  1. To an extent we *do* have a right to know. It's our money and our team. But the team cant be hamstrung by answering to a fanbase that is generally uninformed and incapable of grasping high level corporate or political decisions. I would hope everyone from the NDP to Miller would be smart enough to know that ANYTHING remotely negative in regards to the Stadium is going to be a bad news story. They should have held a presser, acknowleged the issues and reminded the media and fans that even if another $10 million in repairs/upgrades, this Stadium is a deal. instead, it gets spun like we paid too much for a third rate building, which isnt true.
  2. You forgot the recent Dimitri Soudas scandal and firing, the outrageous amount spent on the G8 and G20 conferences including all of the money funneled to areas of Tony Clements' riding that had nothing to do with the conferences, the Helena Guergis scandal, proroguing parliament twice, etc. Proroguing parliament was 100% justifed. It's a legitimate tool and he used it to prevent the unelected left from essentially comitting a coup of the federal government. Look, the people can make their voices heard by voting. And if the lefties dont like Harper, they have a choice - win an election. They had the option of trying to steal government and Harper had the option of preventing it. He was right. And the people went on to back him be re-electing him so its a moot point.
  3. Harper is so scary. He will turn this country into a dictatorship. There will be soldiers in the streets. WITH GUNS! I love the anti-Harper rhetoric. How long has he been PM? When is he going to unleash this terrible agenda? Stephen Harper has been the best thing to happen to federal politics in decades. Its always liberals that think they best represent Canadians even the ones that dont vote liberal but they are the first to bury people who disagree with them. And I say that as a former liberal. I mean sure, I guess if you're rich enough to handle liberal tax and spend or if you're involved in some lobbyist group or if you just hate the rest of the world, then the Liberals are for you. But Ill tell you right now, given a choice who do you want representing Canada on the world stage? Harper or the boy blunder Trudeau? As for Manitoba, if the PC's dont win it means one of two things: The current PC leadership are inept to stunning degrees or Manitobans are the stupidist people of all time. To the person who said we have long memories about a PC government, you're right. And Id love to have Filmon back. How dare he balance the budget while receiving WAAAAY lower federal transfer payments. Sorry, but I dont like HIGHER taxes, LARGER debt, BROKEN promises, ANTI-business and the utter embarrassment that this NDP government currently is. I liked their support for their Jets and Bombers though. So there's that. The PC's will be just as supoportive of both (both because it's good PR and because it's smart investment).
  4. I dont recall if Bret said he was on coke or if he meant drugs as in painkillers etc. The life of some of these guys, especially in that era and in bret's position was that you needed painkillers to keep going, you needed downers to get sleep and you needed uppers to get up. Its a tough life. WWE has done a lot to improve things but its a lifestyle. We actually had Bret booked to work SHAW Park in July 2002 when he had his stroke. Really screwed us up and it was hard getting legit info as Bret's people kept his condition very secretive. I had the pleasure of working with Eddie Guerrero and Hawk before they died.
  5. Sort of related to the Pavs debate, but since that thread suddenly got de-railed into Bombers and politics, here is the question: Is Hutch the real deal or a flash in the pan with a team playing better in front of him? I believe he's an RFA this summer. If the Jets feel he needs to play, do they bring him to camp next year as the defacto back-up? Do they resign him as the starter in St John's? Does it give them some freedom to move Pavs (going with a young unproven guy is scary though).
  6. Nate, you know the difference between football and hockey right?
  7. If I was Miller I'd be in front of this by inviting "friendly" media in for a look (no pics). I'd admit there is a problem. its not like it's Miller's fault. But the Bombers have to be careful with the blame since they *need* a good relationship with the NDP, at least for another few months. Edwards is off-base in my opinion. If this was the first stadium ever built, then fine. But to suggest no one knows where the water will go is ludicrous. Once Asper dropped out, the province should have brought in someone to fully access the situation, including design. If it cost $10 million more, so be it. But they all had this crazy idea theyd build the stadium in a few months. Even adding on another $10m, this is a great stadium. Just fix it. if Im the PC's, I hang this around the NDP's neck...and then when the next eelction is over, the PC's should step up with re-financing or whatever and end any more talk about the Stadium, Bombers or loan issues. Just solve it for good.
  8. Bret was perfectly fine until his stroke. Not saying he wasnt into drugs like most guys from that era of the business. But drugs arent contributing to his current state...which is damn fine for a guy who suffered multiple concussions and multiple strokes. He return to WWE a couple years ago might not have been as good as people hoped but actually he was WAY better at an untelevised MSG show where he actually hit most of his signature spots. Hindsight is 20/20 but Warrior did look rough on Monday. Had he already been suffering the onset of a heart attack, its even more sad when you consider how many trainers, doctors etc are around WWE. Im glad he and WWE mended fences though. He just signed a multi-year contract with WWE and by all accounts was VERY happy over the weekend and mended fences with guys (Jake, Hogan, Patterson etc).
  9. Uhhhhh Bret Hart crazy coke head? I can't say he doesn't do coke but anytime myself or people I know have been around him there has been zero drugs. He had a stroke. Warrior is an interesting case. He didn't seem to consider steroids to be bad. He was very negative on guys who were big drinkers and drug addicts. There's also a video of him from two years ago being critical of his doctor for telling him to slow down after a muscle tear. Eddie Guerrero is the perfect example of sometimes the damage is done. After cleaning up his life he dropped dead. Years of steroid abuse had enlarged his heart. Warrior was in magnificent shape but look at pics of him....hard to imagine a 54 year old man being ripped like that.
