look out redblacks; the Elks have some talent and are gonna have a fire under their ass in the rematch this weekend.

Jones could be an effective DC right? his triple-role GM/HC/DC position seemed doomed/foolish from the outset. Three full-time jobs. lunacy. At least the Elks were sensible enough to name a dedicated DC for 2024 (Jason Shivers) so they don't have to replace that role now on short notice.

Chris Jones is just a little more than halfway thru his contract. Pity the poor Elks fans and org.

Big game hunter. Always has to a hot hand vs the Elks. Hamilton vs. Edmonton in a couple weeks might be the best toilet bowl game in awhile in the CFL. Both teams can make plays but have zero defense.

Masoli renegotiated his deal this past winter. Dunno whether it's a friendly enough deal to roster both him and Brown, but he's not making the undisputed starter money he got in 2022-2023.

yeah, Harris / Mitchell / Collaros don't seem to have many miles left on them although the former two are playing well. MBT is an older guy too. while we're talking about Redblacks QBs, I'm glad to see that Tyree Adams is back on the active roster. Poor dude won his first start last year but took a season-ending injury from it. Masoli is still six-gamed; wonder who the odd guy out will be when he returns.

I will always root for promising QBs who are establishing themselves in the CFL -- this league gets stinky fast when it trots out bad / underqualified quarterbacks.

There was a ludicrous game in the CFL last year, one of those nutty CFL games where two teams take turns shooting themselves in the foot. I think there were three straight turnovers and I think two of them came on one play ... something like an interception and a long runback followed by a fumble and a long run-runback that meant that the line of scrimmage moved by a net two or three yards. Neilson wasn't calling it but I kind of wish he was because if any sequence called for his trademark "WHAT IS HAPPENING?" it was that one. Ridiculous game demands ridiculous call. like Negatron says, it's so subjective! To me, Gord Miller sounds like a teenager whose voice is not quiiiiite finished yet.

I actually like Rod Smith as a pbp guy. He had a great call on Jefferson's strip sack against Ottawa. Him and Forde are my favorite pair right now. Agree that Suitor needs to be done and that Lapo needs a promotion to the booth. What do people think of Marshall Ferguson as a pbp guy? He's decent to listen to and doesn't speak in endless tired cliches. I think he's pretty good.

On TV, Streveler looked like he was really banged up in the first quarter. Doubt the dude could stand up to 13 more games of what he did last night. We do have to have a downfield passing attack at some point. Props to Brady for a great night last night but we need some more ingredients on O to really sustain some success.

On the play where Wilson shoved Crum out of bounds, it was 95 who crushed the pocket and forced Crum to scramble. Turd to Kramdi, who def should be fined for that hit. Total garbage that a promising QB has to hit the bench because Kramdi headshotted him.

This week Lapo breaks down the Montreal offensive smackdown against Ottawa. That all-24 view is so dope, it shows so much more than the regular broadcast. @4:00 it's funny how ineffective the Redblacks undisguised blitz is. @7:15 the tight end allows the slot receiver to attack the cornerback with a waggle. I've been watching CFL for decades and I had no idea. So obvious. @9:23 every time I see a stack formation from now on I'm gonna watch to see if the db banjos it right.

The play calling at the end of the half was jacked up. Running into the line with 11 seconds left basically conceded the TD. Weird call. I got no beef with the call to cancel the last second showing; the clock clearly started late on the final play of the half. It looked bush league suspicious to me, real homer timekeeping.

Watching those Lapo videos has made this game make so much more sense for me. esp. the pre-snap motion is fascinating when you know what the point of it is, because to a causal like me it looks like a bunch of guys kinda speedwalking randomly.
