  1. 2 weeks into the nothing burger of merger and I feel like things will start to settle back down now. Has XFL 3.0 folded yet? And now my watch begins.
  2. Sucks. His cap room might be useful to sign some one when the argos have to cut half of this off seasons FAs.
  3. The chance of a collapse like that is a lot higher if a guy has never seen a pro football athlete rush his kicks, or had to make game winning kicks in the pros. Expecting a rookie with no pro experience to come in and just do his job every snap in an 18 game regular season isnt realistic. Way too many variables and unknowns at play with a rookie to expect that.
  4. In that case i dont see a problem. Every CBA negotiation PA's talk about wanting a partnership and to have their stake scale with growth. In times like these the hair cut should be across the board as well. Im sure not all players would get that 20% back when fans came back, some would be cut etc. But 20% is not a big cut for a short term loss to prevent missing a whole other season of football and salaries. I also feel like in our stadium we could socially distance 10k people. Leaving would be a bit of an issue, but if you taper exits and have people guided through to different exits I think it could work OK. I know plenty of people who would pay a premium even to bein the 10k (my self included)
  5. One great point is will the front office and coaching staff face the 20% cut as well. If thats the case im 100% on board. If not its some BS.
  6. I feel like there are more vet kickers than open jobs rn. Yeah, but id always be leery of resting duties on an unproven guy. Maybe sergio castillo would be a better fit, I think he's a FA.
  7. I wonder if we would have interest in either maher or hajrullahu for a camp leg to push liegghio
  8. I read some thing to the extent of after a couple years 1 game will have the same value as the entire cfl tv contract.
  9. Thats been worked around in both minor league and un affiliated ball, and in some union industry. It could also be worked around by instead of having a hard number of world players, they would have more salary cap room for each world player on the roster and even more for starters. If you can start all americans but have half the cap space of a team with the req number of globals for instance, every team will scrounge for those players. Pretty impressive to be still going that strong. I always saw a considerable disconnect between people who played madden/live etc and people who supported and went to games. As much as Id enjoy a CFL game, especially at any where near a madden level of quality I dont think that impacts the league as much. I dont think it would bring on a ton of cash or bring in a ton of people. I believe i also heard recently that ncaa football was making a return.
  10. Edmontons isnt bad, but even when it was new it wasnt a great football venue imo. It gave them a huge capacity but the stands are soo far from the field. Maybe they could get away with a thorough over haul. To be honest the state of the league seems better than it was just over 10 years ago. Ottawa has a great stadium and following. Hamilton has a fantastic owner and stadium, the riders and us got new stadiums, MLSE finally owns the argos, montreal has finally turned it around and has private owners and the tv deal has grown considerably. For a league like the cfl to get that many new stadiums, and many really nice ones too, in a 10 year span is great.
  11. I think at worst the truth lies some where between hodge and henny penny. I dont think the CFL is on the verge of collapse out side of covid. It does need some improvements and growth especially amongst the youth of the nation. It cant carry a team or two each year financially. The biggest thing is getting new stadiums in alberta. That might be a situation where the league and the fed might need to kick in. I dont think a new stadium in southern BC does any thing. Maybe playing out side of the metro VC area is whats needed. From my time in bc, the interior is hard core lions country.
  12. I think even just the post covid need to get out n stretch our legs would bring in record numbers. And also give the league a good chance to brand in a bunch of younger fans. Each season gives the previous failed teams a chance to have a good run again. Having this big a gap would leave every teams fan base feeling like they have as good a shot as ever. Nothing is going to change TO into a good sports town. Its the niche band wagon jumping market of all markets.
  13. I think thats the easiest solution if the least likely. They cant change the field size much, so maybe just bigger endzones if possible. The ratio? the US teams have to field and start a certain amount of Global players. Including our NI's, germans, players from the mexican league etc. They dont have to take all our rules, they can pick the most entertaining set of rules between the two and what they have the best access to.
  14. Legit question here, is madden still any thing close to what it was in the 2000-2010 ish era? Monetizing gambling is some thing the biggest sports leagues in the world are struggling with. Its likely that when it finally does get figured out the system will trickle down eventually to the likes of the CFL. I dont see us being the ones to solve that puzzle. Not only was the attendance/ratings not good, it was continually worse. Their fan base showed no sustainability imo. 100%. We are the ones with an innovative game thats set the pace for the best football to watch not the nfl, xfl or any failed pro football league. And mostly, I do not see any one involved with the other league past or current willing to lose as much money as vince was.
