The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

Judging by the guest list I guess I shouldn't expect a new Wayne's World sketch like at SNL40. I just hope they do another in memoriam thing

I believe Dana Carvey hates Mike Myers big time for many reasons.  Mainly that he stole the Dr Evil voice from Dana's impression of Lorne Michaels.

This was disproven awhile back. They had some heat before but are long past that. Myers was on Carvey's podcast not that long ago.

They definitely did have issues for a long time over the Dr. Evil thing but yes they resolved that a few years ago after working together on a SuperBowl ad in 2021.

anyway I thought the Wayne's World sketch in SNL40 was satisfying enough (it was even more satisfying to watch them call out Kanye)

So, I wanted to catch up on some shows that I missed like the FBI Tuesday shows. Went to On Demand & can no longer watch them streaming. It seems Rogers & Bell are having some pissy licensing dispute & On Demand has been removed on Stack TV, CBC, Global, CTV & City TV stations. Reading that On Demand may never come back. can still watch Space & other stations. Once again, the lack of cpmpetition in this country leaves us a the mercy of these two Canadian telecommunication giants. We suffer & they don't care.

and I keep thinking that at least Canada never has to deal with any stupid disputes like I keep reading about with US stations

I wish there was some kind of order for all of these to break up but I am well aware that it doesn't work that way, if it I'd be back with Shaw and Shaw only in a heartbeat

Ever try to call Shaw/Rogers customer service? You're put on hold for hours. Even talking to a tech expert if there is a problem is a 2-3 hour hour adventure. Companies thaat treat their customers like that deserve no sympathy.

actually we did on sunday when I was hooking up the new gateway because well one thing turns into another thing but we managed to get it done...apparently they are easier to get a hold of on weekends than on weekdays

that doesn't mean my opinion about them has changed

I might give this show a try, though granted it might be a little grating to not see the character development we got in the film (referring to the Legally Blonde prequel)

Lithgow and accents 😬

You didn't like his Churchill? I thought he was great and I know he won awards for it...

yeah I thought he was pretty good, I was actually sorry that the Crown covered Churchill's passing (I'm even more sorry that the secretary that appeared up until the Pea Souper episode didn't exist)

Have not but I saw Cliffhanger :D

Did Netflix Just Cross the Streams?

Apple and Netflix have seemingly managed to find some common ground and strike a partnership for integration in the Apple TV app. Some users in the US are starting to be prompted to connect their Netflix account to the Apple TV app on their Apple TV 4K devices.

Lithgow did a great job as Churchill. I don't know why you didn't like it.

I said he was pretty good in the role I never said I hated it

well SNL50 was good but I feel they used up all the good material in SNL40 (but then again we're never going to see Celebrity Jeopardy ever again) The Music Doc and the movie we got last fall were a tad better

SNL 50 was sensational. I couldn't possibly have asked for more... Except maybe a Stefon in place of Downer, but Hader declined the invite. Just a tremendous effort all around.

I just wish Kattan didn't have chronic pain, have you ever wondered what could possibly happen if Mango had a run in with Stefon?

Ackroyd also missing was disappointing seems like their is no animosity on his part. Carvey would of been nice to see too
