  1. @NicholsOnHockey: Dreger: Cheveldayoff has been working the phones, trying to drum up interest. #NHLJets in the market for preferably top-6 forward.
  2. Isnt that really the big question? Because if we have dictators with iron grips on their territory keeping the crazies at bay, but committing human rights atrocities against its own people not to mention thumbing their noses at the civilized world, trying to create WMD and plotting assassinations, would there not always be the eventual call to over-throw them/kill them? Living with vile dictators in place because they keep the real crazy people in check is a tough compromise to make.
  3. I briefly caught a story where a media person (I think) went over-seas and bought fake credentials including a Syrian passport. He was provided with a passport with his picture and the name of a Syrian who had died. I cant recall where I saw it (too lazy to search right now). Another "reasonable" cause for concern.
  4. Moose sign kelly zajac
  5. So here is a question a bit off-topic but someone related. If these attacks happen one month earlier, does it impact the Canadian election and how so?
  6. Saw that. Awful. Shows how quick media are to use unconfirmed information.
  7. Two-thirds of Canadians are in favour of extending the current Canadian Forces mission against ISIS in Iraq, according to an exclusive poll for Global News. The Global News/Ipsos Reid poll found 66 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they agreed with the Conservative government’s intent to extend the mission past its current end date next month. Respondents who indicated they vote for the Liberals showed the second-highest support for a mission extension, but far less than Conservative respondents, with 67 per cent saying they strongly or somewhat agree with an extension. ***Even a majority of NDP voters agree.
  8. Long range forecast is -8 and sunny for Grey Cup.
  9. (CNN)The Russian passenger jet that crashed over Sinai, Egypt, was brought down by a bomb estimated to contain 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of explosives, the head of the Russian Federal Security Service said Tuesday, and the Russian government is offering a $50 million reward for information about those who brought it down. The government had initially resisted the theory that the plane fell victim to terrorism, perhaps in retaliation for Russia's support of the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. But in a turnaround, the government is offering the reward, according to the official Sputnik news. Also on Tuesday, a U.S. defense official said Russia had conducted a "significant number of strikes" in Raqqa in northern Syria in the past several hours. The terrorist group ISIS, which has claimed responsibility for downing the plane, has made its Syrian headquarters in Raqqa. ***I wonder if this will embolden the west and Russia to work more closely on attacking ISIS. Im not familiar with Russia's track record on military operations but might they put less importance on minimizing civilian casualties? In other words, could Russia gladly blow ISIS out of the desert?
  10. I was just discussing it on another forum. Its really goofy. For those that dont know what we're talking about, WWE went with a "Contract Signing" between Paige and "Divas" Champion Charlotte as the main event of RAW. Charlotte mentioned her father (Ric Flair) and little brother Reid who died of a drug over-dose in the early stages of his pro wrestling career. Paige responded by insulting Ric and saying "You're little brother didnt put up much of a fight did he?" (Or something to that effect) which was supposed to be the big shocking climax, leading to a brawl (they never did sign the contract). As a segment, I didnt hate it. I thought it added heat and importance to the match. Its a shame really, that an average at best segment is considered really good. The talk is mostly surrounding the decision to use Reid's OD death in an angle. To me, the bigger problem is that they did it so poorly. They take for granted that the whole world knows everything about wrestling. I didnt even think they put Ric over very strongly in the segment. The true story is that Reid wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps. It was his dream to be a pro wrestler. He died and Charlotte entered WWE developmental to live her brother's dream. Thats all true. But they take for granted everyone knows it. You cant have a heel tear someone down without first building them up. They have video of Reid. if they wanted to use Reid in an angle (and I would suspect Reid wouldnt mind) they should have presented it a lot better. But ofcourse they dont really want to talk about drug overdoses. They want their cake and to eat it too. It doesnt help that the Divas in particular are terribly over-scripted. The use of "Diva" is unbelievably passe. I think WWE wanted to capitalize on the media surrounding Rousey/Holm and thats why they put the segment last and needed a climax. The questions are, who's idea was it to use Reid's death, did Charlotte and Ric okay it, did they really want to do it (okaying it because it's a main event segment that your boss wants to do is different from actually being okay with it). Reid's mom tweeted her disgust with it so neither Charlotte or Ric gave her the heads up (or they did and she still hated it). I actually thought RAW was decent. Owens/Neville was tremendous. Owens might be the best performer they've got right now. Cesaro carried Roman to a pretty good match too. Even the silly Undertaker stuff, which I know a lot of fans hated, I was fine with. It's the right use of Kane and Taker now, barring one last "dream" match for Taker (against whom, Im not sure).
