I think you are looking at this entirely too much as a left vs. right issue. That's why I bring up the populism. Populism transcends left or right. It's founded in people's emotions and feelings. Trump told a lot of people things would be great with his brand of populism. Turns out he's pissing people off. But you get a guy saying "my brand of populism is good for you" it can turn people on. Now the catch is that the media will never give a guy like Bernie a fair shake cause they're all deep pockets people who don't want to pay taxes, so a "moderate" is going to be the guy they pump. You can not discount the impact that media has on forming people's early opinions. However once you get through the bullshit of the campaigns to even be the nominee (which in my opinion do much more harm than good) you'd just have one guy touting his ideas to the public. Honestly I think Bernie is the pefect kind of crazy old man to cut through Trumps bullshit. I don't see Biden as that guy. Bernie wasn't ever my favourite choice, but I think he was the right choice given how everything else played out and he is much needed by the United States right now. Biden is the status quo and will just lead to further republican shenanigans going forward.
  2. likely never will again. Pretty big bridge he's gonna burn in as small a league as the CFL.

Because they elected a right wing populist last time, and honestly given how shitty that worked out I think a left wing populist certainly would have had wide ranging appeal across all sorts of people. Honestly I know you think this moderate **** is where it's at, but there is no moderate in the United States, which is why populism is becoming more what people are looking for. Biden inspires no one. He will win because Trump is a tremendous **** up pissing everyone off, but he's a terrible candidate at this time. 4 years ago maybe he'd be better but he's losing his mind and same old same old isn't going to appeal to anyone other than the establishment.

spoken by the most misinformed here. It is OK to question what you are told, but if it's not backed up with sound logic you're not any more informed, just being a contrarian.

Well here is my question... if the government is going to pay for a student to be hired, what's to stop a company such as mine from firing me and hiring a student to do the job?

If Trump somehow wins the election then it's probably the last even half assed legitimate election the states have. Guy is acting like a dictator already and no one is willing to stop him.

If there was any justice in this world that whole administration would be on trial for this ****. Instead Biden will get elected and urge the country to heal and not dredge up the past enabling the shitty behaviour to continue. When did people stop holding politicians to a higher standard?

It always winds up at the top. There is plenty of wealth in the world to cover the cost of things going on right now. Problem is that it's being horded by greedy misers who don't want to share. They got more money than they or their kids or their kids kids could ever spend yet they'd trade it all for a little more.

Honestly I don't even believe that this is about money to Trump. I can remember reading an article a while back about this drug in combination with something else showing positive results as a treatment for covid. I suspect all that is happening here is that Trump saw similar in his news binges and just latched onto "cure found, I can be the hero and everyone will love me"

Alright that's great, but no one has blobs of hand sanitizer on their hands. You rub it in and the alcohol in it evaporates very quickly. Also if you're sticking your hands in the flames of a bbq you're doing it wrong anyway. But hey cool video. Alcohol burns, who knew!
  11. Oh man I had never thought of that! I got a new excuse for everything now.
  12. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
He desperately wants a magic elixir to cure this so he can look like a hero. If he touts this drug when all the experts say it's not proven yet and more testing confirms that it can be a treatment then it further feeds his ego and he can say "See I know more than these eggheads". Trump is the least complex person going. It's dead simple to peg his motivations because the only thing that motivates him is his own ego, greed and need to be validated by others. Kiss his ass shamelessly and he'll love you. Disagree with him or even question him and you are the worst person in the world.

Well why would they give it to american citizens in need of it when they can get in some good old fashioned profiteering?
  14. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
So one canadian link and a bunch if irrelevant to canada american ones? And also, in the 9 year old article about canada it says it's elective surgeries being rescheduled to deal with it. You can see how that's not an actual overwhelming right? Nonessential stuff being pushed back to handle serious stuff is normal when there is a peak, which us how this is intended to be. An actual overwhelming, not an it's been a busy month at work overwhelming means that people who need critical care can't get critical care.

For the millionth time, because this is a new virus that spreads ******* fast! The flu has been around forever and doesn't overload the health care system. That's what we are trying to accomplish here, save lives by not having to choose who lives and who dies because we don't have enough resources to handle everyone getting sick at once.

    DO NOT QUESTION YOUR EMPEROR!!!
  17. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
I suspect what we will see is a gradual loosening of restrictions. The thing will continue to spread, but hopefully slowly enough to manage.
  18. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
Flattened because we're all for the most part taking extraordinary measures to keep it that way. The issue is always going to be that when things open up again it will spike. This is a very contagious virus. It's not necessarily the most deadly, but it spreads so easily you can overwhelm the system pretty easily.
  19. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
Yes and the limitations of it are well documented. That doesn't mean there is another side to any arguments.
  20. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
No, there are no both sides. This is a science argument and science doesn't pick sides. The effectiveness of the flu shot is what it is. Vaccines are for herd immunity and protecting the weakest among us.
  21. Ritchie Hall adapted. That's the big difference. Yes he got a talent upgrade, but he also made some changes. Hall was never a guy afraid of adjusting, he just really did get a bit passive at times, but was capable of adjusting. Lapo never changed.
  22. the more time he gets with a qb the lower their numbers get. How many times to I have to explain these things to you people? You watch, Ottawa is going to be a team that barely loses most of their games cause that's the Lapo way. He's not a new entity in the CFL, He's been doing his thing since 2002. We've seen it time and time again.
  23. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
i don't know where, but they are doing it in an empty building. Not sure how the get around the numbers of the staff, but I guess there's a way.
  24. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
well i gave you an example of a tax cut not keeping businesses around, you got any examples handy of businesses leaving specifically because of their tax burden? We've been trying trickle down economics for a while now and all it's gotten is a widening gap between the 1% and the rest of the population and an ever shrinking middle class. So go on, tell me how we have to bow town and kiss the feet of corporations.
  25. 17to85 replied to JCon's topic in General Discussion
The tax rate isn't a big driver of whether a business is located somewhere or isn't. So your choice is flat out incorrect.
