  1. I don't necessarily disagree but what exactly makes you say this? It's not as if they could have called up Pasquale now since he's out for the season and they only played Hutchinson when the season was already lost.
  2. I'm happy with the way he has played and even if the games were meaningless, he's still proven a few very important aspects of goaltending that we haven't seen from our starter. He controls his rebounds well and he's played very square to the shooter and hasn't been caught of of position. Even in Pavelec's best games, he would still show these signs of weakness. To those who say we can't go into next season without a proven starting goalie, I understand the concern. I'm not anointing Hutchinson anything yet but he's right at the age where things start to come together for goalies and he's been very good in the AHL for a few years now. Most importantly, there is legitimately no statical way we can do worse than Pavelec and despite his wealth of experience, he has never proven he can be an even adequate starting goalie. Sample size is small but he passes the eye test.
  3. It's not a novel idea that teams with a three goal lead would get outshot in the 3rd period.
  4. Enstrom is actually a really, really good defenceman. I know people like to hate on people they perceive as "overpayed" but he is a legit first pairing defender regardless of his size.
  5. And before we start talking about backup goalies playing easier competition, the collection of teams Montoya has played are: Chicago x3 Colorado x3 St Louis x2 Pittsburgh San Jose Montreal Tampa Bay He ain't getting sheltered minutes.
  6. Pavelec is really bad. The Jets are not the worst defensive team in the league yet Pavelec has consistently had the worst starting goaltender numbers (save for Dubnyk when he was around) in the league and it's not really close. Montoya isn't even a good goalie and his save percentage is 18% higher and his goals against average is better by 0.72 (!). Let's keep in mind, they play on the same team.
  7. I wouldnt say he has zero offensive ability. He has 10% terrible puck luck and 90% zero finish. But he's a good guy to work hard, hustle, get into the corners and get the puck out, hopefully to someone else. I wish I could agree with anything you said here. His "terrible puck luck" has pretty much everything to do with the fact that he has no ability whatsoever. Horrible shot, stone hands and no offensive instincts to speak of. He's an alright PK'er and decent defensively but I am beyond tired of people assuming that 4th liners are "good defensively" because they are bad offensively. I mean, they have to be good at something, right? In James Wright's case, I'm not asking for much offense from a 4th line defensive specialist in the mould of old school Manny Malholtra. James Wright is legitimately just a roster spot.
  8. I forgot about Okposo. I would take him. Thing is, a trade of Kane for Okposo + Strome would get the Jets laughed out of the room.
  9. The reason I would trade Kane isn't because he doesn't give it all every night. I fully appreciate his effort and it's the reason I respect him as a hockey player. I can also appreciate his "penalties of passion" because while stupid, at least he's making an effort. I'd rather he not go ballistic on the refs every time, but that's a miinor issue. The problem I have is that he's really not a very good hockey player. Granted, he has all the talent in the world and I would miss his speed and aggression. I would NOT miss the pattern of speeding into the offensive zone going one-on-one, firing a shot that misses the net and repeating the process over and over and over. Yes, his linemates have sucked pretty much his entire Winnipeg career. I would be happy to give him and Scheifele an extended look together. It's just that I have been given absolutley no reason to believe that he will ever be an effective hockey player. He just doesn't make anyone around him better in any capacity. Still, if we're going to trade him it sure as hell better not be to the Islanders. Save for Tavares there is nothing on their roster or farm system I want. We better keep the hell away from Hamonic. They don't even have a pick this year.
  10. Crawford, Osgood and Fluery may not be hall-of-famers, but they all generally had at least league average save percentages. The fact is, save percentage doesn't change no matter who the team is in front of you. A bad team allows more quality scoring chances, but they also allow more shots in general so it balances out. Save percentage is as close a measure to how good a goalie actually is as anything that exists. Pavelec has been WELL below average his entire career and that's not a coincidence at this point. Put a goalie like Fluery on this team (who I also don't think is more than an average goalie) and the Jets win at least five more games. Does that make the difference? Perhaps, perhaps not. What changes is that you would have a goalie that you could have some degree of confidence in that won't screw up and overplay every freaking shot.
  11. People still think Pavelec is a good goalie? Good lord.
  12. I gotta hand it to you, bud. You're persistent.
  13. This is a bad trade but Matthias and Markstrom aren't "nobodies". Considering the contract, it was as good a deal they could possibly get. The real mistake was trading Schneider but hindsight is 20-20.
  14. Add QB Jarrett Lee that's 2 young QBs coming in the BC camp. Joey Elliott's time maybe up in BC. John Beck is not young. He was drafted at 26 and is now 33. Also, he sucks.
  15. First of all, he is a fullback/H-back. Second of all, since when does one decent rookie season and one season completely ravaged by injury leading him to go unprotected in an expansion draft make him one of the best NI "receivers" in the league? This just seems to me like a situation where you've heard of his name and he's not on the bombers so he must be great. Even at positions that he doesn't play.
  16. That's fine, but it doesn't mean he'd be even a competent player at any other DB position. Especially when it's completely unnecessary with the extra NI receiver.
  17. There is less than a 0% chance of that.
  18. I hear Jason Clermont may also be available...
  19. Stala is not a good player anymore. He's had significant injury issues and at 35, he's only getting worse. To say that he would be a leader is laughable considering he's one of the biggest clowns this league has ever seen. To stunt any growth of our young NI recievers to experiment with this guy would be laughable.
  20. I guess there was still value in Ahman Green when the Als signed him, too.
  21. I'm not saying O'Neill is some dominant centre but is there no room for the possibility that players can improve or play better with a change in scenery?
  22. LOL @ "he easily outplayed Etienne and even Poblah" As if Etienne was outplayed in any capacity by Poblah.
  23. I'm not super concerned about our NI depth at receiver either. I think the thing that irks people is that he was one of the few young bright spots on this team last year and to think he was likely left unprotected over the likes of people like Fitzgerald and Sherman and even Poblah is a bit unnerving had all else been equal. Fortunately, all else wasn't equal and we end up keeping guys who will more than likely not be major contributors, will at least be on the squad next year which Kohlert likely wouldn't have been either way.
