Heard him calling a game against Calgary. Calgary has it at the 2. No call because he and his partner are chatting followed by and Calgary scores a td. No mention of who (Messam) or how (run).

I get that Bob Irving is the best but have heard the crew out of Hamilton and Ottawa to name two and they are light years ahead.

Brian Hall when he covered the Eskimo games did the exact same thing. He`d be spouting off on commericals during the play. Growing up in Wpg I took what Knuckles did for granted - almost always setting the plays pre snap, who`s in motion, who`s covering who. Back in the day home games weren`t televised and that`s the only recourse we had to listen.

But my all time fav Brian Hall call was Milt Stegall`s miracle catch. Hallsy was going on about the Eskimo player of the game, Tony Roma`s ribs, etc. Then out of the blue he says `He`s got it, Stegall, he`s got the ball and is running to endzone and he`s going to score, where`s the flag Morley (color man), there`s gotta be a flag somewhere..............`. I hope Knuckles lasts as long as Vin Scully.

His 4 quarters in that stretch were the worst we have seen from a qb this year. If all you saw was the pic you must have 20-200000000000000 vision lol.  Believe what you like, but willy had his helmet on. And if we hadnt gotten that pick right back i fully believe that would have been it for nichols.

Not sure what you mean about that '4 quarter' stretch. And I've seen Willy with his helmet on on the sidelines all the time. In Edmonton he never had it off. Not sure what you are talking about there either unless you think he was moments away from filling in for Nichols here in Edmonton.

And if Willy had gone out and had the start that Nichols did last night the story would be entirely different for some people. There would be lots of "D won the game for him" like there was in that first Hamilton game. There is right now a double standard between the two quarterbacks. Some people see Willy as being unable to do anything bad and gloss over the good he does and some people gloss over the bad Nichols does.

There was more than just a qb change for this team and it is unfair to put it all on the qbs. Nichols had a rough game last night that's undeniable, but they made enough plays on offense to overcome the bad and the D and special teams won the battle big time so it was a good win for the team. These are things that weren't happening with regularity early in the season and confidence was down across the board for all players and it showed in the results. Now some good things have happened and the teams confidence is sky high. This team for the past several years has been driven by momentum. When they have it things are great but when they don't have it they can't get it back and things snowball on them.

But that's what a true 'starter' does. Everyone has bad games and bad stretches. You think John Elway was lights out the whole game in that classic AFC Final against the Browns? There was a reason why he had to make 'the drive' at the end of the game to win it. I haven't seen Willy do that - at least not since his first year in Wpg. He's been getting progressively worse the longer he's been there. This year Willy has nice numbers but about 70% of them have come after the game was well out of reach. If you look at Willy's last start prior to the switch to Nichols (against Calgary) the Wpg D and special teams were keeping the bombers so the Calgary defense stayed tough and Willy couldn't do anything. I was actually hoping Willy was going to do well. He seems like a good kid. But right now it doesn't look like he's cut out to be a starter.

IMO - the dumbest thing the bombers ever did was sign him and immediately proclaim him as their starter. The Eskimos signed Reilly to give competition to Nichols (and vice versa) when they traded Ray. They did not want to annoit either as 'the' starter and Nichols was looking like he was going to win the job (though the media had given it to Reilly prior to camp opening) but he blew his knee in the home preseason game and the rest is/was history.

The bombers should never have tied their wagon to guy with what - four starts (did he even have that much)? Things might of even turned out different (in a good way) for Willy if he was forced to compete. The good news is he is now. He's no longer the #1 guy in Wpg that's pretty obvious. The bad news - no CFL team can afford a 400k a year backup QB. For this year he may stay on but he'll be released at season's end if things remain the same (Nichols stays healthy and stays as a starter). Willy's only hope is if Nichols either gets hurt or becomes extremely innaffective (Willy like) and Willy steps in and plays like he did in his first three games as the bomber starter. I still think he ends up in Montreal.

