  1. Grady Cavness couldn't play in the CFL if he was a player today.
  2. Helmets just had a bit of foam in the shell back then.
  3. I can tell you from experience that Tom McGourran was a pretty good receiver. I played against him & the late former Bomber qb Bud Harden in the mid 80's in the Winnipeg Touch Football League. He caught everything that was thrown to him by Harden. Post corners & quick outs were their bread & butter against me. No matter how I covered McGourran he beat me nearly everytime. If I knocked down or broke up a couple passes then I was lucky that day. Otherwise he & Harden had me for lunch. Pretty frustrating game for me but McGourran & harden were having a good time. I'll say this for Tom. Other than grinning a couple of times he never trashed talk me. He'd say, "Nice try" or "Good effort" if he made a catch & I was close to breaking up the play. Harden worked with my sister in law & I knew him pretty well. After the game he came up to me grinning, shook my hand & said, "Sorry man..."
  4. I was at Grand Beach in 1977 & was throwing the football with my friend. Back then, I was hitting the gym hard & was pretty jacked. I had shoulder length brown hair with a moustache. I was wearing a Blue Bomber home jersey with #5 on it as I had a sunburn. Random guy came up to me & asked if I was Dieter Brock. I frigging loved it.

  6. Absolutely true but hopefully teaching kids the right way to tackle & the improving technology that goes into modern helmets will help cut down the # of head trauma incidents. You still see the odd defensive player deliberately lead with the crown of the helmet which is now illegal. A few years that would have been a legal hit.
  7. Exactly. Seattle Seahawk coaching staff teach the rugby way of tackling. It involves proper positioning prior to the tackle & turning the head away upon contact. Wrap & finish the tackle.
  8. Wait, now let me get this straight. Saying this place is superior than the other Bomber site (which it is) makes me a Rider fan? LOL!
  9. 1967: 2017: Helmet technology & design improvements in 50 years. The research will continue to bring new & safer helmets for players
  10. That protection is coming. Helmet technology is getting better. Head trauma will never totally be eliminated but if the helmet manufacturers can reduce concussions by half then things will be a lot better for football as a sport. Teaching proper tackling techniques at the community & high school level rather than "hitting" & leading with the helmet will reduce head injuries as well.
  11. See wbbfan's explanation. That about sums it up nicely.
  12. We gave up our 1st round pick in 16 after we selected him in the 2015 Supplemental Draft. Considering what he contributed, I wouldn't call him a total bust but a wasted pick instead. Not worth forfeiting the second overall pick in the CFL Draft. We need to stay away from the supplemental draft, first Poblah & now Waggoner.
  13. This place is far superior.
  14. Yes, he retired a few weeks ago citing past injuries as the reason for doing so.
  15. There's a Don Percy KY58 air check on YouTube from July 14, 1977. It runs for about 8 minutes. The growl is in there.
  16. Anyone here remember the runaway hot air balloon prank he pulled?? He claimed he was up in the air doing his show from a hot air balloon, went up too high & got caught up in the jet stream in a runaway balloon. He was pleading for help between songs & commercials. One of the damnedest things I ever heard. Hios listeners were freaking out. Turned out it was a total hoax. However, Percy made more than a few people angry but it was a great joke.
  17. I thought Don Percy passed away a few years ago. I may be wrong about that.
  18. I've told Colin he should close Ourbombers permanently but he won't do it. Thus you have one or 2 guys talking to themselves like they're zombies. Or some guy claiming to have insider news when he doesn't & being obnoxious at the same time. No one wants to get involved in garbage threads like that. I think he somehow holds up hope that an influx of former members will come back & OB will return to its former status but it won't happen.
  19. I have no problem with the all encompassing threads. However, I also like separate threads if the news is big or major rather than burying it in a thread with 300 or more posts. That's my take.
  20. Again, between the story headline & what I interpreted in that story, that's how I read it.
  21. You missed an important step. They decomposed first.
  22. My stand is I won't argue anymore. I'll state my case with anyone who actually wants to talk but if someone says (for example) that I'm against anything new as was said to me on this thread about the new soccer league, then I'll just say thanks, entitled to their opinion & move on.
