  1. Since you brought it up: Until the 2019 West Final in Saskatchewan, this game was the best one I ever saw live. Like a true heavyweight fight, trading punches in a game with a rare south wind, but one that was so intense scoring into it was impossible. So many “almost” chances, especially the cross bar preventing the Bombers their lone TD chance. And if video review existed back then the Bombers win. The lone Baltimore TD was a fumble recovery when Woodside’s knee was clearly down before the ball came out, and Pringle fumbled late and the refs called the play down when it wasn’t. Add in the messed up fake field goal (Cameron was spotting the tee and was not in the huddle to hear that the fake was on, so he was the only one not to know what the play was. Westwood would score his only career TD the following year on the same fake call, this time executed perfectly) and this loss stung. Toss in the “illegal shoe” call (which was more galling following the Edmonton playoff debacle two years later where the Esks got away with blatantly cheating in the same fashion) and Cal Murphy said this was the toughest loss he ever had as a coach - one he never got over. The only game I have been physically exhausted after watching, it was that mentally draining to be at, cheering madly but in the end just not quite enough to carry the team to victory.
  2. Watching the PP be say an Edmonton on Tuesday, the movement is so different. The Jets get into their set positions and try the pass, whereas whoever had the puck for the Oilers would be constantly in motion even if not passing the puck or driving the net. That constant motion makes it hard for the penalty kill to establish their box, or diamond, or whatever. So if the Jets’ passing is not fast and crisp, it’s so much easier for a defender to get into a lane, or force the long point shot by cutting off other passes. JMO.
  3. When we officially get there (and I am on record saying it will happen! - just won’t say when, lol) I will be sure to announce it.
  4. We have not clinched yet. Based on our current points total and the projected points that St. Louis will collect by season’s end (estimated by using their current winning percentage over a full season) we have likely accrued enough points already to get in, but it is not official yet. So far, only the NY Rangers have officially clinched a playoff spot.
  5. Saw the Beeman’s gum ad on the sidelines, almost forgot about that big time corporate sponsor for TSN. Anyone who dislikes the repetitive Save-On food commercials today would be gouging their eyes out at the lame Beeman’s spots that ran ad nauseum that season.
  6. Fans of the Winnipeg Jets counts their magic number in wins, so their “3” is actually the same as my “6” in points. I feel mine is more accurate as points can be gathered without actually winning, so saying they need a combo of 3 wins or opponent losses is not truly accurate. Us stats junkies take the precision of this kind of triviality seriously!
  7. Note that my magic number is points, not wins, since you can clinch with something like an overtime loss.
  8. Given the picture of two stoners who love marijuana, that could mean any of 24 teams from the Provinces or States where it is legal, but I’d lean to Seattle or Colorado who started it all 😉
  9. Hoped for a better result, not not disappointed in their play today. They had the better chances on the first, dominated the second, looked good on the penalty kill and almost got through the one where the goal happened. Fluky bounce on the second one, so they really only got burned on the third goal with a bad read by Samberg when they were pressing. Even with the goals, play was pretty even in the third 5 on 5 I’m not quitting on this team yet.
  10. And a fluky bounce makes it 2-0 Caps. Jets really deserving a better fate right now.
  11. Lindgren giving up rebounds but the Jets can’t their sticks on it.
  12. Jets doing everything but scoring, and the Caps get a last second PP goal after a wishy-washy slash call on Scheifele.
  13. Good kill on that penalty. Nice pace by both teams, Jets getting some chances on the rush. Baby steps.
  14. You wait until game 68 to declare the Jets as a legit team, then take all of two games to go back to “I am done watching them”. You whine about Kyle Connor never being pulled away from Scheifele’s line, now he is and you still complain. It’s like you can’t be content unless you are unhappy about everything this team does. And anything short of a Cup win will be a failed season. Which is a miserable way to live your life a fan. Yes the last two losses sucked, but big picture this team is still in pace for 109 points in arguably the toughest division in the league. Given what the projections were last summer, things are pretty good now. The success of the season does not erase the concerns of the last few losses, but the stink of the past 72 hours does not diminish the positive steps the team has made. Perspective. And maybe let’s see how the change you pined for works out before saying “useless” as a default negative take. Rant over, go Jets go!
  15. Was going back in the schedule to remember the last time the Jets lost a “good” game, that is did not look outplayed and outclassed or uncompetitive. Maybe the Seattle loss at home, but more likely the OT loss in Toronto. That was 2 months and 11 losses ago. That is what concerns me, that they get down and look disinterested or show no fight in these losses, not scrapping for OT loser points.
  16. Pull Hellebuyck to protect him. No help today. This makes that Vancouver loss look like a masterpiece by comparison.
  17. Special game time: high noon TSN3 The story: first of back-to-backs, this is the “game in hand” the Jets have over Colorado and Dallas, as they try to jump from 3rd back to 1st in the Central. Isles are 4 points out of a playoff spot.
  18. True that. Open question for everyone, how important do you see finishing first in the Central to be? Any of Dallas, Colorado, or Winnipeg is a strong Cup contender, and one of them is going home after round one due to a brutal division match-up, but with the wild card team right now being a white hot Predators team and the defending Cup champs and their soon to be $100 million playoff roster, are there really any easy outs or preferred opponents in round one? If I was to rank opponents from the current playoff teams, not sure who I’d fear least (LA I suppose), but Dallas sticks out to me as a team I would rather avoid - they seem to have the blueprint on how to shut the Jets down. Thoughts? Maybe this needs its own thread.
  19. Last night’s game was, in a word, frustrating. - because the passes were not crisp, be it the lousy ice, warm bouncy pucks, or whatever other excuse you want to throw out there, or just plain lack of focus - because except of 10 minutes in the back half of the second period the Jets were not playing with speed or focus -because any zone time gained was not generating shots or quality shot chances -because we did not look desperate against a team that had no reason to be desperate themselves, and bottom line got out worked by a team that does not have near our talent - that our bad special teams, which cost us in the first two months of the year, reared it’s ugly head again -that we wasted another strong performance by our back-up goalie by offering almost zero support either offensively or defensively - that we squandered an opportunity to gain ground in a time where every point is crucial in a tough battle to get first place in the division -that an effort like this follows right on the heels of a game that shows what we are capable of at our best Anyway, can’t change the past, and no point wallowing after game 69 of 82. Need a good kick in the pants and be ready to come out hard Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is our game in hand on the Avs and Stars, better make the most of it.