  10. Its not a problem to play him 60 games if you dont have a better option.
  11. I cant see Jets buying out Pavs. Firstly, it would be quite the change of opinion after signing him to that contract. Secondly, you dont let go of the branch unless you've got a firm hold on another. I think they'd consider a trade but I also think they strongly believe Pavs' plays up and down to the quality of play in front of him.
  12. Wrestling fans will realise the absolutely ridiculous timing of this death. Warrior and WWE were at odds for 18 years, suing each other several times. They made peace and Warrior was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame just this past Saturday, appeared at Wrestlemania on Sunday and his final TV appearance two days ago giving a classic "Warrior" promo live on Monday Night RAW. Tuesday evening, he collapsed and died. Politics aside, Warrior was a childhood hero of mine (and many others). It was gratifying to see him rightfully honoured by WWE. He was escorted onto stage by his young daughters and told them of everything he has done in life, his greatest thing was being their father. RIP Warrior.
  13. I hate Kessler, but he is the best player in that trade no questions asked. If Kane is as good as you say he is, why are you so keen to trade him? You call him a franchise player you can build around for the next 15 years... so why the rush to ship him out? For at least the third time in this thread alone, you don't only trade guys because they suck. I didn't say I was keen to trade him. I said I could see why the jets would. And I've repeatedly provided reasons as to why.
  14. If only they hadn't built it in the first place, this would never have happened.
  15. Are you kidding? Kesler, at this point, is the much better player and team component. Kessler might be the more important piece of a larger team puzzle. Kane is the talented player. Kane gives the Canucks a franchise player to build around for 15 years. Kessler doesnt (and they tried to trade him already). Age, contract, talent make Kane the more valuable commodity. Even if things were equal, you dont trade a 22 year old with a good four year contract for a 29 year old with half as much time left.
  16. That presumes the Jets are well out of the playoffs by deadline next season. In which case, thats very bad news for the Jets.
  17. Kane is the biggest piece of that trade. everyone loves Kessler but Kane is the bigger talent.
  18. Hmmmm Im not as familar with the Canucks' players and situation as I should be. How about a blockbuster: To Vancouver: Kane Pavs Burmi Postma/Redmond To Winnipeg: Kessler Kassian Tanev Lack
  19. I wonder if Vancouver and Winnipeg might swing a blockbuster involving Kane and Lack (amongst others ofcourse).
  20. I would have have a good team for ten years then a great team for one year. And Chipman is the same. It can not be over-stated how bad this team was when True North bought it. Yes they had good core players but very little by way of prospects. Chevy has drastically improved the prospect depth and will continue to do so. He's used the waiver wire and strategic trades to improve the depth of the team. Its not where it needs to be yet but its getting there. Be patient. Bob mackenzie discussed this yesterday and he said he thinks Kane and the Jets will sit down this summer and really decide where the relationship is going. If Kane isnt committed to Winnipeg 100%, then he will be moved. And rightfully so. Sure, no one wants to see Kane score 50 goals for someone else. But do we want Kane to score 30 goals for us and then bolt in four years? Some talent are just square pegs on round hole teams. As talented as Kane is, he might not be the right fit on this team. People say Noel aliented Burmi and Kane but Maurice seems to be "handling" Kane a lot more than Noel did. Kane would likely be a great fit in Vancouver who want to revert to a more offensive style. Might there be a great deal to be made between old friends the Jets and Canucks?
  21. Average is different. But Kane's actual cash payout next season is six million.
  22. Then why are you trading him? All the reasons to trade the guy are reasons his value will be lowered. Like I said, best you'd do is one problem player for another. Many reasons to trade a guy. It doesn't have to be because he sucks. There are examples of talents being traded.
  23. Kane should be bring back pretty much maximum return for a young 30 goal scorer with a locked-in contract and tons of upside. Sure, trading Crosby would get you more. But if Kane played in TO or New York and his name came up, it would be round the clock top news on TSN. He's *that* good
  24. I didnt get the sense the Hooters girls were flirting with me. i found it much better in that regard than the first time I had been. Obby's partner isnt someone that would fill me with confidence due to past experiences...
  25. not when there's the perception that he's a problem for Winnipeg. Right now he's got more value to Winnipeg than he does to anyone else because other teams see a player being healthy scratch and it throws up a red flag. The only thing you're going to get for the guy now is a player with some red flags of their own. Better to just let Kane work through whatever went on this year and see if he can't get back to what he was before. I disagree. We're hyper-sensitive to these things here. There will always be teams willing to take on talent. Unless there is something really nasty going on behind the scenes (which other teams would know about), I dont think we'd have a problem trading him for significant value. Maurice was asked what Kane has to do to play and he replied "show up". Now did he mean "Kane is playing so as long as he arrives, he's in" or did he mean show up in the sense that he has to play harder, have some passion etc? There have long been rumours about Kane not getting along with all his team mates but then you also see him out socially with guys like Bogo. i really dont know what to make of it. But if Chevy deems Kane should be traded, I trust him.