  3. Wow wbbfan - really? On the verge of being pulled. Tell you what I saw - I saw Nichols throw an INT - I saw Toronto march it down then I saw the Wpg Defense (which I chose in fantasy football this week :) ) intercept him. Then I saw Nichols smartly march the ball downfield to get a field goal. After than, after every Argo turnover - I saw Nichols march it in the end zone.

I've also seen this story before, with the bomber d getting turnovers, and I saw Drew Willy do absolutely NOTHING with the ball except a two and out (if you were lucky) or turn it right back over to them.

Even though he has been hurt a lot, when healthy, Willy has been given every opportunity to prove himself. More than enough. He has been given enough to hang himself with about 5 times already, and he unfortunately he has.

Nichols being pulled - LMAO - WBBFAN - only way Nichols is going to be pulled from a game is if he carried out on a stretcher. It's not even a discussion, he's the Bomber #1 QB now. And it gets better I'm afraid (for all Willy fans) as next up after a bye is Montreal - bombers most likely win that game (would have won the home opener if Nichols started) then it's very conceivable the bombers sweep the mess that is the Sk Roughriders.

The question I have is will Willy even be on the team? If I were O'Shea, and if for whatever reason Nichols has to be 'pulled' from the game - I'm putting Davis in. No way no how I'm paying 400 grand to a 'backup' and at that salary Willy is untradeable. You can't give him away at that salary. He will be released if things stay the same. Willy is a terrible starting QB - he's a backup at best and should be paid as one. If he has any decency, he'll re-sign in Wpg at a backup rate - if not - he'll move on to the east (maybe Toronto or Montreal). I can't see him back in Sk either - Jones would have no interest in him.

Quite honestly, I'm so tired of this "there are bullies" nonsense that gets thrown around here. I'm not a bully. Chase isn't a bully. Atomic isn't a bully.

There is literally not a single bully on this entire forum. There are strong opinions. There are people who tend to agree with eachother. There are people who tend to disagree with eachother. If you feel like you're being bullied (aka verbally abused, insulted, beaten down) then absolutely the staff will address it. If you feel like you're being bullied because your definition of the word is "someone who disagrees with my opinion", then toughen up. This is a discussion forum, not a sounding board.

TBURGESS probably hates it, but he's always my example when someone brings up this argument. He and I probably disagree on 90% of what we discuss on this forum, but I don't think he's ever referred to me as a bully. Do you know why? Because he actually likes to discuss his opinion. I may not agree with it, but he at least doesn't get all up in arms about it. He tells me why he thinks I'm wrong, I tell him why I think he's wrong, we discuss, we pick apart then we get over it and either agree or agree to disagree and we move on.

There are always a certain group of "victims" on any forum you will ever visit who are so strongly opinionated, but can not handle being addressed in return by an opposing strong opinion. This is a discussion forum where opinions are subject to - you guessed it - discussion. If you don't like your opinion being discussed, the internet is probably not the place to share it.

    Really? <_<

  5. Only thing I'd be cautious of - but first great game by Nichols and the Bombers - loved Nichols little jest to the Esks' bench after his TD throw in the second half - but Edmonton got beat up good on Saturday, had two days of practice, and their best cover guy is playing on one leg (Watkins).

I want to see how the bombers perform over the next few weeks but I'm in Nichols' corner. He had a lot of bad luck when he was here in Edmonton, and this is his last good shot IMO to be a starter in the CFL and I hope he take full advantage of it. Now about that Eskimo Defense ......

Just go away. You're a big hero "suffering" the way you did but you say you're no longer a fan. You claim you kicked the team to the curb yet here you are. Others are angry but haven't quit on the Bombers. You're actually bragging about your decision as you've posted similarily at least a half dozen times recently. No one is impressed with your so called pain. Go post on Esks Fans if you want a pat on the back from a fanbase.

