  1. CFL rosters only allow to sit so many guys any way.....and works in reverse as well....You don't play the "regs" against a team using their actual schemes too...then just trot out there when it means something and hope they can solve whatever a team is doing on its first look at it can be a recipe for failure too.... I hope they sit a few what they consider key players...and we trounce em...and the pundits yammer on with the "yeah buts"....be the perfect scenario in my opinion
  2. the Argo offence has been seen already...like all the other teams, and there is nothing they are "holding" out on any more than us...or any team for that matter
  3. yes.....saving there as well, as you ae not having to account for 2 salaries for 1 position on the roster
  4. when you work your SMS you allocate the whole salaries if all bonuses and hard money is met, and also you allocate certain amount for injuries....etc....so it's actually not a matter of that coming out of savings on the 6 game...thats not how it works....GM's have pools of money in 3 piles to make it simple that they divy up prior to making roster...and those piles will fluctuate as they build and the actual hard numbers become realized....so essentially yes it's a lot of pure surplus....my understanding, and recall is that the smart gm's will allocate between 4-7 entry level deal portions of money...pro-rated to varying degrees for injury management
  5. yeah I know...I edited i and excepted it this time...I guess big Willie was just too much for the censors hahaa most guys mentioned if at all other than Lawler got next to nothing upfront...or if did was minimal...and that 42k will basically be nice up front money for BO toward 2024 but paid in 2023
  6. same....lil tired of the TSN love fest....they a good team I agree, and obviously have a free ticket to the Grey Cup in the East, but I don't think they as good as many like to think...so I think a BC/Sask game would be enough to shut their pie holes They have beat Ham 3 times...Mtl 2 times and Ott....so 6 pretty easy games there...sure we lost to Ott...but not putting much stock into that Lost to Cgy, then beat em by 1 TD....calgary record be damned is better than those 3 teams they have been feasting on, and had the luxury of 3 byes already....not sold on them one bit yet....so that game here is gonna be the litmus test on who the top dawg is, and who should be the Grey Cup favorite in my opinion I dont think the NFL Teams could care less, or will put much time and effort into that anyway....they not in the business of developing projects for the odd chance one becomes a role player
  7. yeah we need more a move toward some the ST guys being of the ilk that they could start...like legitimate start quality...not this reward system, and mindset that all the guys are #1's....yeah sure looks good in sound bites, and in the paper, but it is hardly accurate I can see WJ still being a big part of 2025....mayyybe Jeffcoat if he stays healthy, and why not when guys like Lemon...M. Johnson, Laurent, Hughes were still impactful in the 34 to 36 age range, but the successors need to be in-house now....next yr at latest getting reps and developing...Haba from the first looks we got seems legit, and a free agent pick up could also be part of it... (Kongbo and Bennett) for the ratio aspect Biggie I can see possibly only around as a part time role player, and leader...not the starter, and likely at a reduced salary too....but his presence on ST and as a bit player will be invaluable in a Grey Cup Run, but in 2025 he will be turning 37 so he could be phased out that yr
  8. If anything...I think this will be more a statement game than any this yr...especially heading into the bye with T.O next up...at home before another sold out crowd....I will not be shocked to see a repeat of the B.C/SASK beat downs as well truth be told yeah....there not gonna be a 2022 Ham trip result this yr
  9. you have to remember...Gauthier...Lawrence....Clements...Haba....all did full stints, and save for Haba the other 3 were not on entry level deals... when all said and done we will have likely 500 to 600k approx that was supposed to be for this yr go toward upfront money for 2024...we should be just fine with re-upping the guys who will need a nice bump Plus....we likely had NFL returnee money allocated as well for a possible pick-up that will likely go un-used as I don't see us going that route this yr...unless something really intriguing comes our way....Walters always allocates an amount each yr for that... yeah...Like i say....we will have about 500 to 600k saved on 6 gamer money...thats a huge amount to re-sign key guys that won't go against the 2024 SMS...allowing us to then resign some key vets who won't be getting a big boost for 2024....and or a potential FA target. And highly likely we will be shedding some of of our vet contracts in Thomas...Briggs....I bet Miller...Pretty sure one of Neuf/Gray....Lawrence....Darby...so with 2025 cup in our house you may see a lot of 2 yr deals coming up as well
  10. I actually figured it is closer to 600k actually...U had Lawler....Grant...Hansen...Lawrence...Rose...Miller, Gauthier...Wilson..Now Darby...Miller round 3...Hansen round 3....even guys like Clements and Haba...all adds up off the books and available for 2024
