Everyone keeps saying just fire people, it cant' get worse, but that's how you go from Dave Ritchie to Jim Daley or Doug Berry to Mike Kelly. and on and on and on. But hey by all means continue the process, it's worked out great for the last 25 years, but THIS TIME, this time we'll win the Grey Cup instantly surely. The talent on this team was decimated so badly because of the hirings and firings in the 2000s that we are still trying to rebuild from that. Basically an expansion team and then we fired the first GM to have a crack at trying to rebuild it and brought in someone else who got rid of almost everything and started from scratch again. What do we do? Fire these guys and start from scratch again? Look they gave Bellefeuille a chance this year thinking that continuity and an improved on paper offensive line would make a difference, it hasn't so now the next logical step is to change the offensive coordinator. People hate it, but patience. If next year is another poor year then yes let's discuss firing people but right now it's premature. Let's see where we stand when the NIs drafted by this regime are more veteran and experienced. If our offensive line still sucks when Goosen and Chungh have some experience then we'll talk.

So we make a bunch of changes and when they still suck because they don't have the proper base in place do we fire everyone in 2 more years and keep repeating the cycle? If you think that's a good idea then you really don't see what I'm saying at all. Be patient and give these guys a proper chance. Yeah it's hard, yeah it's frustrating, yeah it sucks, but patience is the key here.

Considering that O'Shea has reportedly been getting more and more involved in special teams in the weeks leading up to this I don't think it's a stretch to think that this came from O'Shea himself. He saw a problem, tried to help and see if it got better without having to fire someone, it did not so he pulled the trigger. I don't know why people think O'Shea is blind and doesn't know what's wrong with this team. I guarantee that he knows damned well what the problems on this team are, he's a smart guy even if he doesn't say it in the media.

You don't want to hear it but patience is needed now more than ever. Oh, I hear you...but that particular phrasing is giving me multiple flashbacks... but we haven't been patient at all. Weren't patient with Reinbold which makes sense, weren't patient with Richie or Daley or Berry or Kelly or Mack or anyone. For too long it's been about winning a Grey Cup right ******* now. If only they'd won that 01 game, a lot of grief would have been saved.

Do you really think MOS is going to say at his presser, "Yes, if we don't win this week and the offense still sucks, I'm firing Marcel"? First i don't think MOS has the power to fire anyone he may have a say but management controls that part of the team. And yes it would be a breathe of fresh air if MOS would light a fire under this team because being everyone's friend is not working How about saying "The team has to have a better showing or their will be more jobs on the line including mine."? Why do you need to say that when everyone in every sport everywhere knows that's true without it having to be said?
-
There is nothing there because they keep firing everyone every couple years. These guys may not be the ideal people, but give them a chance to try and build things up a bit before we make that move. Fire them all now and it's right back to square one with no qbs no scouting department and no decent canadian talent on the team prolonging the misery even further. You don't want to hear it but patience is needed now more than ever.

Which makes sense. If you're going to make a change to the offensive coaching staff it pretty much has to be in the offseason. They're light on experience there to begin with and firing Bellefeuille now likely does exactly nothing to help improve things. Do it in the offseason and just hope Marcel finds a set of balls before the playoffs are out of the picture.

The problem right now is really that Lyle Bauer was too egotistical. If he'd left Ritchie alone he'd have fixed things in 04, instead we got Jim Daley. If they'd given Berry more time it likely never gets as bad as it did, but Bauer had to get his buddy Mike Kelly a job and that just set things back years. Then we get some bad coaching hires after Kelly and the time to rebuild isn't given and we start fresh again. This is why even though I am not the biggest believer in Kyle Walters I am not in favour of firing yet another GM. Give him some time to build a more stable base before we blow it all up again.

What Do you expect to Happen Next Week?
17to85 replied to sportmentary2012's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Why not? The Riders only got back in the game on a punt return TD and it was still a highly winnable game until things went off the rails on the roughing the kicker penalty. That game was the Riders Grey Cup. Labour Day game which just happens to come after the coach and GM are fired, a traditional bounce back game for a team, and it still took a complete Bomber meltdown for them to win. Banjo Bowl is very winnable, provided the offence actually tries to score some points. I am curious to see if Bellefool opens up the playbook a bit with a qb like Nichols who is more experienced and has proven he can play a little bit in the CFL vs. Brohm and Marve. -
Brown and O'Shea were rivals on the field and when Brown was playing and O'Shea was a special teams coordinator. I seem to think that more than once O'Sheas specials teams would come up with a play to beat the Bombers as well which likely makes Brown dislike him. As a player Brown was great, as a media guy he is a bit full of himself and comes across as too much of a know it all. Plus this thing he does where he tries to show off his vocabulary and make every statement as wordy as possible bothers me. Reeks of a guy trying to sound smarter than he is.
-
I want to see him actually do "something". Sit players for dumb penalties. You don't have to yell at them, just point to the bench and leave it at that. He's done nothing as a coach to reduce the number of stupid penalties and I'm sick and tired of it. Don't throw a guy under the bus to the media, but if someone take 3-4 dumb penalties, hey, he's not on the roster next game. A coach can make players accountable without going apeshit on them. MOS is doing neither. Ok so who other than Kuale has been a chronic taker of penalties? Picard I guess but who's going to replace him if you want to staple him to the bench? The penalty on the punt was the biggest one but even that wasn't some discipline problem, it was simply missing the ball. Adams took a roughing penalty, but it was a pretty weak one, Taking Dressler out of bounds and Dressler goes down easy once past the sidelines. Sure it's a by the books penalty, but not like Adams really gave him a shot. Johnson took a couple in recent weeks but the one on Sunday I believe was a frustration thing where he got caught for the retaliation. It's not like it's one guy all the time, it's just a lot of frustrations boiling over when a game is being pissed away. The 3 phases of the team all start pulling their own weight in a game you'll see less of that frustration.