Where's the fun in that iso? Last I checked, I live in a free country and can do whatever I want to do unless I'm breaking the law. No laws being broke here. Besides, I thought I was on your 'ignore' list. Promises Promises - trust me won't hurt my feelings one iota

J5V I appreciate your comment however if there was a loyal Bomber fan, I believe I can be counted in that group. I am 70yrs old and have been an avid fan since I was 8, think that makes it 62 years. I have had season tickets for many years and when not employed in Winnipeg watched and listened to them on radio and cheered in every town, city I was in. It isn't that I am not loyal but when you have followed them as long as I have and have witnessed the worst run in perhaps the history of the team, save for the few short years Reinbolt was here, there comes a time when you just can't see the logic in continually beating your head against the wall. I still watch and cheer on TV but my time and money are better spent doing something else like not wasting 3 hours of the day commuting to IGF to watch a less than entertaining event with a very stubborn coach who in my humble opinion believes loyalty to his players take precedent over loyalty to those who pay their and his salary. I'm sorry if you feel I jumped ship before it sank but I would rather swim than get taken down by the undertow. That is if I read your post correctly.

Great post there OBF - you got me by quite a few years I was about the same age though - I was 9 years old and followed the bombers religiously until, well, I guess it was in October of last year - can't remember the specific game but I finally had enough. So for me, its' 42 years. We got quite the different reaction regarding our decisions. Even the mods are jumping all over me here. Never seen anything like it. But, TBH - I'm sick and tired of saying nothing but negative things on here about the team. For the most part, that's all they've been giving me options for save that 5 -1 start when I was over the moon for both Willy and O'Shea. You'd think I'd have known better. So I'll be at the game tonight, and for the first time ever here, I won't be trying to 'defend' the bombers. Though if they play great and win - it sure will put a smile on my face ;)

Week 9 is the bye week so that would probably be the most likely time to fire him if they do. Although it wouldn't surprise me if they waited til the end of the season.  If they keep losing, they shouldn't though

That would be my guess, and if the bombers are 1 - 7 going into the bye - it's buh bye O'Shea and Willy may well be released right along with him.

  9. Lots of good stuff here. I liked the comment about Nichols being his last shot. That's true - he wants to be a #1 - probably why he re-signed in Wpg. Don't forget, when the Esks first signed Reilly, he wasn't signed as the #1 - they signed him to battle Nichols for the #1 job. Esks didn't want to 'hand' anything to Nichols, they wanted him to 'earn' it (there's a novel concept).

Unfortunately, Nichols had his knee blown up in the home preseason game (which he had started and looked very good though again only pre-season) and Reilly got the job defacto and the rest, as they say, is history.

Nichols is motivated and should do well here tomorrow night. I'm really looking forward to the game and hoping for a good one. I really don't want to see a blowout.

Assuming Nichols does well though - it's not Thursday's game that will define it IMO. It will be the next few games. If Nichols maintains a high level of play and moves the ball consistently, then I think Willy will be released (as mentioned earlier he is untradeable - his contract is far too big just like Glenn's was). They'd have to release him before Labour Day I believe though - otherwise they're on the hook for the whole thing so you may as well hang on to him at that point.

the 5-1 start was pretty awesome. I remember being really  up on Willy after not wanting him, and, some what impressed with MOS. The results were there. Since that 5-1 start it's been a debacle. Just a hot mess.

I think I mentioned before too about how winning 07 or 01 or 11 would have made a world of difference for this team and our fan bases morale. 01 was the least excusable. That was our Cup and a sub 500 team got hot at the right time, and, we didn't show up. That one hurts. The loss to BC was painful of course but not entirely unexpected. It's the loss the Riders that stings the most even now, and probably within the hard core fans still rings in our ears a bit. We were the better team for sure and a terrible fluke injury doomed us. Ugh. I can`t even bare to think about that game much more or I`ll get all pissed off.

What Mike said was bang on. As Bomber fans were not enjoying this team right now, were coping with it. Its a terrible way to be a sports fan.

