  1. expected it when they grabbed sankey. Goes to show the value of tackles at the lber spot league wide. Funny thing is, sankey and awe are very similar guys. Sankey is better, and not a dirty bird. But not some giant step up. 200k is a solid increase. I’m glad it’s not larger, cfl teams are already struggling to find the mark on value at most positions after the last increase. I do think they should focus increases at qb though. The level or play at qb is abysmal and the brain drain of the nfl is kicking our ass.
  2. i’m loving it. But i’m sure some one will pick him up sadly
  3. How about this, we know in 24 we used the 30 front more than anyone in recent history. North of 60% useage as our base. In 24, our DTs played almost 900 fewer snaps than our Ends. Last year, this gap was 370. Our 30 front usage last year was easily under 15%, with the 4-2 back to being our base. We also actually blitzed more in the last two years than we normally would see. It didn't have a good impact because teams didn't have to take half of our DLs rush attempts seriously. Which is personnel, not system. We got cute replacing the DLs, just like we did replacing the C/OL. Hopefully we are past that now. Yeah, I mean every dl is better with rotation. Wj has always benefited significantly from rotating, and being moved around. He always thrived with the element of surprise. be it rushing from a stand up, playing the nose in cheetah sets, switching sides or taking good size rests.
  4. 100%. The fact is, he doesn't play smart/disciplined. And he doesn't play relentlessly. On top of that, he's lost a step, and the league knows how to block him. You don't see anyone else play for pass knockdowns on the edge. Either in the cfl, nfl or ncaa. If it were an effective means of disruption, it would be happening elsewhere. Especially in the ncaa/nfl where they have far better athletic/size outliers. We gotta hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I'm not sure the team or WJ are really prepared to do what needs to be done in any circumstance. The contract size will speak volumes to that though.
  5. Wj and vaughters were 4th and 6th in the league in pass rush attempts last year. We basically need to cut WJ's snaps in half, and more so on running downs vs running teams. Then we need to replace Vaughters with someone who can play the same volume of snaps at a higher level. Meanwhile, we also need a starting 3-tech. If we are lucky, we will get one of those 2 as a rookie, but almost certainly not the full-time end. So we'd need to sign 2 of the top 5-ish DL FAs, maybe less than that now. And sign another guy to compete with a rookie we would hope wins. If we don't spend a lot, and extremely well, and hit a ROTY type on the dl, the dl will be more of the same. Bringing back WJ isn't awful if he's cheap. if hes back for that big payday again, we are basically screwed short of winning the lotto.
  6. He isnt. And its not the system. But we better hope he still can be good.
  7. I love Tait, but that article is insanely disjointed from reality. WJ hasn't been that guy since JJ last played here. If you include his sacks, he made 1 stop per game last year. This includes not recording a stat for 4 weeks in a row and 6 weeks in total. Despite that, he still didn't put up more than 2 tackles in a game. In the last 3 seasons, he has 4 games with 3 tackles or more, and 17 games without a stat recorded. It's not just that he disappears in the run game; he is actively attacked and exploited by other teams in read option plays. He isn't a force, and hasn't been for a long time. Sacks are down, yes, but everything is in the toilet for wj outside of pkds. His "Highly Decorated" achievements are all from years ago. He hasn't been close to that level of play or accomplishment since then. He isn't that leader. That was always the other guys. Look at the continual errors and poor discipline on the DL. It's not just that he isn't correcting it in others; he is a big part of that issue himself. The entertainer? It's just clowning around when you continually underachieve as a team, unit, and player. We didn't use the 30 front remotely as much as we used it in 24. And front alignment is separate from pressure. The most disruptive teams in football use fronts interchangeably. They break the play down by front alignment, pressure package, and cover package. And teams don't sit there and double wj a lot any more. They don't have to. He is going to coast and play for the PKD. PKDs, are the only consistent direct value he brings to the field. He does it at the expense of not just his pressure but the entire line's ability to disrupt. When you line up in a 40, and 1 guy is going to play rover looking for knockdowns, you aren't going to get pressure. Nichols was 2nd in the league in PKDs, with 13. While still doing his primary job of covering as well as anyone in the league, and playing a gap in the run fits. Our Defence saw 574 passing attempts. 357 of those were completed. That means 217 plays where the pass was not completed; of those 217 plays, WJ had 16 knockdowns. That means 7% of our pass incompletion success came from WJ. Tait mentions Betts in and the drop in sack production. Lets compare impact but instead, lets compare with Hicks. And lets say Hicks only won 10% snaps than WJ, lets ignore sacks, and count PKDs but only WJs. WJ had more snaps than hicks, so lets also give him that and reduce hicks effectiveness by going by WJs 529 passing snaps. If WJ won 10% of his snaps, that would be 52 disruptions, plus 16 PKDs, for 68. If Hicks won 20%, thats 104 disruptions. But then, if we go back to reality, Hicks had 28 tackles with 12 sacks in 465 passing plays. On a 20% win rate he is having a significant impact on 93 plays. Vs 15 tackles and 3 sacks in 529 passing plays. In reality, with PKDs we are lucky if WJ impact 10% total of all passing plays against us last year. Significantly more snaps, significantly less total impact. 30 alignment doesn't mean we only rushed 3. Jones and Kyrie tied WJ for sacks, plus another lber and db with a sack.