  15. Yes but that was with MTL and Tor being carried by the league and basically dead in the water every year. Which is not the case now. Not to mention while attendance in game was going down, the tv deal was going up. And if the doors were opened this summer fully we would probably see the highest attendance average in my life time.
  16. Idk that comes off like hes been long convinced the CFL game was doomed and is fine with the death of the cfl. Comes off like he would rather be covering american football. Especially the part where he thinks its a foregone conclusion that the majority of canadians would rather watch NFL. I didnt see any of this talk of impending doom and gloom and unsustainability from him prior to covid. If im wrong, please some one post the article I dont by any means read all of his work. I dont think its sustainable to carry a team and their loses like TO and MTL. Its also not sustainable to have no in game revenue. But I dont think those are an issue going forward. It isnt going to be a multi year thing of no fans in the stands, and TO has deep pocket owners now and MTL is in a good space. Not great situations, they need some better venues but sustainable yes.
  17. Thats true. However, a lot of the talk has been based on speculation. Im very leery of claims from the CFL media especially of a merger.
  18. I wonder if the deal could possibly end up being the XFL season ends before the cfl season begins, and the XFL gets access to sign CFL players for their own season. Kind of like the old arena league stuff where guys would go down to the AFL then come back up part way through the cfl season. And for that ability the XFL would include a couple CFL games in its national US tv deal (LDC, grey cup, grey cup re match at the start of the year) As well as perhaps an interest free loan coming our way. Maybe, its more than just players. Maybe some front office types or even coaches would help in getting the XFL up and running. Maybe thats why the XFL season cancellations were pending the CFL discussions. Its a huge risk for the players and the teams, it was really hard on a lot of the guys who played a season of AFL and half a season of CFL back in the day.
  19. I see a lot of people using the excuse that the nfl is more entertaining than ever, but like tim said in that video its gotten better because they have adapted more of our style of play. A few of the rules im not too worried about. The 55 yard line, and the rouge on the missed fg for instance. If we went down to a 100 yard long field we would see a more engaging kicking game imo. Teams would try more long field goals and be in scoring range quicker. And the single point on the missed field goal wouldnt effect the returning of missed FGs, because its still a huge opportunity to score. But out side of that we have a lot of tremendous advantages that make our game much much more entertaining to watch. I dont like the XFL could if they wanted to. They dont have their own infrastructure. I dont think most places they play could be adapted to the CFL field with out considerable work, and the owners wont do that as they already see use for american football rules.
  20. This is what I had assumed. That vince co would have much better network connections than redbird. But he took a HUGE gamble on the xfl 2.0 tv deal and it wasnt on track to pan out imo. And his track record on risks out side of the wwe is not good. The cfl would not survive changing to 4 down football. Itd be like being lost a drift at sea and trading your hull for a mast. You go from listing aimlessly to sunk.
  21. Thats true, but the off season hype train for the riders from 3d and cfl.ca etc has been sickening. Stuff like this https://www.cfl.ca/2021/03/15/mmqb-way-early-positional-bests/
  22. Does redbird have connections at networks better then the bigmac? Idk but I dont feel like they would. I also really dont see them being willing to lose the kind of money he did in the xfl. They are not the type of company to lose money, and the XFL will not be in a position to make money for a very long time. Remember the NHL struggling soo hard to get tv deals in the states? Free broadcast rights to ESPN, and didnt they get dropped from that and have their games in the US on like outdoor network for a while in the us? I dont follow hockey and im not sure i have it right. But the US cares more about hockey than about canadian/3down football.
  23. Idk how any one can look at the riders and see any thing coming other than a step back. But it seems the same people who think the riders will win the west and have the best offense in the league think the argos will be good too.
  24. The XFL v2.0 got 0 dollars for its tv deal with ESPN and FOX. IDK how any one thinks they are gonna help get us significantly more TV dollars from the US networks than what we get already from TSN. https://blog.jipel.law.nyu.edu/2020/04/the-xfl-tv-rights-deal-are-the-terms-favorable/#:~:text=On May 6th%2C 2019,right to air their games.
  25. If he has a better career than casey printers ill honestly be shocked.
