Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
From Penton: The Riders released Picard because he was due a $140,000 bonus on Jan. 1, according to a source, and they weren't willing to pay it. The Bombers, who created quite a bit of 2015 salary cap before the end of December, stepped up to the plate immediately with a two-year deal for Picard that will pay the 32-year-old north of $195,000 per season, according to a source. http://www.thewhig.com/2015/01/06/bombers-welcome-back-dominic-picard

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
Walters basically committed to Picard as our starting centre this season at today's presser. Banks was our SAM too. All of this is how I feel. I tweeted this morning that the whole thing reminds me of Banks last year, and I got shouted down by a few people. I'll believe the Picard hype when I see it in the summer.Situations aren't similar at all. Banks was released because his GM thought he was washed up. His GM was right. Picard was released for cap reasons, the season after winning his teams top OL award. And Riders tried to bring him back on a restructured contract.

Could you tweet back that Heenan won't be a free agent for 6 more weeks? If he even reaches free agency. Lawless has been banging the Walters needs to sign Heenan drum for 3 months now. Save it till early February when it means something.I normally would but he's already blocked me once. Gotta be careful now that I'm on probation with Lawless.

Thanks guys. So Holmes is primarily a guard. Interesting...

I asked the question so I care. Does anyone know?

Is Holmes a guard or tackle?

Ian Wild has NFL contract in hand
Long-snapper.

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
You are mistaken. He played RT with the Riders I believe, and maybe a bit in preseason for the Bombers, but never for the Bombers in the regular season.

I don't recall Neufeld starting any games at RT last year. Do you mean RG?

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
GBill's convinced Neufeld starts at tackle. I am NOT convinced Neufeld starts at tackle. I proposed that as a very early option of what the OL could look like if the season started tomorrow. Wow.

Based on the number of injuries on the OL last season, I want solid NI OL depth. So yes I'm fine with a 120k insurance policy in a Grey Cup year. And if we start 4 NI's on the OL, Morley would be the 6th OL, not 7th.

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
Yea, I don't disagree with that part. What else is really being speculated on? Other than a comment I already said I was wrong for making. The speculation that Morley will be gone.

Khari is staying with the Lions as an offensive assistant under Cortez.

Lots of reading between the lines going on in this thread after Walters presser. Either I'm really dense today, or there LOTS of speculating going on here, and people imagining things that just aren't there.

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard
That's not what I heard at all at the presser.

Ian Wild has NFL contract in hand
Brutal news for us. A new long-snapper is now a priority.

Ian Wild has an NFL contract in hand. Walters will release him shortly.

And I don't understand why some are suggesting the Bombers should not cut Steve Morley. He's still a very valuable asset. You don't just go and cut a starting Canadian OL At worst, Morley is our 6th OL this season. Competition is always a good thing. I see the OL shaping up like this: LT - January/Daniels LG - Greaves C - Picard RG - Goossen/Morley RT - Neufeld 6th - Morley/Goossen That's some nice Canadian OL depth. A stud import tackle would be the icing on the cake.

For those complaining about Picard's age...for comparison sake, Josh Bourke is the exact same age. Just sayin...
