  1. ...and that decision may already be made, if Brown agreed to terms to stay for another year, they would probably have announced it this week. He'd be dumb not to explore FA. Here's what he earned last season, making him the 15th highest paid QB in the land. Hard money: $82,000 Maximum value: $97,000 "The Oklahoma State product has a $75,000 base salary with $7,000 in housing money and will collect $500 each time he plays more than 51 percent of Winnipeg’s offensive plays in a game." If anything the ability to pay him more will be more challenging next season, considering all the other major bumps Walters has to administer.
  2. No team would be foolish enough to offer him a one year deal so he can double back after year one, if he wants access to the land of $300k+ contracts he's going to have to show them some commitment so they can build an offence around him, by signing a 2 maybe 3 year contract. GM's and coaches will also consider retaining their own jobs in this process, if Brown signs for one year and leaves after a good or a bad season, it would leave a coach like Bob Dyce in the same vulnerable position of starting again with nuthin'.
  3. Looking forward to what Max Charbonneau 6'-3" 225 lbs. Natl. LB can bring to the table, draft pick last year that did not look out of place in the pre-season games.
  4. Kramdi has become a versatile ratio option on defence, he allows them to play one less Natl. on the D-line.
  5. Hope they make it more of a spectacle this year, they've dialed back media attention since the last time it was held in Wpg.
  6. Only a couple of business days left in the year and they've only announced the resigning of 2 players, not a lot of time left to spend leftover 23 cap money.
  7. Because general consensus is Eli is ready to assume the Centre position and offers more upside. Are you suggesting Kola displaces someone else along the line or would be happy becoming the 6th man? He may not start on most teams but he could probably find 2 or 3 that would be happy to have him.
  8. Dobson appears to be the only one that isn't a FA this year, which is weird because he just finished his second year with the team.
  9. TBD, maybe Kola, Gray or Dobson, nobody wants to be the 6th man at this point in their careers.
  10. The alternative is receiving nothing and seeing an O-lineman or two leave to play elsewhere.
  11. Probably too late now, but whatever happened to trading good assets when the cupboard is full? Kola could be a starter on many teams, and Walters could have received some well needed assets in return, like perhaps an under-used Natl. DE.
  12. Hard to get much done from his new home in Hamilton, not all neighborhoods have internet or phone lines.
  13. Maybe Harris was thinking he would use the Raiders job as a stepping stone to a professional career and didn't expect to have any pro coaching opportunities come his way this quickly. I believe he still has a number of businesses that provide semi-passive income, so the Jr. coaching job would have been a part time gig.
  14. Dane Evans has the tools to be a top 5 CFL QB, if he could get over the mental hurdles of crumbling under pressure.
  15. Every CFL team is looking at the same economic model, not sure any of them would think it's a great idea to invest that much of their cap in a Natl. RB, I think the bidding would peter out before it reached $200k.
  16. Mills has more power at 225 lbs., he'd be a better fit than Logan who is more of a quick scat back and returner, weighing in under 200 lbs..
  17. I don't know, the only angle I can see Walters taking that would reduce Lawler's salary, is pointing out the immigration fiasco that kept him on the sidelines for 6 games reduced his value to the team. He did play well when he played, and Walters offered him the big contract and he accepted, so unless Walters wants to look bad chiseling some back, I think he sticks with the initial agreement. Kenny might be willing to drop $20k to keep Schoen around, but he's probably not going to accept a $40k cut in pay to do so.
  18. They should be able to fit Brady in if Walters accepts he'll probably lose Schoen once the bidding for his services goes beyond $200k. Not that Schoen isn't worth it, but they can't keep everyone and attrition of select players to free agency is an accepted reality of running a top team filled with league allstars.
  19. What's the risk with MBT? He's tough as nails and knows how to win games given decent targets and a good running game.
  20. Ted Laurent is available and with age his price might have come down.
  21. Dunrobin's Gone (named after the East Kildonan Ave.) which Chad wrote and sang on is always high on my playlist. We're somewhat related as he was my Aunt's sister's son, real name Allan Kowbel, only met him once at a wedding around 1974, unfortunately I was too young to realize his musical connections at the time.