If you think Bomber fans take losses well I don't know what to tell you. The coach doesn't need to appease fans in the media, the only way a coach can truly appease fans is to win games. I mean there are a lot of things I'd be disappointed in a coach blabbing about in the media. How he disciplines players is one of them. People have these crazy expectations of what a coach is going to say. Times have changed, with how quickly information gets spread around without any kind of context or source checking everyone has to walk on eggshells. You don't hear any other coaches in the CFL saying much more. Chamblin did but he was clearly in a save his own ass mentality since he was sensing that the noose was tightening around his neck. I still believe Mike O'Shea is a good head coach. I believe he is dealing with a terrible offensive coordinator and a lack of talent and depth in some areas. Now we can talk about how he should have fired Bellefeuille in the offseason, but it's not always as easy as that. The Bombers are fighting a stigma about being a coaching graveyard and firing even more coaches doesn't help shed that stigma. For that reason I'd give O'Shea more time, but my patience with Bellefool is over. It was over last year but this year he's gotta go for sure or it'll cost everyone their jobs.
-
Agreed, that's the first thing I noticed on the play... not only was the punt right down the middle it also had no hang time ... the ST unit was basically SOL right from the beginning... Lirim shoulders most of the blame for that particular punt return... Was it a matter of Liram putting it in the wrong spot or was that where he was asked to put it? If you go back virtually every one of the returns for TDs this year have been when we (mistakenly) kick from deep in our end to the middle of the field. I am pretty sure that is what PT was calling for a middle punt because Liram was NEVER trying to punt that anywhere but the middle of the field (or maybe the left hash) Or, more reasonable explanation, when punting from deep he's trying too hard to kick the laces off theball and his placement goes out the window.

The problem is that too many fans have anger issues and they just expect everyone else to be as angry as they are. They want a head coach ranting and raving about how angry he is, they want Bob Irving to be unloading on the coaches and players for playing to poorly, they want everyone to feel like they do. They don't want the head coach to be calm and give non answers, they don't want Bob Irving to let the coach be calm. Look at how this place is immediately after a loss, they want everyone in the media and with the team to react like that.
-
Well it was Shell that replaced him in game so I don't see that changing really. Only other possible option to me is having someone like Washington move up and let someone else cover Washingtons spot, but probably easiest to just have Shell take Randles spot.
-
I'm just scared he will be the HC. But nothing would surprise me they way the Bombers are run. If they want to make a current coordinator with head coaching experience the replacement for O'Shea why in gods name would it be the guy running the weakest part of the team and not Ritchie Hall who has actually got his charges to improve as the year has gone on?

Marcel Bellefeuille - When does he get axed
17to85 replied to Brandon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Listen it's going to take some time, Bellefool got a reprieve by having Drew Willy carry the offense to some decent performances early this year and now that he's hurt Bellefool can hide behind the "well the backups just suck" shield. It won't last forever but it does extend his life here. Just be patient and he will use all that rope he's been given to hang himself. -
SO everyone said the guy should be fired but now we ***** about it happening because we wanted Bellefool fired first? Come on guys. Yeah we need to change the offensive coordinator, that display on Sunday was embarrassing, but one step at a time. People said they'd never fire Tracey because he's buddies with O'Shea, but I think it clearly shows that the team knows when there's a problem and will make changes. Bellefool was always going to be the last coordinator fired because the head coach has the least familiarity with the offense but do we really think that they go into their meetings thinking everything is just fine with the O? It might take until the offseason for it to happen but I am confident in saying that Bellefool will not be the offensive coordinator here next season.

Bombers Blown Out by 0 & 9 Team ... Oh well, yawn
17to85 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yeah the D was frustrated because they got no help. Bellefool called a game like he was afraid. Wasn't until things were out of hand he let Brohm even try a throw longer than 3yards. Guy might be a poor qb but when you coach like he's a poor qb you just make it easier to defend and suck the life out of your own team -
60% of Sask's plays were running on a windy day... MB still called 60% pass - blame OL all you want, change personnel every year... its his playbook They tried to establish the run game early and it was stuffed. Need some blocking to run the ball

There is not one NI on this team I wouldn't cut if that's what it took to get Muamba here. Hell there ain't many imports I'd want here ahead of Muamba. You have 1 job Walters, get it done.

bad day to be a Tyler

Do you think he'd learn more standing behind centre running for his life or watching from the sidelines? Not like this is a raw rookie here who just needs game reps, he's had game reps with Edmonton quite a bit this year. He needs to learn the playbook and the offence and he will do that better in the film room and on the sidelines than playing in the game this week.Quarterbacks running for their lives isn't going to be unique to this weekend! No but when you're trying to get a guys understanding of an offense up to par it's better for him to not have to worry about that kind of thing. He's been around the CFL long enough and played enough he knows what game speed is, he needs time to mentally get the game plan in his head, that is better served watching this week than playing. People don't like Brohm that's fine, but let's not say stupid stuff like Nichols should start after only being here for a couple days. Even a prime Ricky Ray wouldn't start on only a couple days.

Week 11 - Tor.@Ham - Edm.@Cal. Monday Sept. 7

a night where 114 yards and 2 ints wasn't the worst quarterbacking on the field.... that's like watching Marve last game but the other qb be worse! how is that possible? -
