  1. To me, Kane looks like a guy that has a big breakout season coming soon.  For all the criticisms of how he does it, the guy creates a lot of offence.  Let's face it there are worse things a guy could be doing than possessing the puck in the opponent's end and shooting it too much.  Would love to see him get a full season with #55 and #26.

Watching him score 300 goals for someone else over the next 8 years is my big fear.

Having said that, they can't come back with the same core again next year...

  2. Something Lawless mentioned while discussing this on H&L yesterday was the Press Box.  Obviously, it needs to be upgraded and they are doing so at a cost of $350,000.  David Asper is footing the bill.  It was origionally going to be a sponsorship deal with his new hotel (I believe the one at P&M) but since they are not proceeding with that project, he is simply paying for the construction.  Lawless said "adding it to his corporate suite bill".

Alot of anti-Asper rhetoric out there and while I understand some of it (and dont intend to start an Asper debate) no one can say David isn't a very, very good friend to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Good for him.

    And the Bisons.

When it comes to this team's draft record, Taman and Kelly also bear some responsibility, not just Mack. Horrible, horrible drafting (as far as o-line). Some guys like Henoc and even Watson were no brainers IMO ...

I love how people discredit every good selection made by Mack. There were tons of people that wanted guys like Sisco and Scott Mitchell picked over Watson and Henoc.

The problem is those were the only two good selections.  Either way, we are moving forward now and Kyle should be judged based on what happens from now out, not by what we think happened or want to believe happened during previous drafts.

  4.

Was he one of the guys insinuated to have "quit" on the team?

It didn't seem like it. Chad Simpson was definitely one, and I was thinking Matthews was another but given our strong interest in bringing him back I'd guess not.

Matthews was still with the team cheering on the sidelines at home games so I'm thinking he was in the good books.

  5. My thoughts.

Bye week in the final week of the season is sort of weird.

Also, the Saturday games during hockey season are now at night so double header with the Jets chances are increased since the Jets usually play Saturday home games in the day.  I've always suspected True North doesn't like those double headers so we'll see how that plays out.

  6.

There seems to be universal agreement around the league that we paid too much for Moore. I read in the Vancouver Province this morning that he's getting $185k/yr plus the use of a car.

Maybe, but he's our property now. I'm not going to curse him for making a couple thousand too much if he scores touchdowns in bunches.

I think it's probably fair to say that if you're a free agent and more than one team wants you, you're overpaid.

What I used to say when everybody in Bomberland called every FA overpaid is there's no such thing.  A contract signed as recently as yesterday is the very definition of market value.  Not that I think this is a slam dunk signing.  Just sort of the cost of doing business.

  7. Devil's Advocate...

Moore left a good situation for an uncertain one for $15,000.  Greg Carr?

Just saying you have a place where the QB and coaches trust you in a fairly stable successful environment and you leave for a little more money.  It could work out great or maybe not.  Big risk on his part.

Glad he did it though.  Hopefully it works out better for us then it did for Edmonton when they signed Carr.

  8. Gonna be some anxious moments out east come July.  At least we had the old stadium to use in 2012.

no kidding.  Assuming it all works out I actually like the idea of the first game being a real game rather than a preseason tilt.  But to say this far out the stadium won't be ready June 14th but will be ready two or three weeks later is not a good sign.

  9.

With how big the new regime appears to be on leadership, Emry's got a good chance to suit up for the Blue and Gold.  Would love him and Bourke; but I'd take Laurent in a pinch if Bourke is re-signed.

The more I think about it though, the more I like the idea of our secondary getting a makeover.  Hefney left last year, Jovon and Stewart look to be on the outs now.  Suber, Washington, and Sears were gamers.  If we were to throw Banks and Pat Watkins in there, the young guys could make a big improvement.  Butler would help too... but not as much of an impact as Watkins would make.

Emry is one of the biggest tools in the league.  Even as a veteran he takes incredibly stupid, selfish penalties.  Add health concerns with concussions and spotty play, I don't think the market for him will be all that strong.

If we got Ferri and Emry after some of the things Bomber fans have said about them over the years that would be amusing to say the least.

I'm hoping for Butler.  (amongst the realistic options).

  10.

it's FA rights for FA rights correct? so if you don't think you're going to extend Jay Detain that's fine, but man if he goes to the riders and plays well there will be questions asked.

More like questions being asked if we just lost Etienne for nothing and he played well elsewhere, don't you think?

Well no I'm thinking more along the lines of if Etienne plays well somewhere else then why couldn't he do it here? Would raise a hell of a lot of questions about a lot of things don't you think? Like I said I don't mind trading FA for FA if you don't expect to sigh the guy but if the Bombers so totally gave up on/ never gave a chance to Etienne and he winds up working out where he plays next then it raises a lot of serious questions.

They gave him way more chance than anybody else would have if they didn't have so much credibility invested in him.  If he wasn't the 4th overall pick selected 3 rounds before he should have been he would have been cut in his first mini-camp.

He also wouldn't have been inserted into the game day roster to stand on the sidelines and not play special teams.

We also wouldn't have lost McHenry to try save face by keeping Jade on the roster.

We also would have given Rory more meaningful playing time earlier.

If he goes on to contribute in Sask it's a credit to his perseverance and Sask's system and surrounding talent.  But you can't say he didn't get his chances here.

  11. Quite honestly, I have no idea how you come to your conclusions regarding offensive linemen.

I'd love to hear your expanded analysis on why a guy like Baboulas is a better OL than Sorenson.

If people are going to have to start backing up their O Line related opinions with expanded analysis we are going to have some very short threads around here.
