Yes mike by Buck didn't suck. Post game show guys agree. He was under fire all night. At this point QB is going to have success or last very long on this team.

I was disappointed buck wasn't better but when you have four guys in your face all night what can you do.

Goltz looks worse. We really are starting from scratch. Two games hall gets hurt. This team is jinxed.

As soon as the first guy out of the tunnel to open IGF fell, we were done.

You have got to be kidding me.

TUP...what is up with your man crush on Buck?  Are you his personal stalker?  Do you have 5000 pictures of him posted on your wall in your room....all pictures taken by you with a zoom camera of course.

  2. Pretty funny if Jyles ends up here and buck gets cut.

I thought Burke was saying no to porter but the way he corrected himself perhaps he was going to lie and corrected himself

Don't really get how it's Porter.  He's not really a "vet" considering he's never been a starter in this league and didn't Burke say he was bringing in a Vet?

Maybe he's bringing in Porter as well as another Vet QB?

  3.

Good I hope they bring in 10 QBs. Once we go through them all maybe they will realize the oline is the problem! At one point in the second 4 Hamilton defenders walked through the line untouched.....4!!! It's like it was a magic trick.

When teams are blitzing 8 guys, someone is not going to be blocked.  That's not going to change until we put in a QB who can make a throw.

    We need hot routes.

We need hot players too.  :D

Higgins would be in the deep part of the shallow end we've been fishing in for coaching hires.

My preference would be to pay what it takes and give title to someone who deserves it and is the best candidate available.  Hard to know what the chances of that happening are, but you see the guys like Milanovich (the Dickenson of 2010) turn down interviews here because they know that they won't get paid a top CFL head coaching salary and that they won't have the conditions in place to do their job properly.  Hopefully this doesn't happen to us this time around.

So pay them GM/HC money and surround them with player personnel guys, assistant GM,s and experienced coordinators....no problem, which what many of us have been saying since day one.

Something I finally agree with you on.  Higgins would be the perfect GM/HC IMO.

  5. Who cares about all this, anyway? Honestly, can anyone know that Goltz or Hall can't put up Reilly-like numbers in their 9th CFL start?

Maybe if Hall plays the rest of the year and is still putting up 200-yard games, we should return to this argument. But we're still not talking about a Ricky Ray or Henry Burris. We're talking about MIKE FRICKIN' REILLY -- a QB who is just now starting to find his groove as a CFL QB.

(And in this city, especially with the coaching we have -- which we would've had if Mack had somehow, miraculously brought Reilly to Winnipeg -- Reilly would've probably been replaced at starting QB putting up the numbers he did in his first 5 games in Edmonton. Because we don't give our QBs time to grow anymore. We release them or swap them out after a few mediocre games.)

Where did I say he was a good qb? Was he a better qb then Dinwiddie, abso-f'ning-lutely. Jacquie made the mistake of trying to say Bishop/Jackson were subpar qbs in comparison to Dinwiddie when in fact both of those guys did a lot more in the CFL then he did. In the grand scheme of things Bishop was a guy all athelete no brains , but hey at least he had an arm, was durable, and could at least run a bit.

The point I was trying to make actually was that having a strong arm doesn't mean a guy will be a top QB. Yes Bishop and Jackson had more success that Dinwiddie but there are also QBs who weren't overly blessed with arm strength who have had a lot more success than Bishop and Jackson.

Doug Flutie immediately comes to mind.

That's the exact name that came to my mind when I read Jacquie's post.  But he was also magic...don't forget that.  Magic and dreamy.

...sorry what were we talking about?

  7. I don't think it's that ISO.  I'm not a Joe Mack supporter but I think he made the right move.  Reilly wanted Edmonton and Mack stated the facts.  Even if we got him, he'd have big leverage and could leave anyway.  It would have been stupid for him to even try to go after him.  Now Glenn on the other hand...that's another story.

In any case Blitzmore is right...we're just beating a dead horse here.  We don't have Reilly or Glenn, so there's no point arguing over why they aren't here.  The question is, what can we do now.

  8.

Mike, c'mon dude. The Lions offered Reilly to Winnipeg. Mack said no. Yes, the conditions were different than Edmonton, I'll grant  you that but Mack didn't want to give up a first rounder.

The Lions didn't offer Reilly to anyone.

They offered the rights to Reilly with the ability to negotiate prior to a deal to Edmonton.

They offered the rights to Reilly with no ability to negotiate prior to a deal to Winnipeg.

    There is a HUGE difference.

