It was inevitable. We may 3-4 open positions on our entire roster for NAT players realistically. If we were to draft ready to go players we would be releasing 2-3 really good NAT players with 2 draft classes coming in the same year. Other teams will all be in that same boat too. This is a year that can see some teams close the disparity gap between the NAT haves and have not teams because a higher proportion than normal good draft picks will be getting their walking papers because they just aren't ready to displace the NAT vet ahead of them. Take a team like Hamilton who has 6 top 20 draft picks over the past 2 years and already really good NAT talent, how do they roster them all if they all come to camp this year. Sometimes you just don't have a choice but to take futures from an asset management POV.

Dobson flat out said that he will pursue the NFL so I'm not sure where you get the notion that he exuded confidence at being blue and gold. He said all the right things after being drafted and was very complimentary to the Bombers but he made it very clear he desires to play the highest level of football he can. That doesn't mean he is a shoe-in for the NFL, but he will keep that option open as long as he can. He is a very similar type of pick to Dakoda Shepley imo.

For sure. Lots of competition for Neufeld's spot though. Gray, and Eli are not chopped liver. I agree. I view the Dobson pick as very risky. The NFL loves to keep a lot of OL around a lot longer than any other position. Dobson is a guy we may never see. Far riskier than DB future picks. In my mind this pick is just a hair less risky than a pick that we destroyed Joe Mack about.....Andy Mulumba.

Love and hate the Dobson pick....but closer to loving it. He is a bluechipper. Best OL in the drsft and has a mean streak a mile long. I dont mind taking the futures approach to the 1st 2 rounds.

There is zero chance that 38 million Canadians will be vaccinated by September. We could have 100 million doses available and we won't get that kind of vaccine uptake ever. I am hoping we can get 70% of Canadians immunized and I think the government will have to be heavy handed with no-vax restrictions to achieve that. There are just too many people who are being down right stupid on the whole vaccination process. The last 10-15% to herd immunity will be a trickle and will only be coming in kicking and screaming because they don't have a vax ID card or vax passport. At a time we are entering the 3rd wave caused primarily by a dangerous variant we have a lot AZ just sitting on the shelves. If the current state of our pandemic doesn't inspire people to go get it I don't foresee the vaccine hesitancy getting any better when case numbers fall.

I am of two minds on this whole police racism thing. Part of me is appalled by any racist behavior on the part of police, particularly when it manifests itself in a tragedy or excessive use of force. The other part of me wonders how much of it is actually racism though as opposed to just a cop using excessive force and exercising extremely poor judgement. Let's face it, the reality is that 90% of police calls come from socio-economic disadvantaged areas of their jurisdiction. When 90% of your time is spent in areas that are predominantly populated by black, native, or other visible minorities due to the fact that statistically they have large communities of economic disadvantage and therefore crime, then that is where the poor policing is most likely to occur. I'm not sure if this behavior is overtly racist, just bully police officers who finally get their chance to be bullies.

I like both of those ideas, but realistically as a struggling ex-smoker, I still feel very strongly about government stepping in on the nicotine issue. Most smokers are completely aware of the effects of their choice to smoke. Quitting would become exponentially easier if the tobacco/vaping companies were forced to gradually decrease nicotine levels in their products. Couple that with what was described above and some meaningful change might occur. I think big tobacco must be paying for some of these studies on how to reduce smoking because by far the largest impediment to decreasing smoking is nicotine addiction....anyone who smokes and has quit or has failed to quit will tell you that. Only a very small % of smokers do so because they actually enjoy it. They may enjoy the cigarette because of the nicotine relief they get but nearly no one will tell you that the flavor and sensation of smoking tobacco is addictive.

If governments were in any way serious about meaningful reductions in smoking they could and would have done it already. The answer has been there and medical associations have been lobbying for years to no avail for governments to set limits on nicotine in products with a gradual reduction year to year until nicotine is eliminated from all products. There would still be segment of social smokers but the vast majority of people would simply just stop smoking or very significantly reduce their smoking without the cravings telling them to reach for their pack every 20 minutes. It's easy and very low cost to the cigarette manufacturers. I am an ex smoker that has quit and started and quit a few time already. Without the nicotine I would have zero issues with quitting even if I relapsed and had a few smokes one day. It seems insane in this day and age that we allow big tobacco to keep and even enhance the amount of the nicotine in their products

It's no surprise that there is vaccine hesitancy. Most of that can be probably attributed to the absolute garbage being regurgitated on social media. Most people of even average intelligence know that social media is a swamp land of misinformation, unfortunately half the people are of below average intelligence and gobble up every meme and bit of ridiculousness with fervor as if it were the truth.

Wrong. The last residential school in Manitoba closed in 1989. Also, the Indian day schools continued well into the 90's. Choose to be violent...absolutely. Do you honestly think that there is an excuse for violent behavior or that the "system" taught them this? It didn't. I know because I lived it. No one chooses to be victims of violent crime. Lack of enforcement and punishment have contributed greatly to this, I am not for one second suggesting that rates are completely unrelated to socio-economic circumstance....they are. Poverty is a beyotch and helping these people out of it needs to be a priority. However, these communities are not well served when violent criminals, drug dealers, and gang members are slapped on the wrist and returned to the community. That is just straight up fact.

Repeal the Indian Act. That would be a great first step to helping indigenous people out of poverty. When you don't/can't own the house and property you live on when living on reserve it becomes very difficult to build assetts and accumulate wealth both personally and from generation to generation.

I didn't go to school in the 90's. Also, I don't excuse any violent crime perpetrated on others for socio-economic reasons. I know too many really good people that struggle on the daily with poverty and racism to give scumbags who use it as an excuse a free pass. A lot of my family lives on a northern reserve and they are good and honest people and I know the vast majority of my friends and family who actually live these conditions wish that society wouldn't accept a two tiered justice system. The meth and coke dealers, the gangs, the violent crimes are all a part of their daily lives and then when these guys are arrested they are sent right back out to do it again because they are deemed a victim of circumstance and they terrorize these communities over and over again. Excusing this behavior is not right. These people prey on the weak and vulnerable and they know full well what they are doing. When you lose a family member or a close friend to a scumbag that should have been in jail already then you might understand. These communities have life losses like this on a weekly basis either directly or indirectly because the political correct crowd seems to be winning their battle for a multi-tiered justice system. I've lived it and watched it in my formative years, and was lucky and industrious enough to work my way out, can you say the same?

I agree. As a society we need to stop making excuses for inexcusable acts. I empathize with all victims of oppression, hate, prejudice, poverty etc but my empathy for criminals trying to excuse their behavior based on these factors is quite literally approaching an all time low. Somewhere along the line our societal shift towards political correctness has opened up a gaping hole for scum to crawl through and this chasm only widens the more this insanity continues. A criminal act is a criminal act, we need to stop reflecting the factors that contributed to it into the sentences and punishments. I don't give a crap about what kind of upbringing a person had, they know that murder and violence is wrong.

Not sure why they wouldn't tax EVs for power consumption in Saskatchewan. A lot of collective ignorance and bias emerging in this thread. Saskatchewan has to buy a large portion of it's electricity because it cannot generate enough of it's own for existing infrastructure nevermind the countless billions that will be needed to upgrade the grid and supply for future EV use. Not sure why the Libs here think it's a swipe by their province to try and recover some of that cost through taxation. Infrastructure will be the biggest impediment to an eventual conversion to electric or preferably hydrogen conversion and it makes sense to start the process of collecting the necessary funds to make that happen. Typical Liberals....we have a plan but no plan on how to pay for it and when someone does something proactive they are the right wing boogeyman.
