SEE, SEE HOW INCLUSIVE I AM?!!? why

I agree totally too. I just find it hilarious that I've been told now for weeks that all of these refugees were totally screened and totally cool and the UN and the government know exactly what they were doing, and if I didn't just 100% agree with this and instead asked that the Government make sure that these refugees were screened properly that I was a racist, Islamaphobe, bigot, insert stupid label here, and now the Canadian government is actually admitting that maybe, just maybe, they shouldn't be allowing in single males. But why? Isn't it totally xenophobic to assume these single males will be strapping on self-detonation kits and reaching for their AK's after they "integrate" into our society? I don't see how it all reconciles with the politically correct psyche, but once again, it appears the politically correct feel-good lefty crowd has tied themselves into an ideological pretzel here. I know you guys won't admit it, but it's pretty cool to see. Bring on the 25,000 women and children, let's get em here ASAP and lickety split.

definitely xenophobia.

Oswald was a US Marine. That's where he learned how to shoot. Didn't you see Full Metal Jacket? -

We're going to a game in Phoenix on Dec 31. I can't remember who the Coyotes are playing. Anyway, we're thinking of getting two tickets for $99 and they are throwing in two free beers, under their "Coors light" promotion. But I am also thinking we'll just get tickets off a scalper. I don't know why there are hockey teams in these markets. It just makes no sense.

Once again, attack the person, but don't even address the message. What else is new around here. Here's Rex Murphy on the Syrian situation. I expect Rex to get the same treatment. http://www.cbc.ca/news/thenational/rex-murphy-trudeau-s-refugee-promise-1.3327352 Yes, let's get Noam's take on everything. Can't wait, though I already pretty much know what he's going to say.

The leadership of Hamas spends most of their time in Qatar, living in five star accommodation, paid mostly by all the millions of dollars of cash they've skimmed out of UN grants that were supposed to go to building schools and hospitals in Gaza, but instead went into building terror tunnels. I will never understand all of the love of Hamas by the extreme left. They are just as bad as ISIS in so many ways.

The middle east has hated us for way longer than 100 years. Islam has been trying to eradicate Christianity since it's inception 1400 years ago. And there has been an ethic cleansing of christians going on there for over a hundred years. In the early 20th century 20% of the population of the middle east was Christian. ....now it's 5% and quickly falling. Cause it's not like Christianity hasn't tried to eradicate other religions throughout history. Ah yes, the infamous Obama "high horse" argument.

Because, they aren't democratically elected governments. They can do whatever they want. And they aren't going to take in anybody - why would they? That means less money in the pockets of the regime that controls the country. Humanitarianism isn't something that these kinds of countries engage in. The hypocrisy of people who criticize anyone for wanting to slow the process down is sure prevalent here. The people criticizing anyone about immigration of Syrian refugees saying nothing about how these Arab countries refuse to fight against ISIS or for not taking any refugees from Syria. Saudi is definitely fighting ISIS, but they aren't taking any refugees.

I agree. I was erroneous in my first post and thanks for pointing that out.

LOL - yes of course it would add more weight, but I don't think you will see it. Thanks for the link. I'll report back to my "source" and see if they want to moderate what they're telling me. At the very least, I would expect Trudeau to be trying to control the message, as any leader would do, given the political implications of this hot potato. Especially after the Americans just vetoed Obama's Syrian plan. EDIT - I read the link, and this Liberal MP is extremely pro refugee. To clarify, my "source" was telling me that Trudeau has ordered all Liberal MP's to toe the line like this MP is doing, and to say nothing negative about the refugees, no matter what their personal beliefs. It just struck me as very Harperesque of him. Which is something this new guy wasn't going to do, according to people here. I always assumed that this was extremely naïve. All of the leaders do it. The media just made sure that everyone knew it when Harper did it.

It appears that Obama has failed in his bid to bring the Syrian asylum seekers to the US. Even Democrats are voting against Obama on this one. Just for the record, I don't agree with this, and I think they are letting hysteria guide them here. I hope that Canada doesn't follow this lead.

Word from a Conservative connection here in West Kelowna is that Trudeau has put a strict gag order on his MP's to refrain from talking to the media about the Syrian refugee issue. If this is true (and I don't expect the "We Love Trudeau" media to report it), how is he doing anything differently than the last guy who was Prime Minister? Oh right, it's totally ok when Justin does it.

Rich - you missed my point entirely. What I am saying is that our cultural mosaic works for the most part, but as Europe is showing us, it falls apart when you import a large population that refuses to integrate, and just becomes parasitic and violent, for reasons people seem too worried about looking politically incorrect to even discuss. We can ignore the evidence and continue to watch the bodies pile up on the streets of France in the name of feeling good about ourselves, or we can look at how we currently assimilate immigrants and find ways to make sure they aren't marginalized, or feel that they can continue to practice their old ways, be it to brandish a gun in the face of a family that happens to be from an ethnic group they were persecuted by in their old country, or self-detonating in a theater while yelling Allah Akbar. I hope that we can get past the name-calling and the nonsense, and focus on the problem. But it seems like its impossible to even agree that there may be a problem, as people are too scared to break out of the politically correct cocoons they've insulated themselves in. PS - I will admit that I shouldn't have said "a lot" of refugees. You are correct, my mistake.

I was remembering a story today about how a Church in Winnipeg sponsored a family of Serbian refugees to come to Winnipeg back in the 1990's when Yugoslavia was falling apart. All was hunky-dory and the family was settling well, until the dad learned that there was a family of Croatians living down the street. He came to the Church and demanded that they give him money to buy a gun, as he was sure the Croatians living nearby him would try to murder his whole family when they found out he was Serbian. I believe that they had to move the family away and into a neighbourhood that was ethnically acceptable (no Croats) for the family, as the guy was inconsolable. This is the kind of baggage that a lot of refugees bring with them when they come here. It's what made them "refugees" in the first place. If their own country wasn't an unlivable cesspool of violence and destruction and war, they'd be still living there. It is up to our society to find a way to end these prejudices so that we all can live in peace with each other, including Serbs and Croats, no matter what is happening back in their old countries. And that's the problem in Europe, the Muslims emigrating there aren't integrating, and are becoming more and more radicalized, especially the second generation, which is why you had French born radicalized Muslims self-detonating on Friday in Paris. Something is wrong with the model, and Europe should be our clarion call.

Actually it looks like most of them were born and raised in France, which is much, much scarier.

I was watching Hockey Night in Canada a few months ago and Ron Maclean did a segment on the Muslims that JT's dad allowed in from Uganda in the 1970's that were being persecuted by Idi Amin. Canada has benefited greatly from that move, as a lot of those families have come here, lived in peace, and prospered, including Naheed Nenshi's parents. I have seen some people drawing parallels to those Muslims and the Syrian Muslims. Is there a difference? I am not sure. All I ask is that our government do all it can to protect us from radical extremism. If they can guarantee that they are allowing in 25,000 Naheed Nenshis, then I 100% support this move.

I agree with you here Mark, that there are other refugees that need our attention that are getting back-burnered now because of politics. All refugees, be they political ones or otherwise, deserve equal treatment.
