A normal person wouldn't but we are talking about the Strev. Guy plays with injuries that would have most guys in traction...lol. Probably did show up today with a couple pieces of broken hockey sticks duct taped to brace each side of his knee trying to convince MOS that he is fine and dandy.

I would normally be big on letting Dobson progress and throwing Wallace into the fray and let him get the kinks out. However, in a Grey Cup hosting year we NEED a dominant OL. To me that means parting with Kola and or Dobson. We can't have an interior of Dobson/Kola/Wallace (if Neuf retires) and in my mind our best combination would be Wallace/New Centre/Neufeld. Gyetvai was an OG though wasn't he? -

Yea, Dobson was the very definition of a throwback OL. Had the beer belly and everything like those guys in the 70s Dominic Picard was not very big at all and he was a dominant centre for many years. Picard played his entire career around 270 I believe. He was 235 coming out of college and then went up to like 260 for several years, was optimal around 270ish, the bulked up to 300 for his last couple years in Toronto BUT was a pylon at that weight. -
Overall I love our defence. I don't like the deployment of the DL though. If we are in a situation where we gotta rotate guys like Schmek and Thomas through it should not be in a 30 front. I know it was completely unrealistic, but part of me really felt that Streveler would come to practice today kick of the walking boot or brace or whatever and be out there practicing up for the West final. I mean before you guys give me the old "yea right", answer me if this would have been a huge shock to you.

I agree 100. Ford is Streveler without the beef and the fur coat. -

I will qualify my earlier comment by saying that I hope we lose Dobson but hit FA hard for OL upgrades a centre and OG. It's a GC hosting year. We need a beast of an OL back. -

I just don't think he is a consistently CFL calibre starting QB in this league. Maybe, he gets better but I wouldn't throw anything but backup money at him right now. Just my opinion though. His path to being a starter is probably the strongest in Edmonton and Hamilton where he can spend another year apprenticing behind a couple of grey beards, however, Powell is better imo....and then there was one. -

Ford overrates himself methinks. Very disturbing that his team mates are recommending he test FA. That's not a good sign for the Elks. -

If someone wants Dobson they can have him imo. As much as Gray got a rough ride on here he was a much better OL in pass pro then Dobson. My biggest fear is that we get to the GC and Toronto is there with a healthy Ceresna. Dobson got absolutely manhandled by him almost every snap and I watched that game like 5x and it wasn't on Kola at all in most instances. Kola was getting matadored by his own guy much of the game. -

Great for you guys getting 18k. I mean it's half the amount any other playoff game will have but still a big improvement. -

The problem I have with guys going off single analytics is that it usually replaces the old eyeball test and game situational importance. When used together you can get a more rounded view of performance but stats almost always require context and almost always lack context. Measuring a persons defensive prowess solely by tackle numbers or sacks is a fools game when you don't account for the variables such as team defence overall etc. Milligan, for instance, is a combination of INTs and ST tackles. Both are fairly meaningless stats in iso. Majority of his INTs resulted from very poor throws by the opposing QB as opposed to him actually making the play, and very few came in contested parts of a game. Glory stats gifted from desperate QBs whereas a guy like Ford made tough interceptions through exceptional reads and athleticism. End of the day all the media looked at were totals and not context and a guy gets hyped up even though, imo, Ford was the superior player. Overall team defence stats back up my viewpoint. Bombers best in the league vs pass, Sask near the bottom. Ford and our entire secondary were making every play, the RIders and their MOP Milligan, and allstar Sayles made some plays and were torched just as often. Individual stats don't tell that story. -

I am completely gob smacked at the ineptitude of the CFL media this year. It's like they didn't watch a game this year because the weather was too nice and then threw darts at a dart board. I am not trying to belittle Anderson in any way but his stats tell the story of a defence not getting off the field more than anything. Wilson came into a depleted and struggling offence and outperformed every veteran receiver around him through a tough stretch until we got some guys back and then continued to produce a 1000 yard season. I like Anderson, but you look at the advanced stats of his defence and it shines a light on why he had the tackle totals he did and that they were hyper inflated by team ineptitude. Teams were literally running up the gut against Edmonton to kill clock for the first half of the season. His tackle totals dramatically tail off in the second half when Edmonton started to get into some games. I have always been a big skeptic of tackle totals as a stat in isolation though. Sometimes your tackle totals can reveal a team weakness more than anything. -

Agree. I really don't mind a team sunsetting a guy like that though as long as it is done right. That one just blows me away. How does anyone pick Logan Ferland for anything other than marking a construction zone on a foggy day. He is the guy you drive around and almost hit every day on route 90 during construction season. He dresses up all in orange and is cone shaped. -

I agree on Dobson. He was god awful for the first few games and has improved but then had absolutely terrible games here and there as recently as the Toronto game. I was actually thinking he was a guy who may lose his starting position next year via Wallace, FA or draft. -

I don't think so. BO will win it this year imo. -
Something has to give after a season like they had. Sometimes, good coaches end up wearing the goat horns for a bad team. I can agree with that, however, as a coordinator you gotta play the roster you are given to their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses as well. I guess that would be my knock on Younger. However, overall I really like his defence. Ding ding ding....exactly why he was canned. Dicky managed to convince someone over his head that it wasn't a talent problem and he got to keep his job. That required the Monson meat shield.
-
Won't need to paper it. Less than 2k tickets it will sell out on walk up. I agree with that, It would be nice to see a little more disguising of our defensive alignment. Hall was a master at it.

We were far from keeping Zac clean against Toronto. Jamie Nye also suggested the Riders would win the Grey Cup the last two years prior to this one so I would take his opinion with a grain of salt. Nye is a Rider fan first, journalist second. That is why.

I am absolutely gobsmacked by Ferland being the nominee for outstanding lineman, and Wilson not coming out of the West for ROY. Blown away by these choices. I don't understand. Only thing I can fathom is that Ferland was a peace offering to the melon heads for Milligan not receiving MOP nomination. -
It's certainly not the strongest point of his game for sure, but that is mainly because we don't really use it a whole lot in our offence. My comment on BO's receiving skills aren't about screens or in the flats. It's about his ability to get out and beat a DB and to have the over the shoulder deep route receiving skills. Those are not the types of things BO did a whole lot of in college or since. It takes time. People are waiting until the weekend just to get the most accurate weather report I would think. Those waiting solely on the weather report will likely sell out the game before the WSF and not leave availability to chance should the gappers win.
-
Catching deep routes is a different kind of catching skill set. One we have not seen from Brady yet. Not saying he can't do it, just assuming it's why we never run him out on intermediate and deep routes because that was something we did routinely with Harris.
-
Hard to do in cold weather games. I'll just be happy if we win our next two, even if Zach is underwhelming. If he had the hands I think they would have done it long ago. They had Harris on wheel routes all the time because he had great hands. I don't think BO is quite there yet, but is working on that aspect of his game.
