There are good prices available if you watch the markets and forward contract. And, you can get specialty contracts for crops like high quality oats and malting barley. And all that has nothing to do with ANY government. That was a reasonably good government that also won ridings out here in the rural West. But I am never sure if they can be classified as Liberals - Liberals don't normally slash billions in transfer payments.

I can't wrap my brain around those numbers. Until we had environmental levies and carbon taxes, coal was the cheapest energy source, especially when you needed large amounts of heat, such as for mass livestock operations. Any other energy source was not even close, even with freight included.

The writing was on the wall - all other provinces have just one bargaining unit for teachers - this is good because there will be more equity across the province Most school trustees get elected by acclamation. Now that they'll no longer be bargaining contracts locally, their elimination was inevitable.

I believe this has been pointed out before. Oil is cheap enough for Ontario & Quebec to source it elsewhere, should Line 5 get shut down. If we're counting on oil to pay for them - that ship sailed quite a while ago.

Totally agree with your assessment of politics in the south west. That Liberal MP you mention (David Iftody) was actually quite effective - but that does not seem to matter. Same story up here in Selkirk Interlake. As for Trudeau being less popular, I think the NDP are losing ground and the Libs will pick up some of their lost seats. I think Con support will stay the same - rock solid in inconsequential Tory strongholds, while the Libs will win the swing ridings.
