffcoat went out at we had no backups at defensive end. That hurt us on the first down run by Kelly where we lost contain.
