  1. Everyone is basically running the same stuff. Teams have a handful of iso routes, and a bunch of 2 and 3 man route concepts for pass. Everyone runs a version of zone read now with a handful of downhill running plays, iso (back going to a certain gap) or zone (directional blocking read by back). For the run scheme, it's all rooted in Mike Shanahan's concepts from Denver and San Fran (as OC and head coach) with the zone read evolving as a mix with the spread offense which really started in the Northeast. Lapo is from that tree, one of the guys who brought it (more read plays, QB run, zone read as base) north along with Hufnagel when he came back. For the pass scheme it's all based off the Spread and the Air Raid. There's less and less West Coast (Trestman style) offense around by the year. West Coast is more prescribed, Air Raid stuff is more adjustable to the coverage. If you pull out a numbered route tree and show it to someone who's grown up playing football in this era it's like showing them a magazine or a rotary phone. It's all adjustable routes and route combos now. Tendencies are what is different. If it's 2nd and 6, this guy likes to call this. This QB wants to run this. There's not really any secrets. It's calling the right play to isolate the right guy and winning the play.
  2. But coming off Achilles. Hard to know what level he’ll be at. First year back guys usually struggle, second year back better if their body lasts.
  3. They’ve been using a DI spot for Cole so likely would be both for a bit anyway.
  4. I mean if their coaches can’t watch film and pick up the basic schemes of any teams no information is going to help them
  5. Grant’s injury not at the worst time, allows them to flip that DI spot to the secondary and have someone like 15 return punts, McCrae can probably handle kickoffs and missed FGs. Put Parker or Rose on if they are ready.
  6. Suitor sounds like a guy who won a fan contest at his first CFL game to join the broadcast crew. Good lord. Is he high?
  7. He needs one for his knee and Maas needs one for his brain. Kicking field goals to keep pushing it back to 16 point deficit. Gonna have to go for a TD at some point.
  8. For reference, Collaros is 220. Masoli would be playing end or tackle if he wasn't a QB.
  9. They've been loyal to that OL group so far, talking guys like Neufeld and Hardrick. A more cutthroat approach might have jumped at Desjarlais and moved on from both of those guys, go with a younger import at tackle or shuffle Gray over to tackle, Dobson in to RG. Will be interesting to see how far that loyalty goes as the level of play declines. They basically have replacements for guard and tackle in house with Dobson and Richmond.
  10. Yeah but when they posted that weight. Likely when he entered the CFL.
  11. Crum settling in and looks the part physically in comparison to a tubby like Maier.
  12. 64 yard TD with 67 yards YAC. That's just about the only way to do it with these QB's.
  13. Kongbo offside on a kickoff. Better trade him to Winnipeg.
  14. Liegghio apparently a member of the Crum fan club.
  15. People won't like this opinion but if Masoli ever going to play again he needs to get down to 215-220. Carrying a lot of weight, bet he's 255-260 right now, looks like Jerome Bettis. Not good when you've already got vulnerable joints.
  16. Hope to god they make Bailey nationalized American. Only other guys on O that would qualify are the tackles. Could really have flexibility if they do it with Bailey.
  17. I'm not sure Neufeld will crack 50 in the PFF rating in this one.
  18. Highlight of Calgary season so far is their punt returner going helmet to helmet with one of his blockers.
  19. Honestly Calgary likely the worst. Cornelius inconsistent but actually capable. Maier can't do anything.
  20. Oliviera doesn't get stopped there before the 1. Bad pull by Prukop.
  21. Watch it back later. They went back to the normal 5 with Dobson as a tight end either off left or right. Eli only came in for the one snap.