  11. Not sure. But I would suspect it falls somewhere in the middle of the respect shown Prime Minister Harper around here.
  12. Anyone catch RAW and the "controversial" main event angle?
  13. Brad Wall asking the Shiny Pony to rethink his campaign promise regarding allowing the Syrian flood of unvetted refugees into Canada. Will the Shiny Pony do that and look uncool to all of his selfie admirers at the G20 conference? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/sask-premier-brad-wall-asks-ottawa-to-suspend-syrian-refugee-plan-1.3321159 Wall sums up how a lot of people feel: "I understand that the overwhelming majority of refugees are fleeing violence and bloodshed and pose no threat to anyone," wrote Wall. "However, if even a small number of individuals who wish to do harm to our country are able to enter Canada as a result of a rushed refugee resettlement process, the results could be devastating."
  14. This is interesting An English-language audio recording allegedly produced by Islamic State militants taking responsibility for and celebrating the Paris attacks sounds like it’s voiced by a Canadian, some experts say. The recording, released in the wake of Friday’s deadly coordinated attacks that left 129 people dead, was issued in Arabic, French and English. The English version, which runs almost six minutes, features a man’s voice and sounds slickly produced — typical of the ISIS propaganda machine. The reader’s pronunciation of several words including “out,” “houses,” “vice,” “sniper” and “fighters” “all sound very Canadian,” Charles Boberg, associate professor in McGill University’s linguistics department, wrote in an email.
  15. I actually feel like some of this knee jerk. I don't want people that need help and want to be a part of an inclusive sociery to be unduly punished but the more this continues it is something Trudeau will have to respond to with something that invokes confidence in Canadians (CNN)More than half the nation's governors -- 26 states -- say they oppose letting Syrian refugees into their states, although the final say on this contentious immigration issue will fall to the federal government. States protesting the admission of refugees range from Alabama and Georgia, to Texas and Arizona, to Michigan and Illinois, to Maine and New Hampshire. Among these 26 states, all but one have Republican governors.
  16. How about Malkin for ???
  17. I didn't watch much but online chatter is top line was good but second line wasn't. Did Ladd bring it down? Is Ehlers just not polished enough?
  18. @MarkSKrikorian: Flashback: These two Iraqi terrorists were thoroughly vetted refugees https://t.co/KNqY03bs0Q @MarkSKrikorian: Flashback: This Islamist terrorist from Uzbekistan was approved by the tough refugee screening process https://t.co/pbD6Hior8q @MarkSKrikorian: Flashback: The Tsarnayev brothers were thoroughly vetted refugees too https://t.co/lWRalLJ6HR
  19. I appreciate that.
  20. @CBCAlerts: #Trudeau 'disturbed' by #PeterboroughMosque fire. Says Muslim-Canadians contribute 'enormously' to Canada and such acts won't be tolerated.
  21. Regulate the industry. Including pricing.
  22. There's a difference between very good and elite. If a player is a bonafide, undoubtable top line player in his position on every single team (barring those with another elite player at the same position) he might make the cut I'm not sure Ladd is a 1LW on every team. Not even sure he is on the Jets.
  23. Isn't the argument that higher prices pay for increased research? It's a tough thing. We live in a society where we would love health care and drugs to be cheap and available but someone has to pay the enormous costs associated with research and development. Not saying that's what this is. But it's an interesting conversation nonetheless.
  24. Spoke too soon A special weather statement is in effect for all of southern Manitoba, including the city of Winnipeg. After a string of warmer weather, winter is getting ready to strike. An intense low pressure system with a strong cold front will sweep across the province Wednesday afternoon, bringing an abrupt end to the mild November weather. Behind the cold front, temperatures will plummet to what is actually normal for this time of year with overnight lows in the minus double digits. Alongside falling temperatures, blustery northwest winds are expected with 60 gusting to 90 km/h likely. The flurries accompanying the winds will reduce visibility at times. Conditions will improve Thursday night as winds begin to diminish.
