Vince McMahon considers move to bring back the XFL
GCn20 replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I was actually hopeful that the XFL would find it's niche and be a developmental type league for the CFL and NFL. Unfortunately, every spring incarnation is just terrible football and very hard to watch. In America, I don't think you can half ass it when it comes to pro sports. You either start up as a farm league for the big show or you get cratered. Unlike the CFL, the 4 down game requires too much precision and doesn't allow for athleticism. There are a ton of fantastic athletes that just need some time to develop their pro game attention to detail but are NFL calibre athletes and that is how the CFL has thrived in it's recruitment. However, with the smaller field and different playing style and rules of 4 down football those same players just do not have the opportunity to shine and it just looks sloppy instead. -
I'm against the weekending at this point too. However, if someone sets up residence for half the year at a lake house they paid half a million dollars for and is willing to self isolate for two weeks prior too, and after arriving, brings enough supplies to last that long, and is not in a cottage area that increases local populations by thousands I don't see the problem. For the majority..yes stay home...but there are situations that exist where people need to go and should not be shamed for doing so. I lease a condo from a friend for 7 mos of the year in Winnipeg while he snowbirds. Come May I'm homeless if I can't return home to Paint Lake. If he had come home instead of staying in Arizona I would have been at Paint Lake a month ago and there is very little anyone could say to convince me otherwise, as I am not a fan of homeless shelters.

I totally agree with you and Noeller on this. The vast majority of cottage country is weekend warriors and that is not necessary. However, like anything else there are resident "cottagers" like myself who live full time in their lake houses and may, like myself, run businesses in these communities. In these situations their livelihood is also at stake. This isn't frivolent travel. However, if I said I'm heading up to my lake house for the weekend to go ice fishing and then returning Monday I could certainly see why people would be upset by that. Also, places like LOTW, Whiteshell, Grand Beach etc. are talking about thousands of weekend warriors coming in that are not regular residents. That is not the way every place should be judged.

My lease fees, you don't pay land taxes in provincial parks and you don't own the land, is only 1700 bucks a year. My mortgage...that's a different ball of wax. Unlike most people my "cottage" is my primary residence though, and I just keep a condo in Winnipeg for the winter because the Thompson winters are just too damn tough on my arthritis.

There are responsible ways to do this. I have been self isolating for almost a month now because I can. I will be self isolating for two weeks prior to leaving, and for two weeks once I arrive there. Don't know why I'm even discussing this because I'm not going until the middle of May anyway but should the same restrictions be in place I will be making no extra trips or stops anywhere or along the way. A well thought out plan and diligence can limit the exposure to no one. I pay for my gas at the pumps. I pack my own food and bring it because Thompson is way too expensive to shop. I have a freezer full of food already there so I just need some pantry items and produce, the same as I would at home in Winnipeg. Beer? Wine? I make my own.

No grief. Just a bunch of people not understanding what the community of Paint Lake is, or how different a dynamic there is between it and what they are used to seeing in Southern Manitoba. They hear the word lake and think cottage, when nothing could be further from the truth. As you know, there are no weekend warriors at Paint Lake, there are residents of Thompson who live in the park close by. I'm not sure people understand that a Paint Lake residence is about 300k to start and requires a 20% down payment to finance. People are not buying or using these for weekend getaways. Nope...not much Daniel Boone in me. I like to fish and sit on my dock with a cooler of beer, and a nice camp fire after dark. In the winter I snowmobile and do the occasional ice fishing if it's warm...lol. I just prefer to live at the lake because of the lower taxes, and to get away from the social problems of Thompson.

Thompson is a city of 15000 people but is set up as the service hub for the North and directly services about 60k surrounding population. If anything is going to overwhelm our hospital, or supply chains, it's going to be the 60-70k in neighboring communities (mostly first nations) that receive primary hospital services and shopping in Thompson...it won't be the population of 200 people in the community of Paint Lake. Further to that, as explained earlier, Paint Lake is considered a community within the BRHA. These are not summer cottages. These are homes and the overwhelming majority of people live there full time and are included in any community planning by the regional health authorities. This is not Whiteshell or LOTW where people swing in for the weekend by the thousands. The only community that utilizes Paint Lake is Thompson. The people who are at the lake at any given time, whether camping or utilizing the park are Thompsonites. The people who have homes at the lake are Thompsonites.

