  1. Looks like the Bombers are holding a press conference for 11am.  I'm guessing this is to announce the dismissal of Joe Mack.

The @WPG_BlueBombers will hold a news conference at 11am ET. Details to come. #CFL

Thanks for sharing. If that's the case, at least Mack doesn't have to spend all weekend with the axe hovering over his head. If the leak was meant to force the BoD's hand... mission accomplished.

  2. It's all there complete with double negatives...so no trying again...doesn't make much sense

Aha I see, it's really just missing emphasis and quotations... Burke doesn't literally know 'nothing' about an offense, rather he leaves it in the hands of people who (presumably) know more.

Or: Tim Burke knows vastly more about an offense than he claims and only lacks experience as a coordinator... even though he has been quoted saying he knows 'nothing' about an offense. And I'm sure that's obvious to you, so I don't know why you would take him so literally.

  3. You know, Tim seems like a nice guy there kind of relaxed & joking but he really seems clueless. Seems to him all we have to do is wait for Justin to figure things out & we're off to  the  races. Whoo hoo didn't know it was that easy. C'mon Justin get your **** together &  it's a Grey Cup parrrtay fer sure. I feel so much better now. It's all become clear.

LOL It's a bit early to be drinking isn't it?

  4. Never said he had to blast Goltz. But he said other strange things like he was happy with all 3 phases of the game. That the team was dynamic. That they were on the cusp of ... of.... something. I have no frigging clue what? Burke is lost in an alternate reality if he's happy after that loss. Blast Goltz?  He's the least of their problems. I don't want a coach happy, giddy or satisfied after a loss.

All 3 phases of our team took turns looking good and bad last night...

Renaud and the punt coverage team were the best they've been all season, but our returner fumbled the opening kickoff... good and bad.

The Dline took Lulay down 5 times (1 taken away by a shady roughing call) and mostly shut down Harris on the ground at least, but Lulay made a lot of easy completions against some at times loose coverage. Good and bad.

The offense.. well you saw. Good and bad.

The opening 30 seconds of this video is Burke responding to the use of the word 'cusp', check it out

  5. What bothers me almost as much as the loss was Tim Burke's peppy & feel good interview after the game. He sounded giddish saying it was a good effort on the field. That all 3 phases of the game  were better & he was happy with his offense. He asked the fans  for patience. He called the team "Dynamic" & vowed it would do special things once the winning started. And he & Justin Goltz in another interview mentioned the Bombers were, "On the Cusp" 7 or 8 times. Most out of touch interview I think I ever heard a coach make in all the years I've watched sports & I'm not exaggerating when I say that. We're in even more trouble than I thought & for the first time now I believe Tim Burke has got to go.

The message aside, I'm sure the 'peppyness' was overcompensation for the true feelings he had (somewhere between anger and outright fury I wager). No point going all Jim Mora only 1/3 of the way through the season.

  6. Why spend the time to respond with a post like that?

Sorry, I forgot cheeky emoticons to express the playful nature of my response... Did you actually want a response, or are you just asking rhetorical questions to nobody in particular?

As a fellow fan I'm legit sorry for you that you're a self-described 'Buck guy'. I wanted so bad to see him succeed for his sake and for the sake of the Bombers, but that's clearly not in the cards.

But really, why make this call at all? Forgive me if I'm failing to grasp your point, but that sounds like you'd rather see them stick with Buck at least til the bye week. I wholeheartedly disagree with you if that's the case, he should have been demoted at the very least back in the off season, and Goltz should be getting the starters share of reps RFN. I stand by my remark that it's the right call to make so it doesn't matter who made it. And you know what this team need even less than 'more distractions'? More losses. Something had to give and soon. This was the best move they've made all season.

  7. - Who made the call? It doesn't really make that much of a difference if it's the right call. I imagine this decision was made by Burke, not Mack.

    - Why make this call at all? Because Buck is clearly not getting the job done, even when he is healthy. His injury history speaks for itself, as do his numbers (see Mike's post re: Buck's stats over his past 18 appearances).

    - I'm a Buck guy. I'm so sorry.

    - Where is the GM and CEO during this disaster? In their offices, doing their day to day work, I figure.

  8. OC's don't have time during games to talk to their qbs exclusively. Too many things going on which is why they need a qb coach.

I was responding to someone who claimed Huf (HC), Dickenson (OC), and Millanovich (another HC) were better equipped than Crowton to mentor their QB's because they were former QB's. Do they not have a lot going on as well?

  9. it happens in the business world all the time, it's a good way to take egos and internal finger pointing out of the picture. Just get someone to come in from outside and ask them "so what's the problem?"

It also helps to have someone on the outside reinforce and validate the things you're doing right, as well. We get consultants come through my office all the time. Never a bad idea to get a fresh set of eyes.

  10. I believe you're missing my point. Dickenson, Huf and Millanovich are former QB's who have played the game and can provide insight that only a former CFL QB could provide. Sure Crowton has been a QB coach in the NFL but has never played the position and can only provide input from a coaches perspective, not a former QB.

And yes, a solid oline helps as well.

I agree that a solid oline would go a long way... but Gary Crowton was a former QB; he played QB at Snow College in Utah 1976-77, and again at Colorado State in 78. Further, he has coached 7 QB's that went on to be selected in the NFL draft. So... there's that.

  11. It's all about coaching. Collaros has Millanovich to mentor him and Mitchell has both Dickenson and Hufnagel. Who does Goltz have?

    That's the difference.

I know we've gone on and on about there not being a dedicated QB's coach, but I thought for certain Gary Crowton was still mentoring the QB's. I know he spent a lot of time with them during TC. He's been a QB's coach (among his other roles) since '91.

  12. It's the same here in Calgary. It's a friggin' tabloid. It's supposed to be a rag. When a newspaper has Sunshine Girls, are you expecting Pulitzer Prize writers? But sometimes I feel that members here vent on the Sun & Freep knowing the team sucks just out of vindictiveness. The anger should be directed at chronic mismanagement & lousy coaching instead. Not football reporters.

What get's me is the factual errors in their articles. Even Ed Tait (Freep) said in his latest article that the Bombers have only thrown for 2 TD's through 5 games this season. I mean... come on.

    http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/so-many-problems-217546701.html

DIRECT QUOTE: Fact: The Bombers, as a team, threw for only 16 passing TDs a year ago and are on a slower pace this season with just two through the first five games.

Well, I'm pretty sure that Chris Matthews was the first Bomber to catch a TD at IGF, and J Detain scored another 2 in our most recent game against Calgary... this is only off the top of my head. The writers in both papers are awful and getting worse.

Pulitzer Prize? Not even worth a participant ribbon.
