I actually applaud the Riders for having the balls to do what we should have done.

Anyone else in the league, if they had the opportunity, would do the exact same thing. People can criticize us all they want, but why shouldn't we hire all those coaches from Edmonton? There is no strict rule regarding this, so there is no reason to complain about it.

I do think that CFL teams should have to adhere to some type of front office/ coaching cap.

Yeah, yeah, I've heard the arguments -- business owners should be free to spend what they want, save the cap for the on-field only, blah blah.

But this is the CFL. It's perpetually a season or two away from extinction. In fact, its already awash in apathy, at least in area codes like 416, 905, and 604.

The more parity in the league, the better.

  2. Was just saying to Dave, "How much fun would it be, if all this backfired on everyone? Jones bombs in Sask (imagine Durant is perma-injured), Lapo gets hired (pleeeeease!!!) in Edm and flops, Wally in BC is a distinct possibility of flopping, and who knows if DD can handle the big headset?? Call it sour grapes if you must, but it'd do my heart good to see everyone else burning..."

Yeah, but we have the Miller-Walters-O'Shea Flaming Hoop Of Mediocrity. The other franchises may be question marks, but our missing the playoffs again is basically guaranteed.

  3. Miller brought us MB his next gift to the organization will be Khari Jones.

    Bank on it.

Guarantee the rumblings about "Wade reaching out to coaches still under contract" was in fact Wade talking to Khari.

Probably said "it's not tampering, we own a Booster Juice together."

Not saying he isn't a step up over MB, but still. Why does this have to be the Bomber way?

  4. Miller was the epitome of a nepotism hire. Local boy, Bomber alumni, son of a Bomber (and former board member).

Doesn't make him incapable of doing the job. Just shows how the franchise operates.

The fact that Miller did the "exhaustive search" for his buddy Walters should have been the writing on the wall. It was for me.

I personally lost a lot of respect for Miller when he "announced his retirement" -- at the Pinnacle head office. Cant pass up free publicity huh Wade? While Lamar McGriggs, who was ten times the player Miller ever was, gets a cursory mention in a throwaway news release.

And thats why we can't win a Cup in 25 years -- in a 8-10 team league.

  5. The BoD has about as much influence on the on-field product as you or I, yet every month or two there are people complaining about them.  They hire the CEO.  They set overall governance policy for the organization.  They review financials and set goals.  That's about it.  They do not have ANYTHING to do with the football operations of the team. Nothing, nada, zilch.  Now having said that, we'll still have people trying to blame them for the team's record, but every now and then I like to try and point out that blaming them for the win/loss is like blaming the board of Ford/GM/Chrysler when your car breaks down.

    Right -- see the bolded.

I questioned the decision they made when it happened. And now, considering our record, I blame them for it.

Taman and Tillman have a lot of baggage, but Higgins might be a better choice for head coach. Higgins' experience as a possible GM is iffy.

Tillman by far would be the best choice, he's been actively recruiting for the Ti-Cats and still doing a great job but his reputation is probably too much for the fans to stomach right now.

Tillman is poison. Groping teenage girls...

Well, guy did his time. At what point do you let someone move on?

Not saying I would want to be friends with the guy but at least he can do the job.

Walters seems like a nice guy. Probably a cool dude. Fricken terrible GM.

  7.

If an OC has inspirations of being a HC, maybe that will actually draw them here.   :)

If you look at the history of this club in the last few years, whoever get promoted on an "interim" basis automatically gets the gig in the off season.   If O'Shea gets fired mid season, he'd have a 50/50 shot of becoming HC.

I like that thought but it'd have to be a Chris Jones type. I think it's incredible what he has accomplished in Edmonton in just a few short years. Why, oh why can't we land guys like that?

Because the GM hired the HC. And our GM is sub-par.

And the only reason our GM is still employed is because he's Miller's guy.

This train went off the rails the day Miller lied about our "exhaustive" GM search. Everything else that has transpired since then can be traced to that total inside hire.

Team won't get better until we let better people run it.

  8. 12 wins, 22 loses for MOS and 7-21 in the past 28. Keep him why?

Because 50% of our starting roster is below average. You have to address the talent, or lack thereof.

Geez, put the entire team on waivers and see who gets picked up. Westerman and ?

  9.

Lirim does kick a line-drive kind of kick more often than not.

Lirim has been kicking nice directional balls, this year, close to the end zone, when the O gives him the opportunity.

He does not kick the ball down the middle of the field, although he has done it on occasion.

Lirim, usually, does have good kickoffs.

Lirim can kick the snot out of the ball, when he is allowed.

Place kicking has been reliable, so therefore, the recent game leads me to believe Edmonton had access to our supply of balls and Eskimoed them.

He's got a hell of a leg... kicking and punting... no denying that... it's the accuracy that needs work...

LOL. Kind of like saying a boxer has a hell of a right cross. Just takes a punch like Betty White.

  10. How the kid actually remains on the squad is mind-blowing.

Look how the Steelers treated Scobie after just one rough game?

Immediately audition replacements. Take the best one. Dump the current guy and move on.

Then again, considering the GM's ability to sniff out "talent" I'm not surprised.

Maybe Walters will re-sign Chevon Walker to placekick?

  11. OShs biggest problem is his lame attempts to deflect blame from his players make him look lost and incompetent.

He's like the polar opposite of Burke. Which isn't good either.

I guarantee that there have been and will certainly will be more heated private discussions between OS, Miller and Walters, with a theme like "you expect me to extract talent from the team? Get me some talented players."

  12.

Grab Marc Trestman as HC and Dave **** as OC.

Now saddle them with the "talent" and "depth" Walters has provided -- Marve/Brohm, Bucknor at DB, our O-line, etc.

We'd have more wins, yes (purging MB will do that) but we wouldn't be the Stamps or Ticats.

You can't expect any HC to just shazam this squad of also-rans into a winning club -- especially once the starters go down .

No one was going to win with Brohm/Marve. Full stop. However, a guy like Nichols could probably be .500 with us if we had reasonable offensive coaching. I think our HCing is fine and that Hall has done a good job with the D. Our biggest flaws this year has been with the offensive play calling and system and with highly suspect ST play. I think our team has played well and been well prepared for all games this year with the exception of the Hamilton game. That indicates to me that MOS has not lost the room and is capable of motivating our team but needs  better ST and O coordinators.

Agree with you on OShea and the D, but you're ignoring the big problem which is the horrible personnel.

Our "pipeline" to talent is obviously clogged.

When Walters signed Chevon Walker he officially served his own notice.