You guys weren't the only one - I too thought I was dead wrong on Willy after that start. Guess now the Bombers will see what Nichols has evolved into. AS an FYI - Esks have the worst defense in the CFL - only 'bright spot' was their game in Winnipeg. Esks have 5 sacks total this year, three against Wpg. Esks only gave up 16 points against Wpg. Ottawa scored 45 points (and won), Sask scored 36 (and lost), and we all saw what Hamilton did.

It would be a new low for Wpg to come in here, on a weeks rest, and not score 30 points against this team. I thought maybe the Esks defense was putting it back together but in retrospect Drew Willy has no business running any kind of offense in this or any other league. 36 games (or is it 37 now) without scoring 30 points in a scoring league. It really doesn't get any worse, it just doesn't, 'cept for Thursday if they lay another egg.

Since Dave Ritchie, the Bombers have had 6 head coaches. Not a one of them had even a single game of CFL head coaching experience.

Of those 6, not a one of them has ever been hired as a CFL head coach again. What does that tell you?

It tells me most of you should do what I did to keep your sanity lol. That's quite the stat I never thought of - but it answers a lot of questions right there. But I wonder when LaPo takes over for MOS if that stat will still count or not?

  12. 1 hour ago, BigBlue said:

Wou;d this BpD spend a million $ to hire Marc Trestman? When have they stepped up up and paid up to get the best QB in the CFL ... when in recent times  have they done anything to get the job done, get that championship ring?

Isn't Trestman the OC in Baltimore? Unless something changed that I'm not aware of.

  13. Good point Do - Bomber receivers have not been making plays at all for their QB's. I don't think the bombers even have a legit downfield threat - so that's will help the porous Esk Defence big time, just like it did when they played in Wpg.

Good call on Nichols though - he'll be fired up which is why I mentioned it in the chat. I know you think it's a 'trap' game tracker but IMO it's the exact opposite. Willy does not inspire the offense whatsoever, and as soon as he faces any kind of adversity in a game, he folds like a cheap tent.

But the real issue on Thursday will be the bomber secondary. They'd be shredded if they were healthy - three guys out (if that's the case  - including Randle) spells 500 yards passing for Reilly

  14. 7 minutes ago, iso_55 said:

As bad as the Esks offense was in the second half, that team's defensive collapse was gigantic. Benevides is on the hot seat as his unit has been hot & cold this season. That Johnny Sears injury looked gruesome. His left leg was freaking sideways. That has to be a dislocated or broken hip.

An ambulance came to cart him away - yeah it was pretty ugly. Hate to see that.

On a side note - the halftime show featuring Flo Rida was great - all went downhill from there.

Sad part boys - the only time the Eskie defense has looked good this year is - yep, you guessed it, in Winnipeg. They struggled against SK, were awful against Ottawa but this second half tonight - was disgusting.

What am I getting at - NO EXCUSE for O'Shea and the bomber. Reilly got the **** kicked out of him tonight. He's beat up real good. The defense is what they are - they have holes all over the place. They now have a mandatory two day break, which means they can't practice until Tuesday with the game here on Thursday. Bombers have a full week. If LaPO, Willy (or whomever starts), and O'Shea can't take advantage of this - or worse, if the Bombers get blown up (like their want to do here) then I don't know what to say. O'Shea can't possibly keep his job. I'm not talking a loss here, I'm talking a blowout. A close game loss O'Shea can survive, a beatdown? Not likely.

Good luck guys - Edmonton looks ripe for the picking - hopefully enough of injured bombers (especially the secondary) can come back in this one.

It's sad that you just don't get it.

No what's sad is you guys don't have a team to cheer for. I really hope the Bombers turn it around - sooner or later I'm sure they will and when they do maybe you guys can rub it in my face (I won't go anywhere and I'd never change my ID - I may change my avi though lol) - wouldn't bother me in the least!

  16. BOmbers never do well here, in fact saving a couple of games that I can count on one hand since '98, the bombers always get blown out here. Right now this team has zero confidence, zero resolve, zero fight.

