Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

 

Anyone else into this?

 

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

 

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

 

House of Cards was tremendous.

 

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

 

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

 

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

I watched 3 episodes of the new Magnum PI. Back in the fall & it did nothing for me. How the hell did it get renewed?

Pretty much nothing gets cancelled anymore.

correction, nothing gets cancelled on CBS anymore, it's as if Crime Shows have a secret or something that keeps them on the air

Yeah, okay iHeart. Whatever you say. They're going to cancel Blue Bloods.  A series that consistently draws 8.5 million viewers in the US on CBS at 10 pm on Fridays after 9 seasons. My problem with the new Magnum PI is it isn't anything like the old show. Magnum doesn't look like Magnum should. Higgins is a woman... (just because)… so why reboot a show that was off the air for 30 plus years? Just have the new show called something else with the backdrop of Honolulu. Viewers love Hawaii. I'm sure that's why it is being renewed. CBS can't lose using Hawaii.

Yes, that is my point. It could have been called something else & probably people would have watched.  As far as a reboot goes, it sucks.

My issue too.  I watched it and it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t magnum. 

I understand the idea of having a female lead or co star. The original series gave hem a perfect set up. Magnum’s daughter. 

You don’t even need selleck in every episode. If, say, Robin/Higgins left the estate to Magnum and maybe it was in disarray. Magnum returns to the estate for Higgins funeral and finds out the estate is now his.  His daughter is following in his footsteps and agrees to look after the estate. Magnum could appear from time to time. 

At least then, it’s emotionally connected to the original and yet can still be free to be new and different.
