When the Olympics happen in Feb, usually the Jets are still in the running for the playoffs. Any one of Schiefs/Ehlers/Laine goes down, that hurts our playoff chances pretty big. I know we probably wouldn't make it even with all of them healthy, but them getting hurt in the Olympics would be catastrophic. If the Olympics were in April, not so much. -

I'd say they've over-extended the North American market. Florida, Phoenix, Carolina - time to contract. -

That was because in the 1980's the Russians were still the evil scumbag communists, not the benevolent world-loving friendly types they are now. But seriously, back in those days Russkies weren't allowed in the NHL, so we only got to play them in the World Cup (the Olympics was a joke because we had to send amateurs instead of our best, while Russia always got to send their best). The World Cup was a novelty. Now we get to see Russians play everyday in the NHL, not so much of a big deal. -

until one or all of them got hurt like Tavares and ruined a potential playoff run. -

If Butcher can start stepping up and getting sacks by the boat-load this would a PR dream. -
Bombers: Change In Operations Spending
kelownabomberfan replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ha that's a good read. Glad to hear that Winnipeg is putting "professional" back in "professional football team". I still remember the Cal Murphy days and hearing a story about how Cal was charging players $.25 per cup for Gatorade. I don't know if this was an urban legend but those days are over, and thank goodness for that. I don't think Cal would adjust well to the way players are treated nowadays. But anyway, kudos to Wade and the gang for changing the attitudes and the operating methods. Winning football games and building a dynasty isn't just about finding good players, it's about building an all-around professional winning methodology. -

Bomber Running Backs Coach Quits

both terms make me hungry for some reason -
Connor and Roslo called up together. Who sits? I don't see anyone being sent down? Is there room on the roster? Who sits? Thorbs? Tanev? Petan? Is someone hurt?

2005 Blue Bomber defence - still one of the worst in league history as there was no Defensive co-ordinator calling in any plays, just the White Zombie staring off into space. Though it still was a better D than we had under Etch. -

Call in Rod Rust or Dave Ritchie on an emergency basis. And make sure you have a defibrillator on stand-by. Oh wait, they would have already had one for Wylie. Never mind. -

yup - lot of what if's this year that make the difference, what if we had better goal-tending, what if Bryan Little hadn't gotten hurt in the first game of the season, what if Trouba hadn't held out and had played all year, what if Calgary hadn't suddenly gotten good for some reason, what if we had signed at least one free agent goalie/defenseman so we didn't have to play guys like Postma, Melch and Nogier (though we've been winning with Nogier and Melch, just like we won with Melch in the line-up last year too, what's the nature of that David Suzuki?), what if we hadn't had that horrible schedule this year....lots to ponder. Next year it will be interesting to see who makes the line-up. I think it's time to say good-bye to Thorbs, but I also don't see the point of bringing up a new young kid to play 5 minutes a night or whatever the 4th line is getting. Petan is kind of wasted on the 4th line too. Will he move up? Or will he be moved out?
