  1. A lot of people thought Hebert was "over the hill" and "done" when he came back from the NFL. I think his has been just as much of an impact player (maybe more so) than when he left. I would love to have Banks and his intensity on this Defense. That fire has been missing quite some time. Hopefully his tenacity would become contagious. Let's face it the Bombers right now are not in a position of strength. It's going to take a couple of years to rebuild their reputation and become a desirable organization to play for again. The only way that is going to happen is by winning consistently. If the club needs to bring other teams so called "scraps" then so be it. Hopefully IF the club can even sign some of these types of guys, they come with a chip on their shoulder a something to prove to the rest of the league. We just need a year or two of winning before the club can start attracting some key FA that can make an impact. It is crucial for things to turn around now and have their success peak for the 2016 season when the city hosts the Grey Cup. In the meantime Walters/Danny Mac and company need to bust their butts looking at guys that can be brought in to hopefully be the teams future success.

True, but in those peoples defence, Hebert would have looked his age any any other defence but Montreals.

I don't seem to recall a year where he wasn't at least .500

You have to look all the way back to 2012.

    Riders were 5-11-1 in 2000

Riders were 11-7 in 2003 (Burris came back at Labour day or around that time)

    Riders were 9-9 in 2004

    Stamps were 11-7 in 2005

    Stamps were 10-8 in 2006

    Stamps were 7-10-1 in 2007

Stamps were 13-5 in 2008 Grey Cup year

    Stamps were 10-7-1 in 2009

    Stamps were 13-5 in 2010

    Stamps were 11-7 in 2011

Tiger Cats were 6-12 in 2012

Tiger Cats were 10-8 in 2013

  3. You know what, Mike? You're always right & I'm always wrong when it comes to football so from now on I'll just go with whatever you say. I don't know **** when it comes to you,  man, How could I have thought what I thought? You're the Alpha Male around here. Sorry, I upset you. You want me to clear all my messages  with you first before I post them?

And now the tension between the 2 of you has been released.

well if anything this just shows that Collaros is way smarter than Reilly, who wouldn't even look at another team other than the Eskimos.

Nothing wrong with Reilly doing that.

Would you be calling Reilly stupid if we were the only team he looked at? Doubtful.

It's difficult to say that Reilly wouldn't of gotten more money had he waited until Free Agency.

You just can't say that signing beforehand was a good business decision.

    Who knows.

Perhaps if Reilly made it to FA, MAck offers some money that wasn't close to what Edmonton would have offered, because of that Edmonton lowers their offer and Reilly loses out compared to what he would have made before FA happened.

9 days to announce the coaching staff? Didn't realize there was some perceived deadline?

I believe O'Shea is on record saying he would have the coaching staff assembled and announced by Jan31.

I don't recall O'Shea saying that, but I remember Rod Peterson stating that on his blog.

I hate to be that guy, but dude should have retired 4 years ago.  His last few years put a damper on a sure hall of fame career.

What are you even talking about? From 2010 thru 2012 the guy won a Grey Cup, while putting up typical AC numbers: 5000 yds a season and a 3:1 TD/int ratio. He had a sweet thing going with Trestman and wasn't showing any signs of slowing down ... not until last year.

Ideally he would have quit after 2012 and spared himself that awful concussion but I can't blame a guy for hanging onto the only job he's ever held in his adult life.

stats aside, you could clearly see he was on the downside even in 2010.  That was their Grey cup year, which ideally would have been the perfect time to retire.

  7. The thing about Jones is true. Calgary was the only city that offered him an opportunity to obtain work in his field as part of a co-op program to tide him over until medical school.

And no, I'm not getting a link because I don't feel like playing internet detective today.

Burke wasn't that kind of person either but he failed because he wound up really doing nothing.

I think I could have coached the Bombers this year just like Tim Burke, because I can point the finger at everyone else and shrug a lot as good as anybody I've ever seen.

