  1. Calgary has so much depth that they'll absorb the hit & keep on going. They lost Glenn & still have Tate & BLM. John Hufnagel said he's going to be excited to start developing a young third string qb for the future whoever that is once training camp arrives now that a spot is open on the roster.

They lost OL J'Michael Deane & Huff said after the draft at a presser that he'd never start in Calgary on a full time basis. Huff also said that he knew he'd lose a safety yet he didn't know which one as he has Adam Berger, Keenan McDougall & Jeff Hecht waiting in the wings. He said losing a safety allowed him to protect other Canadian players at positions not so deep.

Huff sounded pretty relaxed & calm. He even joked around with the media. While  he was doing the presser he told the Calgary media that the scrum interrupted a coaching interview he was having & when he is done with them he was going back to finish it. When asked how the coaching interview process was going he said, "Fine, thanks". And to the reporter who asked the question, "How come you never showed up?" Smiles & laughter all around.

Looked like just another day at the office for the Stamps President of Football Operations & HC. Wow, the guy seeemed totally relaxed even after losing 3 starters including a qb. Not a care in the world.  Having depth at nearly every  position will do that for him.

"I'm not real pleased about the day," said Hufnagel, who guided the Calgary Stampeders to a CFL-best record of 14-4 as coach and general manager this past season.

Not sure he was as happy as you may think Iso. I'm sure he realizes the "insurance policy" he had in Glenn and now that won't be there ...

  2. Just thought the other day ...

    - Yes we were sucking and lost 15 games in the regular season.

    - Yes we don't have the depth or talent we should have.

    - And ... yes we had some terrible QB play at times ... BUT ...

How much was our offence, our team in effect, handcuffed with that horrible scheme instituted in 2012? Max Hall showed some spurts with a revamped and closer to CFL scheme (even though it was impossible to change everything during the season) and no I'm not saying he should be the starter, but still, I think it's a legit question. How bad did Crowton's playbook screw our team. Were we truely as bad as our record? Lousy coaching and a stand pat GM played a big part too obviously. I still ask though, are/were we as untalented as our record suggested? It will be interesting to see how some of these guys respond to a real CFL playbook from day one. It will also be interesting to see who we keep to implement that.

  3.

We're in very good hands. It was evident when he took over in August he had a VERY good grasp on things, and it's more evident now.

I'd give it a few more moves before you say he's got a very good grasp on things.  Not saying he doesn't, but let's see how things shake out a bit, eh?  He is saying all the right things.

I'd say we'll know by July or August 2014 if he's got a pretty good grasp on things actually, but I like him and what he's doing so far.
