"Make him throw from the pocket"

I got a question for people who know football:

So you're a DC and you're facing a rookie QB. You want to force him to throw from the pocket. What kinds of defences do you call to do that?

Say you're the rookie QB operating against that defence. What opportunities are going to open up when the D is concentrated on keeping you bottled up?

The Esks have the best defence in the league. They make a lot of QB's look bad, not just young ones.

Specifically, they did so by not letting Cato get out of the pocket much, and then when he was taking too long to get the ball away, the pressure was there to get the sack. Cato looked like the game was just moving too fast for him last night.

That Esks D has made lots of QBs look awful.

it helps when you can get that type of pressure only rushing 3 guys...which edmonton did often last night.

It also helps that the als as a team are divided. The Michael Sam stuff is killing them. All over twitter right now.

Mostly because if Cato's first read isn't there he's leaving the pocket regardless of how much time he has.  Feel bad for those OL, it's the worst blocking for a QB with happy feet like that because you never know what he's doing.  You could have a great pocket and then the idiot runs right into the pass rusher that you've blocked perfectly.

hopefully we don't see that happen tonight!