MOS will be paid until the end of the year, fired or not. My prediction - Banjo bowl. If after the banjo bowl the bombers only have two wins (and the banjo bowl is not the 2nd win) and they lose the banjo bowl, the season will officially be a write off and the bombers will fire O'Shea.

I wonder though if the Bombers will do better - they seem to be too uptight in Wpg. The players are definitely uncomfortable with being booed, especially Willy. Regardless of what he says, Willy is really bothered by it.

Since I seem to be the fav 'whipping boy' around here that people like to pin their anger on - come kill me. Lots of witnesses though - so hope you don't mind spending 25 years in prison for the offense lol.

Oh really? Well you just did the same thing didn't you? Pot calling kettle - Pot calling Kettle - helloooooooo Kettle

edit - and just to add Mike - I've said, and never made any bones about it, and never have, that I'm a C - F - L fan first. I support the CFL no matter where I am. If I were to move to Vancouver tomorrow, I'd be a Lions season ticket holder. If I moved back to Wpg - Yep I'd buy Bomber Season Tickets. So don't you dare get all 'high and mighty' with me. You pretty much just said what I said last year - only it took you a bit longer to reach your breaking point.

Know what finally turned me? Eskimo fans, they used to jab me and mock me when I was wearing my blue and gold while at Eskimo games (Bombers playing or not). I loved it, I gave it right back. Last year, they were genuinely 'feeling sorry' for me. Feeling sorry? Really? When the Esks pounded on them here at Commonwealth, I didn't even have the dignity of being razzed (It's all part of the fun IMO). Now that is embarrassing, the ultimate insult. This doesn't mean I wish the bombers any ill will at all. In fact I still cheer for them (so what - I can do whatever I want) 'cept when they play the Eskimos'

And as an FYI - I'm really enjoying the season so far this year - though not the bombers side of it but at least I have one team that is doing something - makes the CFL fun. So sue me.

I'm done with going to Bomber games.

I'm not done watching the team. I'm done making the 40 minute drive and 20 minute walk to the stadium to subject myself to the product that we're being given. I'm still going to watch religiously every single game, but I want the ability to turn this garbage off with the push of a button instead of having to travel another hour back home.

We absolutely ****ing suck. I'm sure it's a combination of things and I'm sure the blame isn't on any singular person, but this team just lacks any entertainment value whatsoever. I'm 26 years old now, I've had season tickets since 1999, when I was 9 years old and I used to have so much team spirit that I would save up birthday and Christmas money to buy my own so I could go with my dad. I didn't want my parents to buy my tickets, because I wanted to support the team myself. Sure, it was all their money anyways but that was the pride I had in being a Bomber fan, I thought at 9 years old that I could proudly support them MYSELF.

I never used to miss a game for anything. I've missed birthdays. Weddings. Parties. I've gotten in fights with girlfriends because I wanted to watch a Bomber game on TV instead of going out to a BBQ or some kind of other social function. I missed half of my high school graduation to listen to preseason football on the radio. I've driven to Calgary, Edmonton and Regina to watch games, despite it taking all the way until last year to ever see a road win. Two years ago, I went to Los Angeles during Bomber season and they were playing Hamilton (the game where McDuffie returned a TD on us) and I missed watching half of a Dodger game because I stayed in their team store until the end of the Bomber game because that was the only place in the stadium I could get consistent wifi. There are literally no ends to what I've done to expose myself to as much Bomber football as I possibly can and I really just don't give a **** anymore.

