  1. Booch, I think 3 things work against that premise. One is salary. If a player was deep on an NFL roster & sent to the Bombers to play then who would pay that player's salary? The NFL team or a CFL team? Two, would be injuries. There would be a risk having a deep rostered player from say the Jaguars playing in the CFL. Who would be responsible for insurance? Three, I think the different Canadian game actually hurts a partnership like that. I don't think the NFL wants to spend money on developing qbs when they play the Canadian game up here. It doesn't help a young NFL qb when he has to learn a new game for just a season. Just look at Chris Streveler & his struggles at times getting used to the different sized field, motion & 12 defenders. The NFL would want to change the rules to 4 down football in order to make things easier developmentally.
  2. I know you said you were unconvinced but Ryan Dinwiddie coached under Hufnagel & then Dickenson. If Devonne Claybrooks is supposedly ready to be a HC then I think Dinwiddie is ready to be an OC.
  3. Did you see how bad the qbs played in Montreal? If losing LaPo means hiring KJ then we'd be in trouble.
  4. Yes. It is similar to purchasing grain. You agree to buy a certain number of barrels at a price on a certain date.
  5. This is for Zontar as the 2018 Discussion Thread has been closed. Inerested in reading your comments. I think Orlando Steinhauerwas promoted by the Ti Cats to HC because I think the Argos were about to make him their HC. It was either promote him or lose him. Very similar situation to the Stamps when John Hufnagel suddenly stepped aside & promoted Dave Dickenson to HC. They were going to lose Dickenson & Hufnagel knew this so he stepped aside even though he wanted to coach one more season. BTW, I think Steinhauer may be the most ready CFL assistant to become a HC. I think he's been ready for years. He had success in the CFL as Cats DC & then in the NCAA. he knows the organization, city & players on the Ti cats so I think it'll be a great fit. I think he's more ready than Claybrooks who has benefitted from his time with the Stamps as D Line Coach & DC. But he's always had the talent around him as a Stamps assistant. Plus, the only team he's ever coached is Calgary. He never coached in another organization. Can he turn around a losing team without Dickenson or Hufnagel there with him calling the shots? He has done well as the Stamps DC but he'll have to be able to do a lot more than that to make a losing team a winner.
  6. I can tell you from living in Calgary that the Stamps were devastated they lost both years. I think even more in 2017. They definitely saw it as failure.
  7. Okay, cool. It made a difference... today.
  8. I actually think the opposite. If the AAFL is a success then it makes it harder for the XFL to grab a piece of the limited football market as all of the cities in both leagues are in the Sun Belt. I'm hoping both leagues eat each other up.
  9. I don't claim to be an expert on the financials of the oil industry but I believe that these are futures contracts. Also, if you don't believe the numbers then google then...
  10. I don't think Nichols is mediocre. He was dealing with a knee injury that probably bothered him all season. Let's see how he does when he comes back healthy next training camp.
  11. LaPo's system is designed for the qb to not be the stR. Dink & dunk. Controlled short to medium passes. Ball possession offense.
  12. the price of a barrel of WCS is up $10 to $32 a barrel. So, it's had the desired effect. She really had no choice. meanwhile, our useless PM & his government just sit on their hands Anyone who runs for the Libs in the next federal election in SK & AB will get wiped out.
  13. We'll see how the AAFL does it's 1st year.
  14. Nichols didn't lose the game either. I also think Harris has been in the league long enough to know veteran CFL qbs make more money than starting running backs. Canadian or American.
  15. I think it's less than 50/50 the XFL gets off the ground.
  16. That's what the AAFL wants. To be bought by the NFL.
  17. Rachel Notley is expected to announce this evening that there will be a government mandated oil production output cut for Alberta oil. Presently, because there aren't enough pipelines to move the product, there is a surplus of 35 million barrels in storage. The price differential between Western Canadian Select (WCS) & West Texas Crude (WTC) is over $40.00. There is a lot of discussion how to get this price differential down & it seems that this is the route to go. From the oil industry to politicians. Although some in the oil industry oppose this & feel the market should set the price & not the provincial government. https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/will-alberta-cut-oil-production-notley-to-make-announcement-today-1.4201372
  18. Especially with jim Popp. If he can gas a friend in Trestman & the way it happened then LaPo days will be numbered the day he is hired.
  19. I don't know if leaving for the Argos is a great career move. But if he wants to go & is hired I wish LaPo well.
  20. Yeah, I don't get all the angst from fans that we'll lose him. He's under contract for another year.
  21. True. Just mentioning what is being said.
  22. His twitter account is always entertaining.
  23. From talking to some Rider fans that I know who live in Regina, they told me it's pretty common knowledge that Jones likes his alcohol & spends time in different watering holes in that City.
  24. When I coached football in Calgary back in the 90's to early 2000's, the Stamps used to give season tickets to every pee wee, bantam & high school team in the City. Coaches could give these tickets away anyway they liked. So, if a kid had a great game or a couple of players practiced hard all week they got these tickets to see a game. All the teams sat together so there were a lot of football players at every game. And these kids remembered that because for some it was the first time they ever attended a Stamps game. Then in & around 2005 the ownership changed hands & the new Stamps owners didn't want to give away these seats anymore. They wanted to sell them to make a profit. Well, that was back in the days when the Stamps averaged 33,000 at each & every game. Even after attendance fell back to the 23-25,000 mark last season, the team still refuses to go back to the days when they supported community & high school football by giving kids the chance to see a game. The Stamps could very easily give tickets away to different community groups in the City. Yet they don't & have no interest in doing so. They have no idea that they may hook some kids on the Stamps & the CFL. But the Stamps like the league itself is just too damned short sighted to see that. Blind actually.