  11. If unsay so..haha...some of that management should have been jettisoned this yr as we work to the 2025 home cup appearance Yeah...isn't that the ironic and yet funny part...and play there basically in obscurity and next to zero accolades from fans...was just an ego driven search for big money not necessarily warranted
  12. Guarantee that occurs...and we have a nice cache of it too which will go a long way
  13. which means wayyyyy too much Jake......ouch again
  14. this is just vet maintenance, and has occurred with JJ before...much ado bout nuttin"
  15. he's already sucker their will to take him on now...haha another point with BO...barring him getting hurt he likely gonna crush Harris's best rushing numbers in a season
  16. I think Woli, Demski and Lawler are all locked in for 2024...so its a matter of greasing Schoens wheels and rewarding Bailey with a bump if we choose to continue that pathe...and with our group...why not unless we find the next Schoen/Lawler in TC and let Bailey go...or move him
  17. coming from a former defensive player I agree...even in warm weather....The smaller scat backs and shifty guys are more preferred as more time than not they running away from you, and aren't taxing on you other than just maintaining your lanes and having good cardio.....The guys like BO look for you and punish you, and trust me...you feel those collisions alot during the game, and when you repeatedly are exposed to them, you subconsciously start to avoid some of the contact, even tho you may not intend to...just way it is, and you see it with BO that as games go on....he gets hit less, but is still running guys over, and looking for them....beats you up Come chilly ball, it compounds matters...another thing second level guys hate O-lineman following up plays and keeping the flow going, and Winnipeg does it to a man in spades....guys tend to try and just get out of way and aren't focused on the battering ram coming downhill at them Good example look at last game...how many times did you see Riders swarming around the ball carrier...kinda tiptoeing around him, but just waiting for the sacrificial lamb to stick his nose in there and initiate the gang tackle...a whole lot is what you will see....
  18. thats prob why Agudosi still here...and if he is actually given a real opportunity, and had balls thrown at him...he will produce...He's a valuable asset sitting there, and you know if he was cut loose he would be signed immediately and in a starting lineup somewhere When you think about it....other than almost any other teams top receiver, who would step in here and supplant one of our starters and do what they are required to do?...I can think of a few, but there is a reason Agudosi isn't cracking the lineup...just no spot for him or anyone right now
  19. Oh yeah Kenny is 2 yrs....forgot...that being said Schoen will likely be in a 200 to 250k range for his second deal I would guess, and likely a good 1/3rd of that at minimum going against this yrs cap...Will some team offer more...likely....but who's that team and where they headed?...big pieces to the equation....and Schoen has seen how guys here work, and what they take in salaries to allow the team to be continually successful, and he seems like he is the same type of guy, so I would be totally shocked if he just took the highest bidder.... we have at least 600k Saved to go toward 2024....and yeah Edm is straddled with guarantees money in a lame duck QB...which won't help them, and is Lewis a multi yr deal?...he and Dunbar both are making prob almost 470k between them...and look how that has panned out...same as last yr paying a WR 300k with a dirt cheap QB salary...they cant do that now I see no issue with this team keeping who they want to keep....it may take a couple vets not being re-upped, but won't be key vets by any means
  20. If you can't find quality import o-lineman your scouting staffs need to be revisited, and thats why quality O-lineman who are Nationals will cost a pretty penny, tho some teams have way over spent (BC..OTT...EDM) but sometimes you need to to get a guy in those early stages of a build. We had to with Bryant, and then some good drafting got us a pipeline of Centers to build out from....thats how you do it....That way you only really need to go out and find 1 interior guy to bring it together and save SMS as you build rest from the draft. Bryant then subsequent trade for Neufeld allowed us to do that, and have the staff to see talent in players others didnt (Hardrick at a lighter weight out at tackle)) and we had a progression from Goosen...Couture and now will be Eli, Chungh to Desjarlais...to Gray...Dobson....pretty hefty turn-over and no real steps back, if anything steps forward. you cant build an oline in FA without sacrificing everywhere else on the roster, and even then have nothing behind it, especially if you dont use forward thinking in your draft...Thats why Sask gonna struggle for yrs yet...Can't replace em all with big bucks....and guys they have tried to develop just aren't that good.
  21. and we wont...no team will Kenny I bet will make same roughly as this yr, and Schoen under that...likely combined under 500k....also good bet both Schoen and BO will be extended prior to end of fiscal year, with a nice chunk going against 2023 SMS Only team who would throw insane money around stupidly is a team who isn't paying a Marquee QB...and what receiver will wanna really go to that scenario?...
