Hall most likely to be new DC (Now Official)
Mike replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
What.. No other parade to rain on today? My word. Be he speaks the truth brosephUh.. No.. Not really.. When the media prints a quote like "expect a decision on the DC being hall or benevides in 48 hrs.." Leads me to believe that both are interested... Both want the job and both are waiting to see who get it.Not, both are balking, neither are gonna be bombers and the sky is falling yet again, oh noes! All I said was that until it's official I won't be jumping to conclusions because of what happened with our DC last off season. Stubler coming here was supposedly a done deal as well. Then he showed up in Calgary & Huff was grinning like a Cheshire Cat as he knew he stole him away from the Bombers. If you think that's being negative well then so be it. I was just being realistic. I swear, this place gets more like Riderfans everyday. Probably one will sign here but I'm just saying things can change, that's all. I can't believe I have to explain to justify what I said. You wanna dispute what he said? Go ahead, I didn't agree with it either. But keep your BS about it affecting the credibility of the website to yourself. You think this place is so bad, nobody is forcing you to be here. So Mike, do you actually somehow believe that I don't want Benevides or Hall here? That saying that until an official announcement comes down means I want them to go to the Riders??? If that's the case then what a bunch of malarkey as that's not true. So then, just what exactly is your beef with me about now? You've always have a beef with me about something going back to Our Bombers so I just try to ignore you. Today you're pissed because I said this place is becoming more like Riderfans. Tomorrow it'll be something else you won't like. The day after that something else, etc. Notice I don't engage in many discussions with you. Why would I? It's not worth it to me as I have no desire to ever talk to you about anything. I don't think you want to talk to me either so the feeling's mutual. Maybe we should just keep it that way. Did you even read what I wrote? At all? -

would make very little sense. Hall and Benevides are about as far apart in philosophy as two coordinators can be. -
Philip Blake's deal = 135k a year For a 29 year old rookie. Who hasn't taken game speed snaps in 3 years.

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard

Morley got ejected in one game so that may have skewed his penalty minutes somewhat...I think it was against the Riders.. Maybe but GBills quote was saying Morley lead the league in penalties, not penalty minutes. Not sure there is a penalty minutes in football exactly. It's not like they get called for Holding and sit out for 2 minutes. Not a bad idea actually, maybe not 2 minutes but have the offending player removed for 2 plays. It would certainly be an interesting "twist" for the CFL to pursue. It would make for some dynamic play calling on both offence and defence and might help cut down on penalties to boot. Yeah right. QB takes a time count and then what? LT takes a holding penalty in the fourth quarter after you've run out of linemen on the bench and you have to throw Jake Thomas in there for a couple plays. Not practical in football. -

Zilch. We need a starting left tackle and there aren't many Canadians in the league who can play that position Isn't Heenan a tackle? I wouldn't be confident with Heenan penciled in at left tackle. If anything, you could go to camp with the plan to have him at guard or right tackle and if he steals the blind side spot, great, but you don't assume. -

Holy crap that's a lot of money!Yep, way more than I thought. I could be wrong, but I believe this makes Picard the 2nd highest paid OL in the CFL, after Josh Bourke. Labatte. And I guess we know where the bar is going forward for national OL -

6-game IR ... but then what's the point? You don't hide veterans. You hide talent you want to develop. Certainly, not the way Austin used his 6-game IR last year. What player similar to Morley or Neufeld did Austin hide on there last year. -

That's reasonable though. It's very likely that one of him or Neufeld will have to go. Do you want 120k+ tied up in your 7th OL? Or do you want it to be free for more useful purposes? -

Yea, I don't disagree with that part. What else is really being speculated on? Other than a comment I already said I was wrong for making. -
I may get crucified for saying this but no, it shouldn't be incredibly difficult to replace Ian Wild. He's one hell of a player, but you scout properly and you should be able to find a guy to fill that need. Dexter McCoil. Travis Brown. Jasper Simmons. Taylor Reed. Greg Jones. All first year linebackers who had a very positive impact for their teams last year. Could name a handful more too. Linebackers are out there waiting to be found. Wild is a heart and soul, glue kind of guy and I'm not discounting his value as a double duty guy (replacing that will hurt the most) but as far as a pure LB goes ... they're out there.

That's not what I heard at all at the presser. After hearing his later comments, I'll have to retract what I said He was talking about all the negotiating they were doing on the 31st and brought up "wasn't sure if Demond would re-sign, wasn't sure if Johnny ..." and kind of stopped himself as if he had let the cat out of the bag. But clearly his later comments indicate otherwise. -
Will likely release him before February to allow him to sign that.

I also think he just let it slip that Johnny Sears has a new deal. -

Reading between the lines ... Walters is still going to take a run at a Canadian guard. And reading even more between the lines ... I tend to think Morley's big contract is going to be gone. -

It's simply unrealistic to not expect upfront money for players like Banks and Picard. There are nine teams in this league. There's upfront money in most deals any competent agent can negotiate for a veteran. -

Morley is soft and part of an offensive line that has been a huge problem the last number of years. The fact he played his best ball at center doesn't mean that he was particularly good .. it's just that that's where we were able to get the most out of him. Picard, even at this stage of his career, is an upgrade. He's physical. Nasty. He can still drive people off the ball. One of our biggest weaknesses last year was consistency running the ball. And a large part of the problem was the soft interior of our line. Is Picard the same guy he was 5 or 6 years ago? No. But, for a lineman, he's still got a few years of highly productive play in him .. he's also nowhere near as bad as many posters are making him out to be. He's an effective short term upgrade .. a bridge player .. that will allow us to overhaul the attitude and makeup of our offensive line. One of the people I look to for quality OL analysis so hey, if you like it, I like it. -

Color me surprised. I still think Morley was better than Picard at center last year, but if they view this as an upgrade then hey, why not -
Very awesome news

You know Ottawa already has Jon Gott at Center. Picard isn't good enough to beat him out. Center is not one of their weak spots on the OL. Didn't you just suggest he'd go to Ottawa like two posts above this one?
