Brent has no say. This was all lobbying by the hotel industry to the Conservatives. I bet there will be bumps to their political donations this year.

Technically, they lowered the capacity to 50% again. However, they're basically at 50% anyhow due to other social distancing rules. I guess table group sizes were also dropped as a result of the max 5 people. At gyms, there have been some exposures but no outbreaks. (Yay!) Although, recently in Ontario, an exposure at a spin class lead to a bunch of cases.
  3. As soon as they open their mouths, they're making fools of themselves, I find.

Mostly I agree but I think the bars have been big drivers of cases along with large group sizes for events. Should have done it month ago.
  5. Laine had like 75% of his time on ice with Sheif last year. And, he got more 5on5 ice time than Wheeler too, I believe.

Interesting. At Walmart, it's been compulsory since August and I would say, in my experience, that's been adhered to. But, you would still see people with them on, pushed down below their chins. Costco was 100% yesterday but we have additional measures here.
  7. I'll be very curious to see the research into this election, as it rolls out over the next few years. Was there in fact a higher turnout? (That will be easy to determine) What motivated people to vote early? Why did they wait until election day? What motivated people to vote by mail? And, of course, all the investigations into the shenanigans during voting and after, which will inevitably come.

No, neither was I, but I find the whole thing very odd. They were at the forefront of masks and social distancing at the beginning. I felt very safe there. The employees were all wearing masks and everything they were doing seems consistent with the most stringent guidelines. But, recently, although most were wearing masks, the customers stopped respecting social distancing. I was lined up yesterday, waiting for a cart and someone, shoving a donut into his mouth, pushed past everyone (physically touching people) to get into the store. I suppose Costco could do a better job inside the store but, geez people, get your act together!
  9. That's all he is focused on. Everything is a popularity contest with him.
  10. The DS9 explanation was far more thoughtful, in my mind. Also, it gives Dax (all forms) more depth. Star Trek redoes things a lot and rewrites history. Not always for the better.

So, the only real changes are closing bars and casinos. Got it. Restaurants are "back" to 50%, except, due to social distancing, they're already there. There was word out that they were going to allow students to learn from home if they chose to but nothing was announced. EDIT: I should add stores are back to 50%. That's big for those of us that do the grocery shopping. Costco has been busy and a lot of people are not social distancing there.

    6.3% in Winnipeg right now!
  13. Yeah, good thing.... Some players might actually develop. I remember when people lost their minds when Sheif wasn't get the top minutes because of his "potential" Niku has earned his spot on the Moose. Roslo has never shown he can play centre at the NHL level. Potential, sure. Everyone wants the rookies to play now, play now, play now, ignoring the fact that they need to develop to be better players. It's not "reality of modern day", players have always wanted to play more. Always.
  14. Wheeler is a better player than Laine is right now. And, he has great chemistry with Sheif. I would be in favour of firing Maurice if he didn't put Sheif and Wheeler together, rather than appeasing a young, incredibly talented but also flawed, player.

Which would make sense if the test positivity rate was low but it's not. It's over 5% and has been in Winnipeg for many days. But, they're introducing some new measures today, only a couple of weeks late. Hopefully, these new measures have an effect on the cases soon. There was snow on the ground here this morning, so we're going to be forced inside soon for more and more things.

Although the cases are much lower, the test positivity rate remains high at over 5%, so we're not improving yet.
  17. Yes, I'm eagerly awaiting the Dominion. So far, it's been rehashes of prior storylines (Vash, Q and Locutus) and introductions of the new(ish) characters. The last episode I saw was excellent, though. Season 1, Episode 8 - Dax. It spends a lot of time talking about Trills, the host and symbiont and "who" they are when they come together.

This is how you talk to the anti-science crowd. You're allowed to be anti-science but don't ever think that any of your anti-science policies should ever be followed.
  19. The agents didn't say necessarily that he wanted to be moved, just that it would be mutually beneficial for both parties. That's not really an, if, but more of an sad realization that it could be over. Laine has many flaws in his game and he needs to develop. If the Jets just put him at the top of the circle and let him shoot all the time, he wouldn't develop. But, he's also has elite level talent and will be an elite level NHLer. If Laine doesn't see that he's becoming a better overall player, then that's on him (and his reps).
  20. I've started watching DS9 again. I've never watched it start to finish. I'm on the 6th episode. I've probably watched 70% of the episodes but never all the way through.
  21. Very interesting comments from Pierre Lebrun, who spoke with Laine's agents. Both sides are in regularcommunication and Laine's agents have said to Chevy, given the trade speculation, that a trade would be mutually beneficial for both parties. We are definitely looking at the end of Laine's tenure here, I fear. This doesn't sound like contract negotiation stuff. A shame, really.

I agree. But, I was that way before because I've had employers that make you feel bad. I'm ollder and more mature and see the error of ways from when I was much younger. And, as an accountant, it makes me suspicious when people refuse to take days off.
  23. Just to be clear, it was not about whether he was allowed to be president, it was that he was a black-muslim plant from Kenya. You would need a constitutional amendment to do it. I don't think that there are enough votes to get anything like that passed. I also don't think that there is enough political desire. But, I agree. let the voters decide who they want as President.

Yes, unlike at the beginning, before we knew much about the virus and before we were equipped to protect our frontline workers, we can do systematic shutdowns. We know more and don't need to close everything. Just some things. I don't want our economy to go back into the tank, so we need to kick this in the butt right now!
