  1. I think their OL will be much better this season. They're all good players. but I think last year was the first time any of them had ever played together before, and it showed. A year of familiarity should really help them out. An improved OL will make the entire offense better, especially Durant, who's already better than what Calgary & Edmonton have. Sheets is a top notch rb & the receiving corp. should be improved this season.

I also like the moves they made on D this offseason. Chick, Foley, Anderson (as long as he's at corner, not db), and Weldon are all nice upgrades for them. They have to show they can do it on the field together, but on paper their D looks much improved.

Indeed...until they show it on the field it's all 'paper punch.'

  2. i'm not sold on the Stamps being back either. that might just be from my particular standpoint (since we pretty much handled them all three times we met them and the one time they were close, it took a 450 yard, record breaking return game by Taylor to even make it close)... but mainly i think it's because in the Grey Cup, Coach Jones exposed them as the one dimensional team that they were.

once you take away Cornish (as we did, 3 times), they just don't have a viable "plan B"...

...i think that Huf and Dave **** have major work to do to avoid all 7 teams employing that (winning) strategy against them.

I'm going to assume that they'll do that work. With Glenn and his short yardage game you need a strong running game. The same thing happened in Winnipeg towards the end of '07 and then into '08. Teams took away the short yardage and the running game...assuming Glenn couldn't beat them with the deep ball...he couldn't.

A healthy and consistent Drew Tate will require a different game plan. That being said...I'll wager Jones, Chreehan et. al. are aware of that.

    On the Bubble:

    Key Green Battles

Chris Best (RG): can he hold on to his right guard spot…or will Ben Heenan unseat him? Heenan started 12 games as a rookie. With a stable of younger OL waiting in the wings, does Best get released if Heenan replaces him?

Rob Bagg ®: after two injury plagued seasons…can he return to form as an effective possession receiver?

Chris Milo (K): Brody McKnight was clearly brought in to push the incumbent

    Last Season

    Up and Down

    • Finished 3rd in the West

    • Lost to Calgary in the West-semi, on a long TD with 20 seconds left

    2013 Outlook and Prediction

    Paper Punch??

Durant can be an effective QB, but he is inconsistent. He relies on his receivers to make outstanding plays on balls thrown up for grabs. Ball control offense is not his forte. Will Drew Willy see more playing time?

The offensive line looks solid. Some of the incumbents will be pushed in camp. Tackles were a problem at times last year, but players have been signed to push those positions. Sheets is an effective RB with plenty of upside

The receiver corps should be good, especially if Bagg stays healthy and Simon still has some gas in the tank (which I suspect he does).

Tons of change on defense. The secondary is almost completely overhauled and there will be new players at the defensive end spots. These areas needed to be addressed…but how much change is too much? Did they over-react after giving up that TD in the West semi? The LB corps is decent, particularly Brackenridge. Ferri and Williams have attitude issues…but coaching could be the key there. Personally, I’m not sold on their LB corps.

    Three things:

    1. How long will it take the new defensive players to gel?

    2. Can Durant be more consistent and high-percentage?

    3. Will the new acquisitions known to be locker room cancers…be cancerous?

Finally: they could make a push for second, but I dare say they’ll finish third in West again. Too much change on their defense…and BC / Calgary are better at QB.

It looks like they’re building a team to win THIS YEAR…but I don’t think they’re that good. It’s going to be a long rebuild if this doesn’t work.

  4. Signed and resigned. Meanwhile, Gavin Walls was three times the player over on the strong side.

Walls, while I thought he was a great player while here.. I wonder how he would stack up to the DEs we have seen in the last few seasons.. Hall, Mainor, Hunt, etc.. (I don't count O'dell as he wasn't one of our finds)

I'd still take Walls over Mainor but Hunt and Hall are studs for sure.

Pretty much this. The DL talent in the CFL overall has improved by leaps and bounds. IMO, that's part of the reason why we don't see all Canadian Offensive Lines anymore.

  5. Creehan is intense. Even yesterday when I was checking out every aspect of the stadium and completely ignoring what was going on one the field I could still hear him barking.

This *could* be good , hopefully he keeps the vets in check and keeps them in place. I hope its just not loud shouting that goes ignored like back with Kelly....

People who are there for the right reason don't mind being held accountable.

  6. It was just a terrible call all around. Saad did absolutely nothing to earn a penalty.

He still has a right to blow the whistle...calls like that happen in every game. The penalty shot in game 6 was a subjective call too.

  7. Holy crap did Walkom ever pound it into the Hawks' collective asses with that call. If they lose that'll be up there with the Kerry Fraser "no call" on Gretzky as the worst referee mistakes in playoff history.

But...is there really a situation where you don't call the penalty? In reality, if he plans to call the infraction he needs to go ahead and do it. It wasn't a delayed call because both teams had a player going off.

  8. Glad I found this site......nice job.

Looking at the posters in this thread.......looks like we can have some real football discussion, tempered by some wit and style.

Still maintain good relations on OB, mostly due to my sensitive and caring nature......I have no axe to grind with anyone.....well, perhaps a razor or two.....

    :)

really glad to have you. not a slight on anyone else here, but during gameday, yours are some of the contributions I look forward to most.

    same here 8-)

    Precisely
