I was at that game. Gardner almost decap'd Smail and he looked groggy coming off the ice. Pitts had the powerplay I think and Mann went out to kill it. Well the pp was not what he was out to kill. I could see it coming and even motioned to my father that Mann was on the ice. 2 shots later and Gardners jaw was broken and he never played against Mann in Winnipeg again. NDP attorney general Roland Penner went after Mann and got a conviction.