Ah Mike you are correct.  I remembered wrong.  It was that they wouldn't let Mack speak to him.  Here's the link in the FREEP.  I agree with Mack on his decision in this case, and I was never a Mack fan.

Reilly to EDM was in the books before WPG was even a participant. Argument is a non starter.

Again, we really don't know that to be true. An offer was made by Wally to get Reilly to Joe Mack. Mack refused. So Reilly was traded to Edmonton. If he would have been traded to Winnipeg then he could have done the deal as Reilly wasn't a free agent yet & still under contract to the Bombers. Was it a risk? Yes, surely. A HUGE risk & making that trade would have been ballsy because of it but considering where our first round pick is now, I'd have done it. And made bloody sure I signed him. We absolutely do not know if Reilly preferred Edmonton over Winnipeg. They traded for him & got the deal done. We weren't privy & never will be to the discussions in Mack's office, so all total speculation about that. We don't know what was said. Bottom line, that Reilly was the best opportunity to try & fix the mess at qb we have now. Not doing anything has resulted in a losing team as well as a scorcehed Earth battlefield with Bomber managemnt & coaching.... So, maybe the risk Mack took was really standing pat. In the end, doing the deal or not doing the deal cost people their jobs. The repercussions are still going on. I'd like to believe that it was out of Joe's hands but c'mon.... Looking at how he's done business in the past, I find that hard to believe.

So then please explain why the following two things occurred ...

a ) Wally refused to let Winnipeg talk shop with Reilly prior to a trade, but allowed Edmonton to

b ) Reilly did not opt to wait until free agency before signing a deal in order to maximize his earnings

According to what we know it came down to two things... One, the Lions wanted a first rounder from us but a second rounder from Edmonton. And he signed with the Esks virtually minutes after he was obtained in a trade from the Lions. To me, it came down to Mack not believing that fixing the qb mess was worth a first rounder which I find unbelievable. He overvalued Buck & Goltz & undervalued Elliott & Brink which was a mistake. He also dod not want to pay & therefore take a risk on Reilly. According to the way it supposedly went down, Wally offered Mack Reilly & he said no. His choice. Look what has happened since.

Are you turning a blind eye to the facts in this story on purpose or are you just doing it to frustrate me?

The single biggest thing about the difference in negotiations between BC/WPG and BC/EDM is that Edmonton had permission to talk to Reilly and we didn't. But you keep ignoring that every single time.

    Why?

Mike, c'mon dude. The Lions offered Reilly to Winnipeg. Mack said no. Yes, the conditions were different than Edmonton, I'll grant  you that but Mack didn't want to give up a first rounder.

No that's wrong.  The Lions did not offer Reilly to Winnipeg for the first round pick.  They offered that Mack could TALK to Reilly for the first round pick.  So Mack would have had to give a first round just to talk to Reilly and he still may have gone to Edmonton.  Mack said no.

  10. What else would you call him?  He's a walking injury waiting to happen that they made into the starter.  So instead of grooming someone who's not a walking concussion and giving them the reps (I won't even go into the fact that I think his numbers suck considering he is a vet), they started him off at the beginning of the season and he takes reps away from someone they could have started grooming right away.

  11. He's either waiting to try out for the NFL or waiting to see what happens with the Bombers.  If we start winning I bet he stays, if we don't he'll probably jump ship.  He wants to be on a Grey cup contender team just like everyone else.

...OR Bluto went and ruined our chances by convincing his mom and dad that they should talk him into joining the Ti-Cats or Argo's.  Bastid!

  12. If there's one thing I like already it's that Wade is clearly defining everyone's roles. When asked if he was going to get involved with depth chart decisions he said nope, not my job, that's up to Kyle and Tim. I got from that that if Kyle makes a mess of things going forward, he simply won't be the General Manager. He won't get the job if he's a screwup.

Exactly.  Wade is a businessman.  He doesn't have time to stick his nose into everything and micro manage.  So if someone isn't doing their job, it's adios to them, and he'll replace them with someone who can.  Most good managers don't like to micro manage, and if they do have to stick their noses in stuff, then they get very irritable...and Wade looks like he can get irritable fast.  I thought he was going to pound some of those reporters in that press conference they had with the stupid questions they were asking.

  13. This is one of the reasons we haven't developed a QB. We have to give them time. Maybe Goltz pans out, maybe he doesn't. But you are going to have to play him more to find out.

Exactly, and put a decent Oline in front of him.  I think he will pan out.  I think he's just making some rookie mistakes right now, but with experience that will go way.  He's got a nice strong arm and and is really mobile.  He's got the tools, he just needs some coaching and experience.
