  1. Complainants are not entitled to a presumption of truth. The system is actually in place to allow for presumption of innocence and places a burden of proof on the accuser. I agree that naming the alleged victim can lead to pre-judgment and shaming, but naming a potential accused does the same thing (as some of the comments here have already demonstrated).
  2. Knew this was a Rick Westhead article before I even opened it up.
  3. Bombers were on a 12 games winning streak in 2001 and sitting at 14-2. The Rick Worman offence was all about spreading the ball around. More than one game I recall we had 9 different players with a reception, despite having Milt and Robert Gordon there was no one player who could be keyed on by opposing defences. Charlie was essentially a punt returner that rookie year. Mills did the ground and pound in the first half, with Blount as kick returner and the change of pace back. Roberts would come in as the fresh legs in the fourth quarter to salt the game away against tired defences. Despite the success, Roberts was not happy and seemingly out of the blue he walked out in the club and threatened to quit the team right after win #14 because he was not the feature back. The club relented and convinced him to come back and make changes to the O, but suspended him for the next game as punishment. We lost that game in Toronto and then the following week at home to Calgary, allowing them to sneak in to the playoffs on the last weekend. Our offence never really recovered as Worman went more “Blink heavy” in those remaining games as the main running back. And we all know how that ended up that season. Then a few years later (I want to say 2004, but that may be the wrong year) he posted on Ourbombers as chuckdiesel and basically said he was retiring, again out of the blue. Then yanked the post, but it was already out there in the public domain. Then he got his nose out of joint when the media surrounded him at practice the next time he showed up and asked him about it. Seemed really bothered about the fuss he has caused, and refused to address it beyond “oh I wasn’t going to follow through with it” but did not explain why he posted it in the first place, and why were people making a big deal about what he said? Talent yes, but Milt Stegall said he had zero breakaway speed and would never outrun anyone to the end zone in a straight up sprint because he would be gassed after 20 yards, and unless he had a 15 yard head start he’d be caught from behind. And he just couldn’t keep out of his own way between the ears it seems.
  4. Three straight 5 on 3 power plays had something to do with that.
  5. I feel like we need a hat trick song. Have rolled this out in the past so here it is again, although I am open to suggestions. Other options: ”Lucky One” by Loverboy (a little Can Con for everyone) ”Lucky Star” by Madonna (too bubble gum pop for my taste) ”Leave Your Hat On” by Joe Cocker, or even the kitschy version by Tom Jones (except that is literally the opposite intent once a hat trick occurs).
  6. Best way to deal with dirty play, put it in the net! Yes!!!!!!!! Wow, Jets handling the rough stuff and making sweet plays now. Vilardi, Connor and Scheifele sparking the offence tonight.
  7. Brutally careless pass by Vilardi and Myers makes like Bobby Orr weaving through players, and we are tied again.
  8. Finally a proper instigator penalty after a clean hard check. Tired of this “code” where you have to fight for any body contact.
  9. Nice choice down low by Vilardi on the PP and we are tied 1-1
  10. So 3 factors on the play: Puck over the line? Yes Whistle? Not clear Pushed in? Yes, but arguably Canuck pushed Scheifele into him. But too many “what ifs” I suppose to give the Jets the goal.
  11. A couple of incidents like that. One was when Don Wittman had died and his family was on field for a tribute and a moment of silence. Fans in the student section chanting “Go Bombers go” throughout. You are referencing the Remebrance Day game where someone was chanting during the requested moment of silence for fallen soldiers. Came on Ourbombers saying veterans would applaud him expressing his freedom of speech they fought for instead of being bothered by him not respecting the moment of silence. I think the argument devolved into a debate about whether standing was better than sitting for making noise before said poster conceded they were in the wrong and just attention seeking during the moment of silence and may have been insensitive to the moment. But every fan base has its share of loogans. Some Winnipeggers throw beer cans, some Saskatchewites dump manure on lawns, some Vancouverites and Montrealers riot, some Hamiltonians fight opposing team’s players and coaches, and some Torontonians engage in passive resistance as a form of protest (at least I assume given their conscientious objection to attending games).
  12. I’m pretty confident if I told your veteran parent to go balance a ball on his nose in reference to his service branch, you’d struggle to find the “levity” in that comment, especially since you recognize their sacrifice as you say. If you want to rip a player’s performance, fair game. You want to call out their character for domestic violence, drunk driving, getting busted using steroids, have at it. But no, I’m not going to lighten up because you want to poke fun at someone’s military service by equating it to a circus trick, there’s nothing funny about it, especially as a parting shot.
  13. Nothing like dancing on a guy’s grave on his way out with some cheap pot shots and character assassination of a serviceman. Sometimes I agree that Lyin’ Guy wasn’t far off with his “bunch of assholes” comment. Not upset about the cut from a roster point, but the man came in and did whatever was asked of him and did it competently enough, whatever the assessment of the skill of the position or the utility of the roster spot. And he served his country in the military in an elite service branch that makes him deserving at least of thanks and respect instead of mimicry, and makes him as tough if not tougher IMO than any poster on this site, whether they be ex-football player, gym rat, or keyboard comedian wanting to see circus acts or having a laugh at his expense.
  14. New bodies were what fans on this site were pining for, instead of rolling back the same old vets. We’ll see how that goes this summer.
  15. I thought I read that Brady Oliveira also said the Bombers were pretty quiet about his contract negotiations as well leading up to the tampering week and then Wade Miller got involved and reached out when other offers were coming in.
  16. Maybe they should bring the mentors back for another road trip.
  17. Well I recall certain posters saying that Schoen was fine, moving well, would be in, didn’t need the practice, and even if hurt a bit was valuable enough to dress even as a decoy, so Osh was not alone. Hindsight always 20/20 unfortunately. And with Bailey, Demski, McCrae, BOLO also all beat up, who actually was left to play at receiver if we benched all our hurt players. Sucks but we got bit by the injury bug at the wrong time, had some bad red zone turnovers that cost us, and ran into a team playing over its head at the exact right time of the year for them. Lots of reasons we lost, dressing banged up all-stars was only one of them.
  18. Pretty nice discount he took to stay in Winnipeg. Are people going to forgive him now for his tweet and stop calling him a selfish teammate?
  19. That’s three shutouts against in the last 7 games.
  20. Was waiting for Pittsburgh to challenge.
  21. Given the traffic on this site today, not sure too many of us were actually “working” while at work.
  22. Now I’m judging you for spending your vacation day in the sun staring at a social media chat site.
