They can still sub for an American like they always could any snap. Just gives that flexibility for the designated player to sub in for any starter basically. Keep in mind there's no ratio on special teams plays, teams run about 60 snaps each on O and D.

Honestly the absolute simplest spot for them to run this would be on the DL. Make Jefferson the DNA, designate Lawson/Gatkuoth and you gain 25 snaps where you don't have to match subs by nationality on D. So if they wanted to be really careful you could just do that in the long quarters (2nd and 4th).

Offense we really don't have the Americans dressed to even use it.

would more than cover the snaps a lousy Hallett...Kelly...would play a game for example

Its can be a huge benefit, especially with an injury..But Osh is just a knob and refuses
