  1. We have had much discussion (and threads) about the Bomber's defense ... we had a 5 alarm fire against hamilton ... other games kept us close enough to win (or barely lose) ... now that we have won a few games and the smoke has cleared, and that we have Leggett back, rate Ritchie's defense and tell us what you really think

    Game Day Notes - CFL.ca

    Hamilton @ Montreal

    - Alouettes vs Ti-Cats: Hamilton has won 5 of the last 6 games vs Montréal including a two-game sweep last year. In the last 7 years (2011-2017), Montréal has won the season series over Hamilton just ONCE (2015). Hamilton is 12-8 vs the Als since 2011.

    - Jeremiah Masoli: As a starter in 2018 Masoli is 2-4 but in his career his winning % is .480 at 12-13. Against Montreal he is a perfect 3-0 in his career and he brings a much better road record (9-5) into Montreal than in starts at home (3-8). He has thrown for 300+ yards in 10 of his last 11 games and set a 9-game 300+ streak CFL record earlier on. He went over the 8,000 yard mark last week.

    - Johnny Manziel: Last threw a pass competitively on December 27, 2015 in a 17-13 loss (start) to Kansas City (other than 2018 Spring League). His career stats in the NFL cover 14 games and 8 starts (2-6): 147-for-258 57.0% for 1,675 yards with 7 Ints and 7 TD passes. His longest career completion was for 61 yards to Travis Benajmin on November 15, 2015.

He has logged 6 career CFL games but has yet to see the field (CFL rules for Games Played differ from the NFL).

    - QBs since August 2013: Since Anthony Calvillo's last start (Aug 17/13) here are the starting QB totals by team (incl. this week)

MTL 14 - Neiswander, Marsh, T.Smith, Brink, Crompton, Cato, Glenn, Bridge, Adams, Durant, Willy, Shiltz, Mathews & Manziel

SSK 11 - Durant, Willy, Sunseri, Doege, Joseph, Glenn, B.Smith, Price, Gale, Bridge & Collaros

WPG 9 - Hall, Goltz, Willy, Brohm, Marve, Nichols, D.Davis, Lefevour, Streveler

TOR 8 - Ray, Collaros, T.Harris, Kilgore, Lefevour, Willy, Mathews, Franklin & Bethel-Thompson

HAM 6 - Burris, Collaros, Masoli, Lefevour, Mathews, J.Harris

BC 6 - Lulay, Demarco, Pierce, Glenn, Beck, Jennings

OTT 5 - Burris, T.Harris, Jensen, Tate, Lindley

CGY 4 - Glenn, Mitchell, Tate, Buckley

EDM 3 - Reilly, Nichols, Franklin

    CFL (62)

4 weeks, 4 QBs- a first since 1999: With Johnny Manziel to start at QB, that means that the Als will start a different QB in 4 consecutive games. The last time that any CFL club had 4 different QB starters in a 4-game span was 19 years ago - Edmonton started N.Greene, D.Crowley, M.Crandell & K.Mason across Oct 11-30/99. Across 60 CFL years this 4 in 4 has occurred just 6 times.

    - 1-16 in the last 17 games / 8 in a row at home: The Alouettes have won just once in their last 17 games - the poorest 17-game stretch in their history. They come into this week having lost their last 8 home games - the longest home losing streak in Montreal history and back to 1958 matches the 4th-longest ever home losing streak

Hamilton 1st half vs 2nd half: The Ti-Cats have dominated the 1st half this year and have outscored opponents by 80-52 (+28). In the 2nd half however they have a scoring margin of -33. This is especially in the 4th Quarter where the points count is 23-54 and they have lost five of their six 4th Quarters.

    - Jalen Saunders: Has played 22 career CFL games and is up to 1,706 yards and 111 receptions. He has been extraordinarily consistent with at least 50 yards in 16 of his 22 games. His 2018 pace is to exceed the 1600-yard mark and reach 105 catches.

    - Masoli INTs: Jeremiah Masoli has thrown one interception in each game thus far and leads the CFL with 6 in total. These 6 picks have led to 21 opponent points in 2018.

    - 24:50 TOP: Over their last 5 games, Montreal's average Time of Possession has been just 24:50 versus their opponents' 35:10 - gap of over 10:00 of play. Over that 5-game run, opponents have averaged 17 more plays from scrimmage per game (64 to 47 per game).

    - Simoni Lawrence last 4 games: Lawrence has been Hamilton's leading tackler in 3 of their last 4 games with 27 in total.

