Matt Rempe of the Rangers was ejected for the 4th time in 22 career games.  He will also receive an in-person hearing for this hit and had already been suspended once for elbowing..

Has the league ever banned a player for being dangerous?

Found this:  Billy Coutu was the first, and to date only, player banned from the NHL for life for violence in 1927; he assaulted referee Jerry Laflamme and tackled referee Billy Bell before starting a bench-clearing brawl during a Stanley Cup game between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators.  The penalty was commuted after two-and-a-half years, but Coutu never played in the NHL again.

Raffi Torres was suspended 41 games in 2015 (the same number of games Shane Pinto was suspended for gambling issues).  Torres was for an illegal check to the head on Jakob Silfverberg and interference (longest non-lifetime suspension in NHL history; suspension length was issued because Torres had nine previous instances of NHL rule violations which required supplemental discipline rather than the check itself)

Marty McSorley was effectively suspended for life for his high stick to the head of Donald Brashear. Originally 23 games and all playoffs in 2000, then extended to a full year suspension, during which his contract ended and he was criminally convicted for assault. Never played another game in the NHL.

8 games for Rempe.  That’s where the dart landed this time.

yeah banned, convicted and earned him a spot among the Air Farce Chicken Cannon targets of 1999 (yeah I know it's random for me to bring up but still)

the Rangers troubles continue

This doesn’t hurt the Rangers. It helps them. Now they can’t play this idiot plug who isn’t good enough. 8 games is pretty weak honestly. Dudes played under 30 his career and has been suspended for what? 15 plus games? Rangers now get to play an actual hockey player 5 minutes a night.

I wonder what his excuse will be once he cools off with Montreal and starts facing the heat from the fans...

He’ll just get hurt again. Oh he just did.

Was it ever revealed why Laine wanted out of Winnipeg? Losing wasn't it here....

He didn’t. Jets didn’t wanna pay him but there are rumours of a riff with wheeler.

I thought the issue was that he was addicted to video games, didn't want to play under the Maurice system (i.e. couldn't be a cherry picker),  and wanted top dollars.

It was $$$. He wanted more than Blake was getting. Jets decided he wasn’t worth it. Work ethic played a role. The other stuff don’t matter. Off ice issues irrelevant here. Dude loved it here. His mom even said she wished he could come back here. It’s always $$$. The wheeler riff was real. And I’ll be honest I’m on wheelers side on that one. I don’t see the problem with wheels wanting guys to bust their asses as much as he really did. Laine wasn’t addicted. Olli Juolevi was addicted.

Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski did not hold back when asked about Laine’s comments earlier in the day: “It’s unfortunate … For him to bash us like that, I think it’s just unacceptable.” “We were nothing but good teammates to him. For him to come in and say that is bullshit. Definitely not happy about it and none of us in this room are happy about it. It speaks more about him than it does us.” “What’s he thinking saying that? It’s just incredible.”

Laine is a ******. Bashed Columbus pretty badly in the article there above I think. He played 18 games for them last season for context. He’s the problem everywhere he goes. It’s unfortunate. All god given talent and nothing else. PP specialist and that’s it. His other aspects of his game is the same or worse when he was here. He’s the problem.

is it just me or does he have the worst luck? Matthews and Laine keep breaking and he's on waivers....wouldn't it be funny if we picked him up (I'm not being serious I know there's no chance)

Montreal might be smart to grab him. He had great chemistry with Laine in his Finnish career.

He has 8 points in 20 plus game. Luck has nothing to do with it. He a bust.

I wouldn’t. If Sid Malkin drai and McD couldn’t make it work nobody can.

But as a bottom 6 player instead of the pressure of top 6?
