Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Dreamcatcher replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The only replacement required on the o-line is a solid center. We could do that hopefully in the off season. On the D-Line, I am not as sure. I was thinking replace Jake with a solid Canadian if one comes available, but we have solid guys for the D-Line in house that are not played. (At least in my opinion as a couch coach)* I am afraid, however, there will be very little changes in the off season if O'Shea remains Head Coach. No offense to him or those that love him, but when guys are done or not as good as the opposition, its time to make changes...most Championship teams do...I am perplexed at our lack of depth at some positions and our HC seems to be turning a blind eye to this team, despite hosting the Grey Cup this year...something they NEW well before pre-season. Its hard for me to say, but I think that it should be the end of the Canadian Mafia this season. All 3 should be let go. Not just Walters and Osh....but Miller as well. He's too cheap. He likely instructed Walters to keep salaries down....despite this being a Grey Cup Year....top that off with Osh stubbornly playing guys who are past expiry dates or that show him a lunch pail attitude in practices, as opposed to some with outstanding talent that don't always go as hard in practice but save it for game day. I am not suggesting that if you dont work hard in practice that you should be allowed to play, but its a fact alot of solid vets dont always go hard anymore in practice. This team also needs depth at all positions that can step in without the team missing a beat. In the days gone by, we had Clements and Hufnagel...2 actual QB'S...now we have Collaros, who seems to be on his last legs, and Streveler that isnt very effective this year, and a reluctance to try our back up QB'S or trade for a guy that is young, has shown talent in this league, and may be available for as little as a draft pick. Most on here are not your average fans, so I dont think that when we point out huge flaws that we are wrong. This team started 3-0 with a healthy defense...Parker at Safety, Bond was in the secondary...but we are 3-7 since, and its apparent that if you use injuries as an excuse, then we are lacking solid depth. I see some of our rookies as promising, and of course they are learning the CFL game, but I sure hope they dont go status quo next year as well. Our O-Line, D-Line, Secondary, Linebackers, Depth...all need to be addressed. -

There's alot of rookies in the secondary right now, and not enough pressure from the front. Lets see if these rookies can continue to grow, and learn before the playoffs arrive. If we can win some games, then get healthy, get Houston up to speed, we may be alright. I would like to see Adams and Woods more, and Woodbey appears to have some talent. If we dont have enough push up the middle, guys like Jefferson, Person and Vaughters arent effective, and I am not sold on Tony Jones at middle linebacker. In short, our Defense has alot of good pieces but how their used is another question. Right now, there's too much pressure on the Secondary to carry the load when our Linebackers and D-Line should be more effective. Offensively, using Collaros to scramble or to have a enough time to check down and throw, and to be able to hand the ball to one of our most effective weapons in Brady is all so important. With this O-Line right now, their best option when calling throwing plays is for Collaros is to throw on the run. The offensive lines interior features an aging Neufeld, an ineffective Kolo, and a rookie/sophomore in Wallace. Wallace is on the learning curve right now, Neufeld has seen better days, and many if not all here agree that our center isnt very good at all and that means everyone is compensating for his short comings. Is Wallace and Neuf better than what were seeing but they are compensating every game for Kolo? Probably. Do we have options at center? Does anyone have a back up center that is very promising and that we can use and suffer growing pains with? I am not sure. We all though Eli was that guy easily. Apparently not. As far as receivers go, we could use one more guy, since we all know Schoen needed more time, Mitchell is improving, Demski is always solid, Clercius is continuing to improve, and we have injuries there so I am not as worried at receiver as other areas. Really our biggest concern is a lack of depth when guys go down. Hopefully we figure this all out by the playoffs, because winning the Cup is all I care about. -

I agree we need more from our O-Line and our D-Line.... On the positive note, Allen and Vaval, and Lawson Jr. are getting better on the D... Schoen may be ready for real, and Ontaria Wilson could be back as well, both will greatly improve our receiving core.... The addition of Houston on D should improve our pass defense, since key pieces will no longer feel the need to compensate... Collaros appears to be using his mobility more suddenly, again, which makes the O-Line less of a priority than the D-Line, which needs to create much more pressure to take that same pressure off the D-Backs...Perhaps the return of Lawson on the D-Line will help? We have some holes that's for sure.... -

I dont think we need a complete rebuild. We do need, urgently, to fill spots where we are weak obviously. Bonds spot, maybe safety, unless we can place the right person there. We do have some injuries right now, and poor depth to replace those players. Thomas on the DL, for example becomes further exposed. I dont think our O-Line is that bad, aside form the Center position which may be among the weakest in The CFL. This position as we all know, anchors the line, so that to me is the issue. Since a replacement is not forth coming, the Offensive Coaches must take a look at our beat up QB'S and design an Offense that allows them time to check down or get outside. Zach would be required to scramble more. Its tough. We are missing key receivers this year that hid our deficiencies in Zach's pass attack. Coaches should have seen this coming, but the players and Assistants really bailed O' Shea out the last few years. A couple of receivers would help us. I like many, thought Schoen and Mitchell would've been those guys. The Coaches thought so too. They guessed wrong. The thing is, that's their job. Not ours. I like many fans, watch the players to see who makes plays, and who doesnt. What do the Coaches see that we dont? Are Woods and Allen on the P.Q not as good as our starters? Lets find out. Allen played some Safety before the season started. This Coaching staff, and Management above are responsible for this, so knowing this is a home Grey Cup, what can be done to fix it, because the other teams in the league are not going to help us out. -

Our O-line must be better. We have injuries there, however watching kolo get bowled over makes the guards job harder on either side. -

