  1. I'd still like to see us re-sign Jake Thomas or pick up Waud or Gill. DL need rotation, and you need some Canadian depth.
  2. I don't have inside info, but I'm sure they would have put an offer in front of Bond, Heath, Normand, Thomas and Westerman. Clearly not enough to get it done, but I don't believe they would have said "off you go" without some kind of offer. They may have said "we don't see you in our future" to Denmark, JFG, Hurl, and Knox, although they may have made a specialty team offer to Hurl with a significant pay cut.
  3. I find it interesting. Here we are several hours after the start, and none of the Bomber free agents have signed elsewhere as yet. Yes there are rumours, and yes some likely will, but I suspect that the money isn't much greater than what they may have been offered here. Either that or they are trying to get the Bombers to match what they are being offered because perhaps it's not so bad here.
  4. He has the potential to be the top Canadian receiver we've had in a while, but I wouldn't say it will be easy. Lots of hard work ahead. I'm not surprised at the salary rumour. The majority of the dollars go to the QB's and then the starting Canadians. It's all about supply and demand.
  5. The Laurent contract certainly sets a high bar that other NI d-line players will measure themselves against. Against that, it does take a lot of cap space off of the table.
  6. It must be fascinating to be a GM or Head Coach today. You'll have agents and players on speed dial, but so do all of the other gms and coaches. Your trying to talk to your priority list, but you may have trouble getting through. Must be an exciting day to be in a big chair.
  7. I suspect that if the Bombers don't re-sign Chris Normand, it will open the door for LaFrance.
  8. I agree. The other advantage is that is does give your #2 or #3 QB some snaps and playing time which is always good should they be required to step up at a later time, plus it gives your #1 a bit of a break.
  9. I really liked the concept. You go "JUMBO" for the 3rd down play and the defence does the same, then you go no huddle, and catch them with their big guys on the field and you stretch the field either by going option or going deep. If the defence doesn't beef up, it makes your 3rd down play a higher percentage play. If they do, you may be able to catch them ill prepared on the following play. You are correct though, that the execution wasn't as successful as we would have hoped. I still like the concept though.
  10. I hope we can find someone who can run the short yardage unit as well as the Fever did.
  11. I'm quite surprised by the Bowman pick up. He's always had the ability to get the rock to the house, so I'm excited to watch him do it many times this year.
  12. I don't see it. I'd rather look at LaFrance or r draft Alex Taylor out of Western to give Harris a younger backup
  13. Hughes --> Cats --> Riders Willis --> Redblacks --> Lions I thought the full moon was a couple of days ago. Must be some lunacy hanging around!
  14. When I first saw the news, it didn't include what went the other way. When I heard it was a swap of 4th rounders plus a future 4th round pick, I thought that was really cheap for a guy who has dominated at his position. Even given his age, he showed this year that he can still play. I wonder if the Stamps asked him to retire and he declined? Seems odd for a guy of his stature.
  15. https://www.tsn.ca/report-stampeders-trade-all-star-de-hughes-to-ticats-1.986757 Charleston Hughes traded to TiCats. Wow.
  16. IMHO, Vince McMahon's biggest problem going forward is making the jump from "sports entertainment" to competitive sports. Rightly or wrongly, he is the king of fake sports. Yes, it's a show, some may find entertaining, but I'm not sure that it's a brand that is compatible with competitive sports. Trying to change the impression of a brand is a tough marketing job. I don't believe that national sponsors are lining up in droves to have their brand associated with "fake sports", even if this league is real. Secondly, the NFL, even with all of it's flaws and problems, is the big dog. I'm not convinced that there is much market in the US for second tier football. The professional sports market is saturated with NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and a growing MLS. After that, there is the college sports phenom. And yes, I know that there is minor league baseball, arena football, AHL hockey and the like, but none of them get national attention. They have some local interest in their own smaller markets, and survive on ticket sales, or support for being a farm team to a big league club. They offer nothing on the national scale that McMahon is looking for. All the hoopla in the world won't create a long term national audience for the XFL.
  17. True, there are many CFLer's including Milt that should have but didn't get a decent shot at the NFL. I don't fault anyone for chasing their dream. I just think that his chances there are slim, and I don't think his tactics will be successful. IMHO, he'd be better off playing the year for the Argos and then taking his shot.
  18. I think Wilder is a good player but.... 1. He went undrafted coming out of college. He has a pedigree name, and went to a big school (Florida State) so many teams would have looked and passed. 2. He previously had 2 NFL shots Cincinnati in 2014-2015 and Buffalo in 2016. They evaluated him and neither kept him around. 3. I have to believe that his NFL interest is still very limited at this point. I don't think that a good half season in the CFL would make NFL scouts go crazy for him. I'm sure they are prepared to "bring him to camp and lets have a look", but he won't be a top priority for them. 4. Teams in both leagues shy away from "holdout" players. Some teams more than others, but any way you look at it, it will diminish his market. Having said all that, I'm old. I played amateur football in the '70's, but never pro. I stopped playing when I was in university because I decided to concentrate on academics, so I can appreciate a man needing to do what he needs to do to support his family. I've often looked back and wondered if I should have played longer. If anyone can arrange it, I'd I'd gladly pay 50K to have his talent for a year so that I could play. If you're only doing it for the money and not for the love of the game, I'm not sure that you will have much of a career.
  19. I believe that Lapo can and will design some plays which suit his abilities well.
  20. I’m please with this. Having a vet backup is very reassuring. I hope we only see him when blowing out opponents, but history would say otherwise.
  21. I think that the Bombers should at least consider Durant if the price is right. That kind of experience factor is hard to come by.
  22. The only rule changes that I would suggest are 1. adding of a second challenge if the coach wins the first one. It seems strange that a coach may have to burn his challenge to correct a officials error, but then doesn't have that opportunity later. I would off-set this with a 10 yard penalty for an unsuccessful challenge to help prevent the "fishing" flags. 2. Increase the mandatory plays off for injury delays. 1st time a player goes down (requiring assistance leaving the field) he is out for 3 plays (same as it is now) 2nd time the same player goes down, he's out for 10 plays. 3rd time, he's done for the day. I believe that this will make it tougher for coaches to implement the fake kneel to slow down the game, while still allowing players needing medical assistance to get some help.
  23. Kudo's to the league for getting this out earlier than we are used to. Moving the Argo's from Skydome to BMO was one of the pieces that helped this out.
  24. I think you see that same drop from August to October for the fair weather fans.