  8. Hope its cheap. And hope he finds a motor to play with. Or that he is limited in reps. qft Yeah its gotta be a real battle for spots, especially on the lines. Peeples might be best off in a super sub role, because hes soo raw and the season is long. Wj plus a guy like that splitting reps would be great.
  9. I don’t think he’s related to shonte peeples. Tremendous raw talent as a pass rusher and play maker.Didn’t play hs. Lead all of juco in sacks. bounced around colleges, didn’t put up the crazy sacks after he left juco but he did have incredible win rates and lead the conference in pressures. Has a motor that doesn’t quit. And makes a lot of plays in the run game. Hes smaller, but strong and extremely disruptive. Hes one to be excited about seeing in camp.
  10. A game might put IMG vs bishop sycamore to shame lol
  11. If they had the option, NFL teams would be going with HS kids over cis kids.
  12. Hard to tell, but I'm expecting a lot of guys to be vacuumed up from this class again. I think we would be lucky to see 8+ of the guys in the top 20 actually available in this draft.
  13. Good point. I actually like logan as an offensive weapon X type more than as a KR. Awesome job, I hate how the CFL does theirs too. I wish they would have one like this on the main page for the off season.
  14. all true. it would also be expensive and complicated to get the rights to advertise stuff like that from other leagues. It could also come off very poorly if not done well. and the league hasn’t done a great job at any thing marketing wise in ages.
  15. I've seen a bunch of players and coaches in the NFL say that the talent gap between the NFL and the CFL is not huge. We don't have the top-tier outliers, and don't keep them when we find them, but average imp starter to starter it is way closer than people realize. The consistency of players, coaches, and systems here is too much for the UFL to overcome. Even though we see a lot of turn over with in the league each year, its still a lot of guys staying in the league and with similar systems. The top tier in the UFL is very good. The problem is that below that, it drops off a massive cliff.
  16. Yep, and if they aren't going to play him, or develop him while on the bench, he can bail. That is the hidden story behind all the fledgling leagues—Guys living in cars, surviving on a tub of PB and a loaf of bread. When you pull that rug out from under them, they don't have any fail-safes to catch them. A lot of guys in indy ball living the same life. In the past, the minor leagues had them too. Though it's better now. At the end of the day, the NFL understands that they don't have much of a clue what separates booms from busts or how to develop talent reliably. So they bury it down and rely on the sheer number of kids flowing into the NCAA to supply them. Thats why you don't see scouts/GMs fired for awful bust picks. Some teams have some positions figured out, within the constraints of their system. But none of them have QB or OT figured out like that.
  17. All of that, coming up mid-way through last year, would've been great for him. Could've still looked at the NFL window this year for camp invites. The NFL wants to see guys like that produce in the pros, like Stiggers and Alford. They will kick the tires and use you in camp/ps, but breaking into the AR is very different. Even Rourke didn't do enough up here and in camp/ps down there to lock in a spot. And he really earned it. If Elgersma is really smart, he is using this as an opportunity to accelerate his growth and speed up his adjustment to higher levels of play.