    - Henoc Muamba: Leads the CFL with 7 Tackles for Loss thus far, well ahead of the pace to break his own CFL record of 13 (2013). - Ernest Jackson: Over his last 3 games he has just 3 catches for 17 yards on 13 targets.

    - Tyrell Sutton: Last week posted his 2nd-highest receiving total ever with 82 yards on 4 catches (career max? 90 yards Aug 22/14). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Is this your own work or are you getting it from another source?

  3. Our schedule from this bye to our week 14 bye is:

Hamilton, Ottawa, Calgary, then Regina twice

What do you think our record will be by then?

Could we be 8 & 4 by then, sailing high, feeling good, maybe too good?

    Can we beat Calgary?

Will we get revenge on Hamilton?

    Will we finally crush Ottawa?

And most importantly of all, can we sweep Regina?

  4. Irving & Tait 3 keys to the game

    1. Unsettle James Frankli n again, with genuine heat

    2. Bomber's Offence needs to mix up play calling

    3. Contain dangerous Markese Jackson & Kick Coverage

For me, I want to see the mental toughness to put a real opponent into a game long throttling - no letting them get up even once ... I don't want to see us make a come from behind victory .... If the Blue lose I will give my head a shake as a fan and the whole team and coaches should reevaluate life ... we are 3 games behind Calgary with the best O-Line in the league  if not the nastiest

Film study be damned ... I want to see smash mouth football ... dominance ... then I will know we have turned the corner ... we need a feeding frenzy explosion (at long last)

    Go Tenbrell Thompkins!

  5. What is Marc Trestman to do? He can't stand pat or it will be worse than the last game ...

Does he study the Wpg- Hanny game film ... come up with his own version of double tight end formations?

Can he fire up Wilder and make him the primary on 20+ plays? Or does he find a special passing package.

Can he blitz us to death?

Does he bring in QB Bethel Thompson if Franklin doesn't get it done in the first quarter?

It seems on straight smash mouth football we win ... so what is Trestman going to scheme to beat us?

We are not good   at half-time adjustments so how good are we at between game adjustments?

There is a reason back to back sweeps are really difficult ... so what should MOS's strategy be for this upcoming Toronto game?

    Ed Tait:

It’s an issue of killer instinct, which the Bombers have had in abundance in the past. Consider that last year the team was 10-2 when leading after three quarters and are 17-3 when protecting a lead into the fourth over the past two seasons.

    Make that 19-5 now.

    MOS:

“If we have a lead at that point then our players have to learn from the previous couple of experiences that didn’t work out the way we expected it to work out,” said Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea. “It’s all part of the process. The one thing I did say (earlier in the week) is that it’s learned more than anything. It’s about making sure they took the analysis of the previous game and apply it to this game in terms of focus at the end of the game, the refusal to be tired and some of the things you can do with your brain more than physically. The other side is making sure you’re still playing physical through the full 60 minutes or however long the game takes.”

    ME:

I believe many are too pessimistic about the Bomber's chances Saturday ... we have upgraded significantly from last year in both personnel and wisdom ... we just had a brain fart in the second half last week in terms of closing: FORGET ABOUT IT!

Yes we have to work on our soft defensive underbelly but we will solve it ... and if necessary our offense can win a shootout

Paul LaPolice won’t spend too much time second-guessing his play calls, but he has been re-living the club’s short yardage inadequacies from last Saturday. The Bombers were stuffed on a pair of possessions that cost the club a minimum of six points, likely more.

“I do kick myself that one of those two calls at the goal line should have given Andrew (Harris) an opportunity,” he said. “I could have done a better job there. And then at the end of the game we went with a wider wedge that we had seen on film that they didn’t handle well once. We had a change up to it… it didn’t work in our favour. We’ve got to get better and I’ll certainly get better at that.

“I talked to (Harris) yesterday and said, ‘You know what? I can give you one of those two carries, depending on where we are. One of them was at the three-yard line… at the three-yard line I should have gotten you one of those two touches.’

Asked if he might have been inclined to take the two field goals instead, he added:

“We had a second and two in the game where we had a play we wanted to do where we took a shot downfield and we hit it for a (long) gain,” said LaPolice. “If you don’t get that, people are saying, ‘Why aren’t you giving Andrew the ball on second and two?’ In hindsight, you can do all those things. That’s what we decided to do and whatever the coach decides we’ll go ahead and do. We’ve got to be better to win the football game. We weren’t good enough offensively to win the football game. We did a lot of good things, but we can’t turn the ball over like we did and make mistakes like we did.”
