  • I'm sorry you can't go out on your own terms. I hope your retirement is great and filled with family and friends.

  • Thanks, appreciate it. I don't have to get up at 4:50 am anymore. That's a plus!

  • To me, there's a difference between players would could not live up to their expectations and a player who, due to health issues, didn't get the chance to.  We'll never know what Patrick could have do

wow goalie at age 50.  I bet he was going through a lot of Advil lol...

Johnny Bower may have been in his 50's when he played for the Leafs & won their last Stanley Cup in 1967.

Terry Sawchuk finds willing ear for account of operation. Fellow... News Photo - Getty Images

Sawchuck was something like 38 and he was the young dude in that duo.

Goalies everywhere still owe a debt of gratitude to the innovator...Jacques Strap...

As a former goaltender in hockey, still play from time to time but the knees don’t cooperate as much but as a former goaltender, terry sawchuck was a local hero for sure. Believe he died young tho but dude lived in the area i grew up in and the old incinarena was renamed to honor him. Terry grew up on Melbourne avenue in East Kildonan. I grew up about 10 streets away. Legend

it’s still crazy to me that he died because him and a friend got into a bit of a brawl and yup. Weeks later he passed away. Also crazy that he’s buried in Michigan

Nobody really knew when Bower was born. It was crazy.

I heard it was chiseled on a stone tablet that he kept in his yard....but unfortunately it was all in Roman numerals.

Can’t say I’m surprised. He’s unfortunately been injured every season he’s played pro. Hopefully the Ehlers disease is treatable cuz sounds brutal. Best wishes. Maybe jets should hire him as a scout.

Logan Couture done

I thought he retired awhile ago.  Never got a Cup, but came close.

SJ had a good team at one point. Jumbo Joe Little Joe and now Couture done truly is a new day in San Jose.

I never thought Thornton had what it took to be a winner.  I watched that collapse of the Sharks against Edmonton in 2006 where they were up 2-0 and then lost game 3 in a mega-long OT game, and then dropped 3 straight after that, and just knew they didn't have the drive to win it all.

Oshie Done

Top: A photo of T.J. Oshie raising the Stanley Cup in a Washington Capitals uniform. Bottom: Large text on a black background reads, "T.J. Oshie. Thank you. Wishing you all the best in retirement". Below that are the logos of each of the teams he played for in this order, "St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals".

He really does need to open a sports bar now, named after himself.

That was always what the Sports guy (Taylor?) used to say on Sportsnet when Oshie would score a goal - "Time to order the wings at TJ Oshies".
