  1. I believe our strategy is that we cant improve the team enough with what star players we can afford, so instead of chasing top guys to replace ford/lawler, we are chasing our weakest import positions to improve the weakest chains instead of adding new strongest chains.
  2. He was, Toronto beat us still inside out across the board. Toronto also doesn’t use heads up rushes on the line. Which is why they destroyed all our ol men with every dl they threw out on the field. I can find hope that he improved his ability to improve red zone play call, check downs, and maybe the abundance of out think himself plays/constant trick plays. But I don’t think he will have figured out how to use a mobile qb with out having run an offence with one. Dare or dream but that’s a worst case combination imo.
  3. Randolph is a tackle, he should swap with Lofton who isn’t a T. But Wallace is key. If he takes a step forward, he will easily pass where Dobson was last year. Honestly we won’t be going 3 imp ol now. We are kinda looking locked in on nis now. I’d still love to see Wallace get a pre season game at rt. If he continued to lose weight this off season he should be more than mobile enough.
  4. Better not be if lapo is the oc. Lapo get Masoli, strev with any one else is fine.
  5. He was excellent after 4 ish games or so. He’s a strong starter, but he lacks the consistency. And at that he hasn’t shown nearly enough road grader mentality. If his first punch move doesn’t pancake a guy he just kinda leans. He’s good at reading a guys lean then striking them off balance, but guys with a strong base just aren’t unbalanced much at the pro level.
  6. Honestly we allow it in certain circumstances already. Down field when a scrum forms, and in the red zone it happens frequently. Most red zone sneaks that don’t go up the middle end up being tush push. And I say that knowing full well we have been the biggest offender when it comes to down field scrums.
  7. He wasn’t and I’ve firmly been in the other boat and I’m still not broken up about losing him for a premium pay day. You just can’t go around paying Canadians elite money on potential from a partial good season. Simply not the case. Lawler is a big loss for the 4-6 strong games a year he puts up, not for the 1-3 invisible games and the half season un able to play. Love the talent, not much else.
  8. Looks like we have 1 db, 1 wr, and 1g spot to fill. Db I think we will promote and fill the dime from with in. Wr I think we will replace with a rookie and maybe bring in a low risk high reward vet to fight for the spot, then I think we will have Wallace at guard unless we take another fringe starter free agent into camp at that spot. I think the rest of our free agency is gonna be kicking the tires on dbs, WRs, ol and teams/depth nis.
  9. Rest of the league trying to get wr deals back in line with other premium skill positions and Hamilton screws it up. I love the talent of lawler and Dobson but they aren’t with that.
  10. I’m surprised the run on ol hasn’t started yet. He will likely play 18 games for them, so long as the contract is 2 years or longer lol. I’d bet my house on the under of him playing a full pre season through the playoffs.
  11. Yep. Being able to identify and scoop up 2nd and 3rd year guys from other teams that you can turn into some thing more is the real success indicator. Scouting and bring up rookie Americans takes a lot of time and work. Then they generally need a year to adjust and have the game slow down. Being able to skip those steps is what we excelled at early in the mafia era. A lot of people forget how many of "our guys" came up with different teams.
  12. It's been fairly common the last few years for guys to back out of deals at the 11th hour.
  13. It does start and end in free agency. but your scouting and development has to be at least as productive as free agency if not more. We started our rebuild with randle and bryant, capped it off with rose and biggie. The reality of our situation (and how we are approaching this off-season) is we are looking for the next hardrick type find in free agency. Not the next rose/nevis/bryant etc. I think we are turning over every rock in free agency, except the premium guys. We will see how this continues to play out over the next while.
  14. Really Ted? lmao at least we didn't bring him back
  15. If we go with jones/jones and ayers as our wil/mac and continue the dime sub pack for the wil on some plays I think that hole is already filled. At nose, I think they will also maintain the status quo. Lawson will hopefully take more reps than jake, he and woods will trade off those inside duties. On a side note, I think the rules committee should allow jake to use the waggle. He's soo damn slow it's the only way he can line up off the ball and consistently get to the OL before the ball is thrown. 😂 I really hope he doesn't take as many or more snaps than woods/lawson this year.
  16. Sucks to see lawler go, leaving a second time for cash after the dui injuries etc, don’t really want him back again. I kind of hope we go with a low risk high reward vet on a real good deal, and bring in a bunch of blue chip prospects at wr. Spend more money on the lines.
  17. We certainly can’t when Edmonton is signing half of em lol. Honestly with our record with free agent WRs, I’d be ok if we just brought in some nfl cast offs and college beasts. Spend the money elsewhere.
  18. Yeah if we get one of the next 2-3 guys I’m good with that. Some change finally might do us good. We could certainly use more of a diverse skill set from our WRs.
  19. I think it’s a bit worse this year because of all the sorta un capped media money, and the bc lions still not having been punished for last year. As always, the teams with the fewest players hold over add the most. losing all star players and adding guys well below that tier is a bitter pill to swallow as well. Though I don’t think it’s a bad approach at all if we can get multiple pieces to fill out multiple gaps. I’ll be happy if we add a few more solid starters and depth guys at our positions of greatest need.
  20. Can we have both Nield and Bolo? I can't see demski holding up that much longer, having those two and big kev would put us in a fantastic spot with wr ratio.
  21. I'd be fine with either of those. The elk continue their expansion draft in free agency. hatcher goes back to BC right after being cut to avoid paying him an off season bonus. Like going back to a bad ex here.' I kind of wish the league/pa would step in on this one. Teams shouldn't be able to avoid bonuses this way and bring the guys back, especially right away. Just dirty.
  22. The fact we are hearing he’s been offered that and not accepted it speaks volumes. Calgary’s offer doesn’t change what I think we should be in the market to pay. If lawler have come off an 18 game season where he played at the level we expect from him, then sure. But he isn’t. I don’t think lawler will chase that money to Calgary. which is pretty interesting. A lot of money being thrown around, usually ol command the premium. Might not be the pay day some guys are expecting left. I’d happily take him back, for well under 200k.
  23. And blink was listed at the same 171 for his entire career, and maybe once weighed it. Holm listed as 180 in college and came in 171 on his pro day. If any thing, teams players are and can be smaller. You have far less big bodies on the field for kick and punt return/cover. Only kick block team has the heavy base. Last year the league saw 8 dbs under 170 lbs. If youre a back up db in this league, you are playing teams too. The NFL isn't stuck on arbitrary size limits any more, and the cfl hasn't been for a long long time.
  24. Holm is, and so is the other db on our roster that I listed. Fun fact, there are also 8 players in the NFL under 167 lbs.
  25. Funny thing is, I think this will be the most anticipated of his returns here. Despite how things ended last time. I love the guy, he an excellent football mind, I hope he comes in openminded and willing to evolve his system further. Maybe let Zach call the red zone plays lol. He would also take up the missing WR coach gig, but I think we need to get a qb coach. I mean we have one on our roster right now, We also have parker who is under 180 and holm who in reality is maybe 175. Jake kelly has a couple pounds of change in his pockets for his 180 as well. Gassama at wr is 158 and wilson was 175 at wr as well. For most guys, being 175 plus or minus 5lbs and under 5'10 is similar in terms of make up to being 6' and 185-190. Blocking comes from effort and grit. Not from size. Especially on teams.