Dickenson rumoured to be going to Edmonton to be the STC there. I don't think the season ended fast enough for Craig here & he wanted out. Who could blame him?

You're making a few assumptions there.

Don't think so, Jacquie. He can work on any team in the CFL. Last season was a disaster & he was an unlucky participant. I don't think he had any idea that things would unravel here the way they did. Have you heard any rumours he wanted to come back? No one has said anything that he wants to be on O'Shea's staff. Now, maybe he will. But all the stories I've heard is he's going to Edmonton.

It's rumoured that he's on his way to Edmonton but that rumour started after it was announced the Bombers weren't retaining any of their staff.

No Etch and definitely no Marshall... god if we have Marshall we might as well forfeit every game against Ricky Ray since it's a given that he'll throw 40 straight complete passes and keep the offense on the field 75% of the game.

As said before... why settle for guys who have been around the league and have never excelled above mediocrity.    I'd rather give it to someone with at least a chance to rise to the top.

It should be noted that the Bombers w/ Greg Marshall were 3-2-1 in 3 seasons against Ricky Ray and the Eskimos.

But wasn't it a Greg Marshall defense that Jason Maas had set the record for straight completions?  (I could be incorrect but was just wondering

That was 2004.   I believe Daley was the coach and Mike Gorton took over as DC.

meh. we let him get away, plain and simple.. teams need to develop kickers and we chose to let him walk.. bad decision.

I attended a lot of that training camp and Paredes was just brutal. Big leg but he was missing everything. Can't blame the Bombers for releasing him. At the time I couldn't understand how he even got invited. Hindsight is 20/20 but the coaches made the right call given the information they had at the time. He rebounded and is doing well...good for him. However, it is ignorant to say that it was a bad decision to keep Palardy over a guy who was shanking everything....especially when you were not around to see what they based their decision on.

It is a well known fact that Paredes wasn't the same kicker when he was in Bomber camp as he is now. You can't use hindsight to try and claim a mistake when in fact the guy they kept was quite an accurate kicker himself and at the time Paredes was not. He put in the effort to improve himself after getting cut and good on him for that but let's not pretend he was the same guy when the Bombers cut him.

Kind of reminds me of Dorsey back in '07.  Couldn't beat out AJ III and went to Toronto and had a great year

  13. I think I would have taken a flyer on some free agents... Mitchell just seems like any import receiver you can pick up for nothing - same goes for miles actually, plus lee is a 28 year old backup import OT who didn't exactly dominate in his one appearance and quite possibly would have been cut or back on PR... Plus moton hopkins? Weird.

Pretty much the first round (with the exception of QB's were picked based on potential.  Much easier at this point then to scout. The second round will be key (obviously).

I would take the chance on Khari.

While Khari as HC was giving me nightmares, I could really see him flourishing in this role. Like to see him rise to glory with our team.

All that said, its a young CEO, GM, HC, and OC. Lets get some grey hair doing DC already!

Would you be okay with white hair?

    how bout with no hair?

  15. Any chance the announcement has anything to do with the city being awarded the Grey Cup? Normally a coaching hire announcement is just made in the Bombers media room at the stadium. Something seems strange about having a big press conference at the Fairmont unless it was big news involving the city...

Judging by the media people, it was done for convenience as the majority of them were at the MTS Centre for roar of the rings.

  16.

But wasn't McManus a scout for two or three years before Tillman got there?  If he did find Gable and Ellingson, I can't really think of who else really emerged as a 'find' this year...

They've found some good players, but the thing about Hamilton is that they haven't been afraid to utilize the free agent market so they don't fill as many holes through pure scouting.  Some good players they've brought in (aside from Gable, Ellingson) include Brandon Boudreaux, Torrey Davis, Rico Murray, Brandon Banks, Delvin Breaux, Eric Norwood, Onrea Jones and Luke Tasker.  I'm not going to pretend to know who was responsible for getting those guys up here, but those are just a few names who came up here in the last year or two and made an impact.

Come on! That makes this forum more fun!
