Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

 

Anyone else into this?

 

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

 

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

 

House of Cards was tremendous.

 

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

 

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

 

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

I was really intrigued by the premise actually.  Their problem was how poor it looked having two white guys developing it.  

So NBC’s streaming services.  Among the new shows are revivals of:

Punky Brewster 

Saved By The Bell 

Battlestar Galactica

Real Housewives 

it will be the streaming home for The office (which is a blow to Netflix), Frasier etc

And maybe an Office revival?   Should be more info out later today.

Makes sense to have  a free version.  Her those people in between cord cutting and loading up on streaming.  The future is streaming. It won’t be cheaper than cable but you’ll have more content and better options.

Although, it would be hard to reproduce the excellence of season 1, assuming they went in an entirely different direction.

To me that is not bad news that’s great news. No one was expecting it to continue past this season due to closeness to start of Breaking Bad timeline.

Interesting that Bryan Fuller was show runner for amazing stories.  And once again left the series.  He has a habit of doing that.  Seems like a guy that can’t get along with others.

Speaking of Apple Tv+ the streaming service has won it's first SAG award and it was for best actress in a comedy. And it's kind of funny since Jennifer Aniston ended up winning after Brad Pitt did

I hate how tvline makes it look like some of these shows were cancelled. They are choosing to end it on their own.

It's totally something they can revisit in a few years. No urgency right now. But, yes, was expecting everything to come up to today.

Netflix is 167 million subs and I believe I read they actually increased since Disney was launched.

I'm wondering when Disney Plus released if a lot of families cut cable and ended up going with the Netflix / Disney Plus combo instead...
