7am WBB FC Announcement -- Buck Pierce New RBs Coach
kelownabomberfan replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Clearly this is an entry level position to learn what goes into coaching on the offense. You have to start somewhere. I know some people would like to see Buck walk into an OC job but that would be just setting him up to fail. Baby steps. -
Bombers sign QB Robert Marve (unannounced)

one less ACL to worry about tearing. Now we just need a QB with no brain and we don't have to worry about concussions. -

7am WBB FC Announcement -- Buck Pierce New RBs Coach
kelownabomberfan replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Good for the team and good for Buck. You can never go wrong hiring good quality people and setting them up in a position to win. Here's to what I hope is a long and successful career coaching the Blue Bombers for Buck. It would break my heart to see him spend five years apprenticing here and then watch him don the snot and white some day because he got an offer of a promotion we refused to match, just like seeing Khari in snot and white made me vomit every time I saw it. -
Dear Mike - please do not stop posting Bomber updates on Twitter. Without you I'd have to do real research and I hate football. Sincerely Paul Wiecek

REDBLACKS sign Justin Palardy
kelownabomberfan replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You mean third chance. Hammy cut him before we signed him. Except he was a punter in Hamilton. Yeah and in our first game of 2010 Labbe blocked a Palardy punt right at the end of the half and got us a TD. -
Kevin Glenn has requested a trade
kelownabomberfan replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No teams? Are you sure? @News1130Sports: #BCLions gm Wally Buono admits he does not have a solid CFL back-up qb - that's why he has held talks with Ottawa about Kevin Glenn. I would hope out of respect for Glenn that Desjardins would at least talk to Glenn & see where he wants to go & work on a trade to get him there instead of just dealing him away to any team. Yeah so far they've respected Kevin Glenn completely and never lied to him once. -

I want to win, and for that sacrifice, I'm willing to accept Glenn back in blue and gold. All he did in Calgary was win, except of course when it mattered. -
Buck Pierce set to announce retirement today
kelownabomberfan replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yes he was a sideline reporter for CBC. http://www.canada.com/mobile/iphone/story.html?id=2337809c-bac4-4806-be8d-4eb9767c65b5&k=34864 Maybe to start but I know he was the colour guy at some point with Army - I remember listening to Khari when he was on the phone with Mike Richards when Richards was doing his Armitage parody and couldn't stop laughing. Hey I found it! https://soundcloud.com/tags/steve%20armitage http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFL_on_CBC -

Buck Pierce set to announce retirement today
kelownabomberfan replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Wasn't he a CBC CFL sideline reporter before he went into coaching? For awhile. But he wasn't with a team in any capacity anywhere. He wasn't a sideline reporter, he was the colour guy in the booth, paired with the indomitable Steve Armitage who was doing the play by play. TSN took over all rights to broadcasts so Khari was out of a job which was fine as it was high time for him to be sharing his talents as a coach in the CFL. -

Buck Pierce set to announce retirement today

listening to Buck right now on TSN 1290.... Buck felt that he had opportunities elsewhere come up - so it was time to move on. Is he going to be coaching? There have been inquiries across the league. Is it with Winnipeg? He won't say. He's not committed to anything right now. -

Just out of curiosity ... why? Doesn't strike me as cerebral enough to coach. You are right, there are so many people smarter than Buck that have coached in the CFL... -

LOL from Doug Brown: Congrats to @pierceQB11 on a great career & ur retirement! My favorite pic of the time we spent together: #Hugs pic.twitter.com/QwteJzqZmf -
I agree that this is a legitimate issue and if nothing else comes of this case, the publicity it attracts should help to shed a light on the plight of the mentally ill in this country. I've been reading some articles too about how immigrants with mental illnesses have an especially hard time getting help as they don't trust their systems back home and so therefore don't trust ours either. Li was definitely in that category, as he was known to shun "western" medicine. It would be interesting if someone would put a dollar figure on just how much more money should be spent in this area. I know no matter what sector of the government you ask, the answer is always "more", be it teachers, cops, ambulance drivers, doctors or janitors. Whatever we spend, it's never enough. But this does seem to be an area that is chronically underfunded, and very much misunderstood.

Even though 2010 was a fail of a year and Buck was injured for a lot of it, I still remember the commanding presence he brought onto the field in his first game in Blue and Gold. When he took to the field with the offense for the first time, I was legitimately excited to see what he was going to do, and I remembered that sensation being the first time in a long time that I was excited about our offense. It's too bad he got so beat up, and by last season was a shadow of his former self. Though he did go out with a great last game last year against Edmonton, he got to play like the Buck of old for that last game with three passing TD's and one rushing TD and it was good to see. -

They tried to do a Regina combine but too many farmers showed up thinking it was a trade show. -

As much as I'm not a fan of Snidely Brown, I also don't think Buck's delivery is very good for radio. His quasi-stutter is kind of distracting. He'd be wasted in broadcasting, much rather see him bring that gung-ho attitude to the dressing room in a coaching capacity. I think he and O'Shea would get along really well. -

Great post. I know I've been to enough socials where the groom just sits there with a few of his buddies and ignores everyone else, so good on Buck for being a good host. I bet the catering was good too, if Danny and Buck's provided the eats. I always make a point of going to Buck's restaurant when I get into town, especially since it's only five minutes from the airport. Hope to see him on the sidelines in Blue and Gold this year (coaching attire). -

Ya, forgot about that ... maybe he can play in prison like Burt Reynolds and Adam Sandler LOL except that the prison team wouldn't even want him...he's not good enough. -

I get that there is a bias towards getting old Bombers to coach here (I'm guilty of it too) and we should always think with our brains and not our hearts but in this case I would say hiring him would be a hearts and brains decision, and a good one at that. Buck's not just a great guy, he's a guy that has management/coaching written all over him. Kind of like Steve Yzerman. I know the Bombers really liked him and didn't really want to trade him, and I think they just wanted to get him on a team that had a shot at a cup while he was still playing. Buck still lives in Winnipeg right? I saw him in some dental ad for Manitoba dentists a few days ago. I would think that this decision to retire is in conjunction with some sort of coaching position with Winnipeg. -

Do you have any ballpark figures for a salary for #2? It depends if your number 2 is evil or not. If so, then - $1 BILLION dollars....