I'm tired of Mike O'Shea and his "I don't know what's going on" attitude. His post game interview last night was depressing and apparently his halftime interview with Sara Orlesky was even worse. I'm tired of no answers for anything. I'm tired of trying the same **** over and over again and expecting it to worth the 17th time when it didn't work the first 16. I'm tired of watching teams run the same plays we do for 15, 20, 30 yards when we can barely run them for 2. We've seen 7 wins in 30 tries at Investors Group Field and it's ****ing pathetic. If it's not the QB, it's the defense. If it's not the defense, it's the playcalling. If it's not the playcalling, the kicker misses. If the kicker doesn't miss, it's the QB. Whatever it is, we never put it together and I'm just so defeated watching this unentertaining product. Even 5-6 years ago, we weren't very good but we could see progress. Now? Nothing. I was talking with my dad at the last game and we were trying to recall all the good memories we've had of watching the team play at IGF. My fondest ****ing memory is the game where Jason Boltus somehow managed to throw a pass backwards and I laughed at how pathetic we were. That's the only positive memory I have of IGF. Some "so bad it's funny" bull**** that only the Bombers could pull off. That's not how I want to remember Bomber football. At Canad Inns? I remember the TD record. I remember Khari Jones instilling confidence in a fanbase that knew even if we were down going into the fourth quarter, we sure as **** had a chance to win - a good chance. I remember the Stegall 4 catch, 4 TD game. I remember the Thanksgiving comeback. I remember Swaggerville coming up into Section S to celebrate with the fans after a Eastern Final win against Hamilton when Chris Garrett ran over, around and by everything near him in the snow. Remember watching football in the snow? Not at IGF, because our lockers are cleaned out by then.

Remember when we fired Doug Berry because making the playoffs 3 years in a row but not winning a Grey Cup was unacceptable? Can you imagine making the playoffs 3 years in a row now? I'd kill for it. I can't remember the last time I actually had to pay for my playoff ticket because it's been carried over from the previous year for what? I dunno, 5 years now? Another 5 before that? Who even knows at this point. All I know is I can't subject myself to this garbage anymore. I just laugh. What else am I supposed to do? Getting mad doesn't do anything. It's not worth investing the effort. The team sure doesn't. All I know is I've gone from a fan who would've missed my mom's birthday to listen to a Bomber radio broadcast through a broken walkie talkie to a fan who literally would rather stay at home so he can go pull weeds after we get run outta the building in the first quarter. We ****ing stink. And I can't be bothered to care anymore.

Careful now - I did that and they want me off these boards now. Try living in a city that has a real football team and a real QB - and going to their games for 13 years - I should be given a medal for as long as supported the bombers - not vilified.

  21. 9 hours ago, Goalie said:

I'm not sure willy is the biggest problem. Being at the game... receivers rarely run routes longer than 10 yards

Darvin Adams exemplified that big time. It's what I've been saying. WATCH the other teams, I watch the Eskimo's all the time. Anyone here think Reilly is perfect? Not even close. He usually just throws the ball to an 'area' when he goes deep, it's his 'receivers' that make a play on it. You all saw Bowman do it last week. Not to mention his 8 yard route when he needed 10 yards (and that was the game btw - that's where the bombers lost it).

That being said, Willy is NOT a 400k QB- bombers hitched their wagon to the wrong guy - AGAIN!

I'm a broken record, but I'll say it again. Until the bombers find their OWN QB - they are not doing anything. They might have some limited success here and there, but if they can't find a QB (and there's more out there than people think btw) the Bombers will never be significant in the CFL. The bombers are the new 'Riders, like it or not. Perennial doormats. The free space on the bingo card.

And now its what - 37 games since we scored 30 points in a game. 17to85 thinks that's no big deal. Really. So if the Winnipeg Jets failed to score 4 goals or more in hockey for two seasons - that would be 'no big deal'??? 17 - that's a HUGE deal. It's a scoring league. 30 points - teams get that by accident - Calgary got over 30 yesterday and they only played half a game (well 2 and 1/2 quarters). That stat by itself tells you how effective Willy (though he probably only started about 22 or 23 of those games - but still even that's not acceptable for a 400k a year guy) and MOS are as a team.

Agreed - don't get this. There's only eight other teams. What exactly is a weak schedule? Bombers are in tough no matter who is on the dance card with them, and where it's being played. That's just a fact. Bombers have a 'tough' schedule all the way through the season lol.