  18. It's a hard call for him, to be fair. He's 23, about to turn 24, and easily 2 years away from playing here or in the UFL. By the time he has the base amount of film and experience to get back to the NFL window, he is turning 28, and at the end of his window. UFL pay will be close to what he would get here, and each will be about equal to a couple of weeks on an NFL PR. He's still getting workouts, and he played well enough in PS to be on an NFL PR. If I was him, I would play in the UFL this year, and try to make an NFL PR out of camp. I'm sure he would get a camp invite from someone. If an NFL PR offer doesn't come at that point, sign up here. With the coaching down south, and playing against that level of competition in 2 camps plus the UFL, he would likely be at the same level as a 2nd year imp qb out of camp. If not higher. Still plenty young enough to get good money and win a spot here. And still have a bit of long term NFL hope. I also think that is the best-case scenario for us. The seasoning he'd get in NFL camp and pre-season is far greater than he would get doing the same here. He grew up playing Canadian ball; the nuances are not so far removed for him. The worst case, for us, him and the NFL dream, is he doesn't get an NFL camp invite or ends up on a team that only lets him hold a clipboard, then sits and waits for an NFL pr offer that isn't coming and burns another year, while also not getting reps in the UFL. But even in that event, it isn't terrible for us if he comes up then. You sign him to a long-term deal and lock in cheap.
  19. sounds like they are moving on from grant
  20. And vaval will be back for this year. Hes one of the more interesting year 2 guys to see. It’ll be hard to continue his performance from the last 2/3s or so of last year. But if he can take a step forward at db and be more useful as a back up, and more consistent and secure in the kr game we will be in a great spot. There is a decent chunk of guys im excited to see in year 2. If a couple have that game slowing down process we could see some new star power on this team.
  21. Leg strength isn't an issue really. Consistency, mechanics, style/fit, those have been his question marks. He doesn't have one of those flip field positions when pinned deep in your own zone legs, as Ryan did. But it's more than fine. We aren't that type of team anyway. Early last year and prior to that, he was shanking atleast 1 a game, and pooching ones, leaving the returning running up for a free 15 yards atleast once a game as well. If he keeps that all in the past, he's solid and fits our system well. I'd love to replace him, and love to have a punter who can flip field position. But that isn't super high priority. James evans ended the season on the riders PR iirc, I'd love to have him back in camp again.
  22. Pretty sure he is toast. But we always like to make sure a guy is absolutely ruined before we give up. He 100% wont be the guy he was before injuries again. Will he ever be a useful player in the cfl again? dunno. We have basically 1 imp wr at this point. Which is crazy. We need more than 1 guy to add. We need 2 starting wrs and a back up. Plus another canadian for depth at least.
  23. he significantly cut down on the shanks after a couple weeks. I think we could do more with greater punt depth given the depth and talent we have on teams, but i’m not surprised by this move it’s pretty solid. I also hope we bring in tough camp competition like we should at all positions. Very happy sergio is back. It’s been an excellent beginning to the off season. Walter’s has finally done well with what is in our control. We have dished out some big pay days, but no reason we can’t make it work in free agency still. Of what’s left for our fas, I expect big stan to get his deal done, I’d like makonzo back, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we bring back one or more of the imp wrs. I think schoen is pretty toast but we could sit him for a year on the 6 game. I like sterns as a scrappy over achiever, wouldn’t mind him back on the cheap. Wheatfall id be happy to move on from but who knows he could be back. Wr, and Dl are going to be big holes needing filling from fa. Then ol would be huge to add 1 guy. Powell would be tremendous to get as well.
  24. I would love to see the TC 1 cis/ni qb allotment carried into the regular season. Free PR spot for 1 ni qb, maybe have it optional and eventually required. Then give an incentive for having one on the AR, maybe their salary doesn't count against the cap as a back up. Then if they start, you gain the di or maybe you can use a nat american even if they don't have the tenure. Could also bake Canadian QBs into the draft pick compensation for starting Canadians.
  25. He did. In camp he played about as much corner as S, maybe a bit more. Then he played both in pre season, and was forced into action at corner for one game before he started at S as well.