This team has some work to do even after winning. I can't be sure if the issue on offense is the coordinator, or Collaros and Streveler, or both. I would like to see what Wilson can bring. Still, there is alot of games to go and in season changes and tweaks are likely. Everyone has opinions, mine were more Griffin and no Parker at safety. Now, I would like to see more Kelly at safety and the way they used Jefferson to knock down passes in the 2nd half was incredibly effective. -
Agreed. Sometimes pro athletes stop listening. Happens in all sports. That aside, something isn't right with Collaros. He should still be serviceable. His arm isn't the same. We could use another receiver. Parker may not be the answer at safety. Others are compensating for some sort of broken coverage over and over because Toronto receivers, like Calgary are getting open. Alot. The D-line was better tonight, but I'm not convinced the starting linebackers are the right combo. Tony Jones had 2 sacks tonight but I'm more concerned with coverage and what plays he is seeing develop while in his position. The same can be said with Kramdi and his coverage. I don't know. Some of what I saw can be corrected but it should've been corrected after Calgary. Missed tackles POOR tackles...I believe realistically O'Shea should be fired and maybe that's the fire that needs to be lit. What's happening now, compared to the first 3 games?
-
Alof of missed tackles, no full effort out there...yac yards for Toronto receivers, catch after catch. I don't know if what I'm seeing is on the coaching staff, or players that are not good enough anymore, or has O'Shea lost the team? No one can stop Arbuckle from almost getting a 1st down one in one? There's some guys that need to be replaced immediately on this team if only to show others complacency and lazy play or continually missed assignments won't be accepted. There's players on the pr and 1 game that are waiting to show the coaches they have game.
-
Hi. From what I was seeing, he was overcompensating for others not being in position. I believe he could be inserted for Bridges, since Bridges was having considerable difficulty against Calgary receivers in both games. The other spot I am not convinced about is Parker at Safety. He started the season great, but not so much against Calgary. I am used to Alexander and his major league hits I guess. Perhaps this has more to do with our front 7 than I believe?
-
I know but I think he should be a starter
-
Griffin has shown he is a baller in this secondary. I dont recall seeing much of him lately. Im not sure why J.Jones was signed not to start.
-
Agreed. Play guys like Ayers, Mitchell, Person, J. Jones, Woods, Griffin (a hell of a lot more), but even if these guys are inserted in the lineup, there's still others I am not sold on at all. We need to bring consistent pressure and contain on the opposition QB'S to make the job of the Secondary easier. Guys like Bonds and Nichols didn't suddenly become poor players. Our O-Line has to be able to make Collaros job way easier but there's a couple of changes I would make there as well when Stanleys back. He still has the ability to make all his reads and check downs, however when the balls leaving his hands, the accuracy isn't as spot on as it has been in the past. He doesn't scramble enough; thus he tries to throw into coverage and loses those battles more than he wins. He also doesn't have an All-Star receiving core.
-
Hey. I haven't posted here for years. Nice to be back. I'm afraid guys like Thomas, Jefferson, Bridges, Tony Jones, Kolankowski, Kramdi and a few others are not the solution. It seems other teams are more than willing to make changes when necessary but we are not. Sure...many will say that pro coaches know more than fans that have more than casual knowledge but I can't help but think that it's obvious after being beat twice by 5-1 Calgary that changes are very necessary. Why sign J.Jones and not play him? Also, Person couldn't be worse than Willie, and Griffin is a baller whom I believe is under used. He could slide into Kramdi's spot or replace Bridges easily. Maybe Ayers could slide into Kramdi's spot because his coverage at times is suspect considering how long he has been on this defence. I know. I'm not a coach...but my knowledge is more than a casual fan. Our O-line, D-Line and Linebackers are not good enough and some like Booch spoke of this while we were winning...and then there's the QB's and receivers. Demski can't do it all, so why isn't Mitchell starting?? We signed him to start! Collaros...Strev...we all saw this coming. We're a bit screwed right now to be honest. No ones giving us anything so maybe we need to reconsider some guys we released, back ups on the roster, PR, and...yes.. trades. But... I think we will status quo because the truth is, our Coach is incredibly stubborn.
-
Actually I'm hoping Taylor Reeds on our Radar...MLB for Hamilton Last year....6'0 235 lbs...8 sacks, 1 interception, 62 tkls....23 years old...M.Bowman back in the fold would be nice, Hickman at one DE spot....Van Zeyl, Rogers at the Tackles spots with Heenan being the #1 priority......then Reed.....IMHO...

I disagree with the suggestion that Neufeld isnt really that good. He is 24, and not starting with the Riders is more indicative of how strong their starting 5 are. "Neufelds got good physical stature, good athletic ability and the rudiments of a really good offensive lineman," said offensive line coach Steve Buratto. "He's been well-coached at the University of Saskatchewan and being at training camp last year helped. "He's a good, sound, fundamental football player>" Now, I know some of you are a little more humble and not trying to be armchair football coaches, but for those of you whom assume you know more than a guy whom has coached in alot of different positions in the CFL for over 20 years I'm more likely to listen to Buratto, whom has won a Grey Cup, appeared in another, and taken his team to the Semis. The kid will be a starter. I actually predict that our O-Line will likely have Parenteau at center next year, with Jones and January at Tackle and Neufeld as one of our starting guards and Greaves as the other. Pencer could challenge, though I dont think he's ready yet.

Pascucci Tweet: Bombers To Sign CFL Vet RB This Week
Dreamcatcher replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Unfortunately, I am going to have to guess Cory Boyd, based on his evasive replies on his Twitter. I hope I am wrong, but...he's not exactly denying it. I am a little puzzled by this move since it shows no confidence in Volny at all, and none in Ford unless he is indeed injured. Our areas of need are obvious to me anyone?? O-line and Secondary first. QB situation second. Depth 3rd.
