Too early to anoint Cato as the heir to Calvillo, but apparently Cato had a grand total of one week to learn the playbook and his teammates, so that tells me that O'Shea's excuse for Brohm's sub-par performance Thursday that Brohm didn't have enough reps is verging on an insult to the intelligence of fans.

As I've made clear I'm no fan of Brohm, but on the other hand, it could also be a credit to the coaching in Montreal for Cato's success by good game-planning, while Brohm's poor performance was based in the bad play-calling of our OC.  Brohm was bad, but the plays he was forced to run were just awful too.

Brohm missed several wide open passes where he had time and space to deliver the ball properly...

  2. Just as a counter-point to the "obviously TKO'd Willy"  - from personal experience with a semi-serious head to arm collision playing Ultimate (my head, other dudes arm... totally my fault for loss of body control)

Collision happened, loud enough smack that people across the field heard it - broke both bones in the guy I hit's forearm.

Immediately after the collision I flopped back onto the ground and was pretty motionless while I was kind of internally checking myself to see if I had hurt anything (also trying to get my contact lense back onto my eyeball by blinking).

Everybody on my team thought I had been knocked out cold until they got closer (I.E. some bombers on the field could easily think he had been knocked out while he was really just staying still because his neck felt hurt and he wanted the med staff there to check it out)

  3. Was brohm REALLY the biggest problem? I mean maybe watched a different game but our D was shredded from start to finish. 56 points against. Ya 2 pick 6 really but the D is the concern. What would Marve have done? Probably nothing. The D sucks tho

    D was a problem... but 2 pick 6 + a returned punt = 21 points

35 points against is still bad... but then didn't we also have a turnover deep in our own zone that also lead to a TD (28 points given up when TiCats actually had to move the ball.... not great, not so bad that we should be tearing our hair out)

I suspect Westerman will be on there in lieu of Cappiciotti in due time, but not yet.

I'd probably give the nod to Durie over Kohlert at this point in time.

Cory Greenwood may get on there ahead of Hurl as well, but again - not yet.

I actually had Greenwood on there ahead of Hurl but I thought people would freak out because he hasn't actually played in the CFL much yet.  But I expect him to be a top Canadian LB this year for sure.

I considered Durie but he's such a bandaid.

But he is so unreal good when healthy... although I guess that's why we were all OK with losing Watson

  5. I don't need to read it again, without properly expressing tone it will still have 2 possible interpretations - you are the one who wrote a post that can be read with 2 interpretations.  And chose not to clarify whether you were sarcastically dissing him or pointing out that his is better at his job than most people around here want to give him credit for, when given the opportunity.

Taman had Khari Jones and the best version (2007) of Kevin Glenn when he was here.  There is more that goes into a cup winning football team than having a great QB.

and while Taman had Khari Jones and Glenn-2007 we "should" have won two Grey Cups

The first we lost on Westwood's foot and the team not playing up to their potential

The second our all-star QB got injured in the game before the cup and we still came damn close to winning with a complete rookie whose playing career never went anywhere.

Taman's BB teams were always boom and bust... but he did Boom on occasion.

  6.

Volny is not a starting RB by any stretch of the imagination.  He'll probably be replaced in the off season.

Stoudemire is on the 6 game IR.

People have been saying that for a few years now. I think he makes the team again for the simple reason that he's shown himself able to be an in game fill in at RB if needed and obviously does enough on special teams to be kept around. In other words, he's a good depth NI and those guys keep their jobs very often.

You absolutely cannot ignore his value on special teams

Using coke in crack form is about as hardcore as it gets, followed by mainlining. And yup, very expensive- the late Robin Williams had his struggle with the stuff and said, "Cocaine is nature's way of telling you that you have too much money." Cocaine users get to go to Hell before they die. Its that corrosive to life.

Oh ease up surgeon general.. Its a horrible drug but its no meth, heroin, krocodile, oxy or even mdma.. The fact he is injecting it tho tells me he has an addictive personality and probably stuggles mightily with addictive substances.. Hopefully he gets the help he deserves..

Wouldn't lump in MDMA with that.

Pure, pharmaceutical MDMA -- the stuff developed by Bayer in the '20's, not the garbage street drug or Molly -- is being considered as a (highly controlled) psychotherapy drug for its ability to break down psychological treatment barriers. Fascinating stuff.

If the Feds in the US would get out of the way there is really convincing research that MDMA could make chronic PTSD a thing of the past.

Then again... a lot of illegal drugs have other potential uses that gets blocked by their illegality - low dose LSD (daily dose of a 1/10 of a regular hit) is apparently (their is a big subculture experimenting with medical uses) a much better solution to ADD/ADHD.  It resolves the attention issues without turning the kid into a zombie like ritalin.

  8. Let's be honest with ourselves here, we needed Moore on this team. If we went into the year with just Denmark as a top option we'd be in trouble. I like Denmark, but he's not a #1 guy, Moore adds balance to that. Just a shame he has missed some games here.

Denmark has played better with Moore on the field.

I THINK that Denmark has difficulty getting open when guys have extra help

  9. We don't know what Miller does behind the scenes. He may be real effective but does so in anonymity because we don't see him everyday. I think the less we see of him the better the team is doing. I would like that golf course made into a parking lot but the U of M has other plans. You'd think they'd be willing to forego some of that land to be used for parking but these are academics in ivory towers we're talking about here... They have other plans.

If there is anything Winnipeg has enough of it is parking.

It seems evident to me that something like the smart park with numerous research heavy businesses setting up shop and working with the university (both raising the profile of the university and offering more opportunities for its students/graduates - not to mention revenue) is a hell of a lot better than having a bunch of asphalt.

looking to watch tomorrow's game at a bar tomorrow. Leaning towards Smitties since they aready have a tuesday wing special or The Pony Corral.

Unless anyone can recommend a place with a good special for Gamedays?

Seriously?  Smitties or Pony Corral?  You're really looking for quality food aren't you?  Why don't you just go to Costco and pick up their plate of wings and eat them at your place.  They'd probably taste a whole lot better then the crap they serve at either of those 2 restaurants (and I use the term "restaurant" lightly when I speak of either of those places).

where do you like wings from?

    Round Table.... ******* amazing

Romby could have had 2 touchdowns against BC with better throws from Willy

    ????

Romby just wasn't getting open at all. It was painful.

Nah you're way off.  Romby was wide open on two plays that would have been TDs if not for obvious underthrows by Willy.  No need to know the play call.

I'd call it wide open (like really painfully wide open) on one play (the one in the endzone) and basically open on the second play (he had basically a full body on his cover)

The endzone play Romby didn't have much of a chance because the underthrow left him out of position and standing still on the jump ball (whereas his defender was jumping from a running start and in the better position) - throwing 5-15 yards further would have been a td - it was a big window where the only bad option was the underthrow.

The second play was a much tighter window - basically Willy needed to hit a 3-5 yard window on a receiver in stride - but Romby was definitely open for an easy TD on an accurately thrown ball.