Nope not Kississing. There are several excellent fishing lakes to the south. Are you talking towards Snow Lake?

The Rider fired there entire training staff after Jones first year. I am sure they might be interested in the outcome of this lawsuit as there was a lot of chatter that it was because they wouldn't clear a player to play when Jones wanted him in the lineup and they were then fired the following offseason. Not exactly the same thing, but similar..

I love it. Visited it twenty some years ago on a fishing trip with friends and jumped on a business opportunity in Thompson when it presented itself and moved from Winnipeg and bought a home on Paint Lake. It was a struggle to balance for a few years and eventually I just sold my businesses in Winnipeg but kept the business in Thompson. It s where I met my wife and where my kids went to school. I like to refer to myself as semi-retired because my business is seasonal but I am busy in the summer and able to make a decent living off a seasonal business while enjoying the beautiful Northern Manitoba summer days. Winter sucks though so I still maintain a dwelling in Winnipeg during the offseason.

I am listed as a resident of Thompson Manitoba and my Paint Lake residence is considered my primary residence. The BRHA already includes me and my family in their population planning and its even where my family doctor is. Before you accuse someone of loophole chasing make sure you know all the facts. My Winnipeg residence is just a winter get away from my home in Thompson. I spend all spring/summer/fall in Thompson except to drive out for Bomber games and about half the winter as well going back and forth except for the past 2 months I was in Winnipeg because I was minimizing travel due to Covid. Also, I do plan on leaving 2 weeks before business start up and self isolating when I get there. Further to this, Paint Lake home owners constitute a small population and are counted as full time residents by the BRHA. There is no seasonal cottage industry in Paint Lake/Thompson because of geography.
-
That's my summer home not a cottage. I have lived there 4 months of the year for the past 20 years and have seasonal business interests nearby that require my attendance and management. Once I am there, I will be staying there and not going back and forth to Winnipeg unless the CFL starts up again with fan attendance. This is not a loophole. I am not a weekend warrior at a cottage.....but thanks for judging.

You betcha...If I have to isolate I can't think of a better spot than sitting at the end of my dock. The only way I don't go is if they shut down highways. Even then I may go by seadoo...lol.
-
Nah they'll accuse Booch of being a troll and ban him.
-
But they won't...they'll come up with some convoluted theory about them finishing first in the west last year so they should be awarded the Grey Cup by forfeit while totally ignoring that Winnipeg won the Cup and Hamilton finished with a better record.

In CDs defence he was asked directly about Carter.

I heard a rumor that a group of Riderfans tried to purposely catch the Coronavirus to expedite the process of ending the pandemic. Sadly, they were unable to do so after the virus hit the crossbar.

Read my comments again, I didn't at any point say I hate him I just said he shouldn't be cheered for acting like clown. Man you are really trying hard to press this. Why do you care how I feel about Joe Kapp?
-
He played for the BC Lions and instigated a fight with Mosca. If you want to hail him for that give her. I think it was a black eye to his character. Both guys acted like clowns. If you want to condone 70 somethings fist fighting go for it...I think it's sad.
-
All I said is that there are no heroes in this story. Both guys acted incredibly poorly.
-
Joe Kapp is not exactly someone anyone should cheer for...even against Mosca.

He was yapping how the Bombers have locker room issues and culture problems and that's why they were losing when Nichols went down. Also suggested that the Bombers had a lack of talent on defence and that he was available if they wanted him. Just basically throwing shade on his former team mates and coaches. To a Bomber fan it was clearly sour grapes but he chose to go to Ridernation to spew his propaganda.
-
Should have lost all his Winnipeg sponsorships after his bone headed comments on Rod Pedersen show this summer. Completely classless display that day.
-
There are certainly some parks and playgrounds that should be closed. However, the vast majority are just fine. Go out kick a soccer ball or play catch, go fishing, just don't do it on the beaten path.
-
I completely agree. The politicians need to weigh the risk of infection against the mental health of a nation. Yes places where people tend to congregate in close quarters need to be closed but there is a great deal of outdoor activity that should be considered safe and encouraged. People need this for their well being. This summer I plan on camping and fishing and I'll be choked if government does not allow these activities. Hell....I'll just do them anyway.
