This is incredibly disappointing.  Tino Sunshine had so much mileage left on the tires, now this wonderful nickname will sit on the shelf untouched like discount bologna.

Hey, even discount bologna has more mileage left than Sunseri.

Doege will never have a nickname as good as Tino Sunshine.  It wraps it all up in a nice package, including Rider fans delusional hope that the next great one was sitting there on the bench, waiting to save the day, probably being held back by that washed up bum, Durant.

Guess the post count will go up now.  Don't dare multiquote.

Doege (pr: Dagg-ee) is not very conducive to a great nickname but it has potential for an amusing rhyme:

    Doege Doege

    Riderfans get your paper baggy

Dressler was on the Bombers neg list.

Yes he was, and Taman signed him to a try out contract. I don't know if that try out ever occurred. I can't find much information about it. It doesn't matter anyway. The reason I mentioned it was simply that Taman has made some good moves in his career..

You can't find out anything about it because it never happened. There is no such thing as a try out contract in the offseason. We scouted him as he was on our neg list and Taman decided against bringing him to camp and released him from our neg list. He was scooped up by the Riders and the rest is history. This particular story does not really flatter Taman all that much. Unless, of course, the point you are trying to make is how he misjudged the talent level of Weston Dressler and allowed him to get away.

Actually, the same argument could be made about Simon as well, who phoned the Bombers about a contract before going to BC and was told by Taman to seek employment elsewhere. Did Taman find these guys? Sure. Did he recognize their talent level and keep them? Nope.

The fact he originally scouted him is kind of trumped by the fact they became all stars on other teams imo.

  4. I like Durant....HATE his team, therefore, I cannot support him in his goal for recovery this year. In a perfect world his elbow will remain wonky for the remainder of his contract or until the Riders decide he is not worth the money and show him the door. He is then picked up by an Eastern team willing to gamble on him, has a renaissance of sorts, and he goes on to have a long and prosperous career. Rider fans won't like this but this could actually become the reality.

  5. JFG has performed admirably for us this year. He is not as good as Watson though. A lot of people are saying that Watson is no good but that simply isn't accurate. He hasn't, admittedly, been lighting it up but he certainly isn't bad. I find it somewhat amusing that we rail on the production of Watson but give Kohlert a free pass on his lack of production. It makes no sense. Both receivers are doing the job we ask of them. They are not primary threats in our offence but did anyone expect them to be?

  6. I'm sure that if a chicken sacrifice would speed up Durant's recovery, the Riders would consider it, even if it meant a drop in the average IQ in the province.

Oh dear.....you've just doomed every chicken between Moosomin and Estevan. BTW, if the average IQ drops any lower in the province there is a possibility that Saskatchewan residents would automatically qualify for disability credits on their taxes.

  7. Wow. We are so flush with NI talent at the skill positions that we can trade them away. I never realized we had such an immense stockpile of first rate Nationals waiting in the wings. Seriously though, trading Watson would be immensely stupid right now. If we go into FA and pry Andy Fantuz or Durie or someone away or draft a stud like Demski then we can play around with the notion. Until then it is crazy talk by a frustrated fan base.

  8. Well it seems that Durant returning is neither a slam dunk nor "the plan". In today's Leader Post, Chamblin stated directly that any talk of Durant coming back this year is premature. He is not even at the point where he can hold or grip a football yet, let alone throw according to Chamblin. He says that no one will know whether Durant can return or not until he actually demonstrates that he is ready. Chamblin said they have absolutely no clue what the timeline for that might be. They may not extend him on the 6 game IR after October 18th on the off chance he can return this year but it is no slam dunk he will. His comments sure didn't sound like a coach who thought his QB had a strong chance to return and they certainly fly directly in the face of the wishful thinking tweets we were reading from the Rider media yesterday. Fraser....I'd say you will almost certainly win your bet.

  9.

A veteran QB who will pretty much assure you a home playoff game. Not. With or without Durant the Riders were not even close to being assured a home playoff game. As it stands right now, all a vet QB would assure is that they are more competitive than the current Saskatchewan RedBlacks. There is a very small chance of a home playoff game no matter what they do. All a vet does is give them a punchers chance in the playoffs and maybe assures them 3rd in the West. The Riders were a mediocre team before the Durant injury that was finding ways to win close ball games. They were truly exposed as wannabes last week.

    Wannabes? 3-0. Lol

Here's a wager for you. If Bombers make the playoffs, I'll leave this site forever. If they miss the playoffs, you're toast. What say you?

My expectations are that the Bombers, in a rebuild year, will narrowly miss the playoffs. I don't really have a problem with that because they have taken huge strides towards becoming a serious contender this year. Since my comment that you object to (wannabes) really has zero to do with the Bombers let me propose a counter. When the Riders become a one and done in the playoffs, you will leave this and all other Bomber sites permanently. Should they advance to the division final I will leave all Rider sites permanently. What say you?

  11. Actually Migs you are not going off of what the Riders Dr.s are saying. You are going by what Taman and his media flunkies are saying and if you can't see the difference between the two then I'm speechless. Please provide a link to a quote from any Rider Dr. that supports your position. I can guarantee that you can't. Therefore, it's entirely possible that the information being provided by the Rider organization is a smoke screen to try and keep confidence up in the dressing room, among the fan base, and to lessen the appearance of desperation while in trade talks with other teams for a QB.

In fact, I too am willing to bet on it. I will bet your disappearance from this and all other Bomber forums for life against me changing my name to Giant Blowhard on this forum. Some parameters are that Durant must play most of the game in game 18 and start and finish your one and only playoff game. Are these terms agreeable?

  12. Almost forgot to mention this. Migs pay attention. In Fllutie's autobiography he discusses the elbow injury. He states that his competitive nature led him to return from that injury far too soon. He says he played the end of that season with only 65-70% arm strength and that he had to drastically reduce his off season training the next year because he had set back his recovery. He states that he feels fortunate that the decision for him to prematurely return did not cost him his career.

BTW, the book is called FLUTIE: Doug Flutie by Perry Lefko (of all people lol)...but it a good read for any CFL fan.

  13. Carson Palmer, with a lower degree of severity....close to a year. That's just one off the top of my head. For every Doug Flutie you trot out, I can trot out one that it ended their season. Why? Because not everyone is the same and no two injuries are exactly the same. You keep grasping onto that lame duck argument though....it's all you've  got.

  14. BTW, Migs, you keep referencing Doug Flutie as an example. First of all, you do realize that two people can have the same injury but different degrees of severity right? Doug Flutie had a slight tear of his tendon in his elbow. In fact, he played several games before the doctor's and Flutie made the decision to repair it before it became worse. Durant's was reported as a complete tear of the tendon...a much worse prognosis. Comparing the two is simply not applicable.

  15.  I know full well it could have been anyone in the organization or in Ottawa's or Edmonton's. That does not diminish the fire behind the smoke though. The Riders are actively looking for and willing to give up huge returns for a starting QB.

Now answer me this....do you think Taman is an idiot who would give up a 1st round pick and more or a star NI receiver for a stop gap QB that will start 4 games? I don't think he is. Like I said earlier, all the lip service and optimism coming from the Rider brass is in complete opposition  to what their actions have been over the past few days. I  get it that you have green goggles in regard to this issue but are they blinding you to common sense? They must be. I think we have found the driver of the turnip truck.
